After a couple of crazy games — one loss and one win — the Rockies will look to take their final game against the St. Louis Cardinals in this afternoon's rubber match. If they win, they will tie the season series 3-3.
The Rockies have played 19 rubber matches so far this season and are 6-13, the second-worst rubber match winning percentage (.316) behind the Boston Red Sox (5-14, .263). Seven of their rubber match losses have come by two or fewer runs, and they are 3-5 in home rubber matches (3-8 on the road). Wednesday's rubber match against the Orioles marked the first time the Rockies have won three-straight rubber matches since winning five-straight May 7-June 25, 2023.
Tanner Gordon (1-4, 5.18 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies. Gordon was on a roll in his last outing before being stymied by a one-hour and 38-minute rain delay. Gordon managed to toss five innings before the delay, only allowing three hits and one run with one walk and three strikeouts. But he only threw 60 pitches, so hopefully that means he'll be fresh this afternoon. He has faced the Cardinals twice (one start) and is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings.
Gordon will face Colorado Mesa product, and Boulder native, Kyle Leahy (10-4, 3.13 ERA). Leahy is in his fourth MLB season, but first where all of his appearances have been starts. He made 98 appearances from 2023-2025, but only one start — the Cardinals' final game against the Chicago Cubs last September where he pitched three perfect innings with a strikeout. In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Leahy pitched three innings and allowed one run (a solo homer) on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He has faced the Rockies six times in his career, and started against them this year on August 7th in St. Louis. He is 2-0 against them with a 4.05 ERA in 13.1 innings.
First Pitch: 1:10pm MT

CINCINNATI (AP) — Masyn Winn hit a home run and doubled twice and Kyle Leahy gave up three hits and struck out six in five innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Riley O'Brien pitched the ninth for his 32nd save. It was the 12th time the Reds have been shut out this season and the Cardinals' ninth shutout win.
It's the first time Winn had two doubles in a game since July 28, 2025 against the Marlins.
Cardinals left fielder Joshua Báez went 0 for 3 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly. He's now 0 for 17 with seven strikeouts since his three-homer day at Wrigley Field on Saturday.
Leahy (10-4) threw 90 pitches. It was his 10th straight start allowing two earned runs or fewer.

After a rocky start to the 2026 season, there was a time that Cincinnati Reds lefty Andrew Abbott settled into a rather great groove. That time, though, has sadly evaporated, and he's been nothing more than mediocre – at best – for a little bit now.
Over his last 9 starts dating back to June 26th, he's pitched to just a 4.66 ERA/4.41 FIP with an extremely discouraging 38/25 K/BB in 48.1 IP. He was shelled for 5 ER in his most recent outing (in just 4.1 IP), and the month of August has seen him allow 11 ER with a brutal 8/10 K/BB in just 16.0 IP (6.19 ERA).
The Reds will surely hope he can find a way to flip that script on Tuesday night against the St. Louis Cardinals, who boast the second lowest K% against southpaws among the 30 MLB clubs (just 18.3%).
Kyle Leahy gets the starting nod for the Birds, and first pitch is set for 6:40 PM ET.
Here's how both clubs will line up to begin things:

A strong previous week for two-start pitchers is followed up by a weak group for the current scoring period. A pair of Cardinals headline the list, but once we get past that point, the options mostly include subpar pitchers with favorable matchups.
On the hitting side, a five-game series at Great American Ball Park could provide fireworks.
Kyle Leahy, Cardinals, 39% (@ CIN, @ PHI): The Cardinals tend to save this column during down weeks, as their rotation ranks ninth in baseball in ERA despite lacking a member who is rostered in 50% of Yahoo leagues. After a slow start in his first season as a rotation member, Leahy has been the team's most consistent starter of late, having logged a 1.52 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 46:9 K:BB ratio in his past nine starts. Although he has been more effective at home (2.91 ERA) than on the road (3.96 ERA), he should have success in two road starts against the Phillies and Reds, who rank 16th and 29th respectively in OPS vs. righties.
Andre Pallante, Cardinals, 38% (@ CIN, @ PHI): Although Leahy has been the Cardinals most reliable starter this summer, Pallante is the rotation member who has been the most consistent throughout the season (3.46 ERA, 1.22 WHIP). The righty lacks the strikeout skills to be a high-end fantasy contributor but maintains a significant floor thanks to his elite groundball rate (55.6%). In a poor week for two-start pitchers, he can be started in any format.
Tyler Mahle, Braves, 30% (@ MIN, @ MIL): Mahle has been terrific across two starts as a member of the Braves, posting a 16:2 K:BB ratio, along with a 0.75 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. But we can't overlook the fact that his 18 outings with the Giants resulted in a 5.13 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. It's worth noting that the ERA estimators don't mind Mahle, ******* igning him marks in the range of 4.00 this season. The right-hander is set to tangle with two top 10 offenses in terms of OPS versus righties, but his success with Atlanta should still get him a look in 12-team leagues.
