The Chargers could be at the top of defensive tackle Vita Vea's list after he requested a trade from the Buccaneers.
Ted Nguyen of The Athletic shared the news after Vea requested a trade.
Nguyen added that Vea has a no-trade clause; however, he can choose to resign after this year.
The 31-year-old requested a trade from the Buccaneers after talks on a contract extension have stalled, his agent Collin Roberts told ESPN on Monday. Vea is entering the final year of his four-year, $71 million contract and is set to earn $17 million this season, but none of it is guaranteed.
Vea wants to enter the season with a new contract, and because the two sides haven't agreed on a deal, the Washington product wants to start fresh elsewhere. Last season with Tampa, Vea appeared in all 17 games and finished with 4.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hits and 34 total tackles.

Vita Vea's trade request should put the San Francisco 49ers on the phone with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
NFL Network reported that Vea asked to be moved after extension talks stalled. The two-time Pro Bowler is entering the final year of his contract with a $17 million base salary, giving San Francisco a rare chance to address one of its most uncertain position groups with a proven difference-maker.
The 49ers may also fit Vea's preferred destination. Football **** yst Ted Nguyen reported on X, citing a source, that Vea "wants to go to a California team or the Raiders." A return to the Bay Area would carry obvious appeal for Vea, who attended Milpitas High School before becoming the No. 12 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

PHOENIX (AP) — Video footage of two Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents tackling a man at the airport in Las Vegas drew public outrage and criticism from elected officials.
One video posted on social media showed a man yelling and crying on the ground in Terminal 3 at Harry Reid International Airport on Monday when a man and a masked woman, both in plainclothes, tried to control, handcuff and detain him. When the pair realized they were being filmed, they walked away, leaving the man with a handcuff attached to one arm.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police found no outstanding warrants for the man, removed his handcuffs and notified ICE.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE officers on Monday did not proceed with the arrest at the Las Vegas airport of Phu Nguyen, a 57-year-old citizen of Australia who overstayed his visa. ICE arrested him at his flight departing the Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security said.
"ICE is continuing to act with impunity — instilling fear in our communities and scaring tourists, which hurts our tourism economy," Democratic U.S. Senator for Nevada Jacky Rosen said in a statement. "Enough is enough. ICE must follow the same commonsense guardrails as other law enforcement agencies."

The New Orleans Saints spent the offseason building around soon-to-be second-year quarterback Tyler Shough. Now, it seems their work is beginning to earn national recognition, as The Athletic's Ted Nguyen recently included New Orleans among five offenses poised to break out heading into the 2026 season.
"The Saints have quietly put together a strong offense through the draft," Nguyen wrote. "They drafted both their young, talented tackles: left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. this year and right tackle Taliese Fuaga in 2024."
Shough is the most important piece of the Saints' offensive foundation, though. The 2025 second-round pick finished second in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting after helping New Orleans to win four of its final five games. Another year in Kellen Moore's offense should help Shough continue to develop, but improved protection might be even more important. The Saints finished 29th in pass-block win rate last season, while Shough ranked 41st among qualifying quarterbacks in pressure-to-sack rate.
Nguyen added: "With a season of development for Banks and Edwards playing inside of him, the offensive line should do a better job of keeping Shough clean, which is vital. If the Saints can protect Shough, he has a chance to produce like a tier 2 quarterback."
The Saints also signed David Edwards, whom Nguyen considered the best guard available in free agency, to strengthen their interior offensive line. Edwards will join Banks and Fuaga in a unit with the potential to improve considerably in both pass protection and run blocking. Into the skill positions, Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, was added to the Saints' receiving corps led by Chris Olave. Tyson possesses legitimate No. 1 receiver upside, although his health will be worth monitoring after a lingering hamstring injury limited his participation during organized team activities.

Today, the Seattle Reign announced that **** istant Coach Lee Nguyen has accepted the role First Team Manager and Technical Director with Dallas Trinity FC of the Gainbridge Super League and will be departing the club.

If the Carolina Panthers are going to improve on offense or not in 2026 is an open question. While they have a couple of promising new wide receivers, so much of that progress depends on quarterback Bryce Young and how big of a step forward he can take in his fourth season.
One thing they should be able to bank on is continued improvement from their defense, which went from historically awful in 2024 to middle-of-the-road in 2025. And now, they're getting a lot of buzz as a potential top-10 unit overall.
Although not everyone likes their big free-agent acquisitions up front, Ted Nguyen of The Athletic seems to believe the additions of both Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd will pay off. Nguyen has included Carolina on his list of NFL defenses that are poised to break out during the upcoming campaign:
Phillips will help to disrupt outside runs, while Lloyd’s ability to play all over the front, including the line of scrimmage, will allow [Ejiro] Evero to get creative with shifting or stemming his fronts before the snap. That will make it harder on offensive lines to execute their blocking schemes... Evero finally has the pieces he needs to run the system that he wants to. The Panthers have some depth issues, but this should be the year that Evero leads a top-10 defense.
Their run defense should be penciled in for significant progress thanks to Lloyd and Lee Hunter, their second-round pick from the spring. Plus, their coverage on the backend has improved by leaps and bounds—especially since bringing Mike Jackson into their cornerback room.

That's one reason The Athletic's Ted Nguyen recently identified Mannion as one of the league's most interesting new play callers entering the 2027 season. “I think Sean Mannion is going to be one of the most interesting new play callers to watch because he’s going to the Eagles team with a ton of talent. He’s going to ask Jalen Hurts to do things that he really hasn’t done in the past. I think he’s going to ask him to throw over the middle a little bit more, play under center more, and that’s going to be one of the most interesting storylines in the league — how he adapts to Mannion’s offense and what kind of offensive coordinator Mannion is going to be in his first year.”

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Police in Vietnam rescued more than 400 cats in a major bust of a cat meat crime ring last week in Ho Chi Minh City, and at least 40 of them have been reunited with their owners.
However, following the dayslong police operation, several of the cats died because of the harsh conditions they were found in, animal welfare groups said. They didn't elaborate or provide an exact number on the cats who didn't make it.
Since the operation, veterinarians and volunteers have flocked to care for the cats at a temporary rescue center set up at a facility run by the Ho Chi Minh City Criminal Police Division.
"People who lost their cats can come to the police station to identify their pets and help the police with the investigation," police official Nguyen The Bao told the state-owned Tuoi Tre newspaper.
This operation is "a sobering reminder of the enormous scale of Viet Nam's cat meat trade," according to Karanvir Kukreja, who leads a campaign against dog and cat meat consumption for the international nonprofit Humane World for Animals.
