DUBAI, Sept 7 (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates is building alternative routes for its energy exports and trade to ensure they are not "held hostage" by the ongoing war between the U.S. and Iran, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said on Monday.
The conflict has had a significant impact on Gulf Arab states, including the UAE, after Tehran fired missiles at the country and attacked its oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Our energy exports will not be held hostage, nor will our trade and economic activity," Gargash told the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE has been expanding port capacity along its eastern coast, as well as developing pipelines, railways and trade routes for alternative corridors, he said.
While acknowledging that relations with Iran could eventually recover, Gargash warned that rebuilding trust after the attacks could take decades.

Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) is one of Jim Cramer's favorite stocks in the sector. Over the course of this year, the CNBC TV host has praised the firm on multiple occasions. Among the reasons that he has been optimistic about Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) include the firm's cancer drug portfolio and its Triple A balance sheet. For instance, in his July 6th appearance on Mad Money, Cramer remarked that "P&Gs and the J&Js in your portfolio allow you to safely own the techs." With tech stocks struggling recent due to concerns about the data center buildout, it was unsurprising that Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) popped up on his radar once again on August 24th:
"I've been using that one stock JNJ to be able to [example] becuase it has a better balance sheet at this point than the US government, it doesn't need money, it's got very good science. It's not hostage to the government right now. It's got more new drugs than any of the, 18 new compounds, could be a billion dollars. And I come back and say, all right, well that's the treasury, plus the upside."
Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ)'s shares are up by more than 50% over the past year. Cramer's optimism about the firm covers several, but not all, aspects of the debate surrounding the firm. While Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) has raised its full-year revenue guidance to a midpoint of $101 billion, removed headwinds related to its longstanding talcum powder lawsuits and posted strong growth with its Darzalex and Tremfya drugs for myeloma and psoriasis, concerns about its MedTech growth, flat profits growth and a 55.7% sales hit to its immune system disorders drug Stelara continue to raise the potential for headwinds.
For instance, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ)'s MedTech business grew by a mere 3.6% in the second quarter as it was impacted by a slowdown in sales of heart-recovery devices following a study in the United Kingdom. Additionally, for a firm that's struggling on the net income growth front, $5.5 billion in talc powder settlements will continue to be a headwind to the cash flow. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) is due to pay $3 billion out of the $5.5 billion in 2027. Yet, at the same time, the diversified business nature means that some segments are growing. One example is the Innovative Medicine Business, which grew by 6.8% to $16.4 billion revenue, due to Darzalex and Tremfya.
Looking at hedge fund sentiment, while 113 out of the 1,022 funds part of Insider Monkey's Q1 database had held a stake in Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), the figure jumped to 117 out of 1,006 funds in Q2. Among the notable additions was Polar Capital's $199 million stake, while Fisher ****** et Management ****** ped its stake by 44% to $3.3 billion. On the valuation front, Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) trades at a forward P/E ratio of 23.4,2 which is lower than MRK's 56.82 and higher than AbbVie's 18.83. Shares short as a percentage of float are negligible at roughly 1%.

JERUSALEM (AP) — An extremist Israeli lawmaker in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition publicly advocated for killing "30 to 40" people in Gaza each night, comments that surfaced Sunday and were quickly shared by Palestinian media.
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir made the statement while speaking to a former Gaza-held hostage, Rom Braslavski, on Braslavski's podcast. The two were discussing Israel's recovery from the Hamas attack of Oct. 7, 2023, when Ben-Gvir criticized Israel's recent drawdown of strikes in Gaza.
"It's no secret, I disagree with the prime minister," he said. "I think targeted ***** assinations should be carried out in Gaza, taking down 30 to 40 every night. Not just those who pose an immediate threat — there are people there who are not worthy of life. They shouldn't live. They're not even people."
In the past, similar statements by Ben-Gvir and other Israeli officials were widely condemned. Many have been presented to the U.N.'s world court as evidence of genocidal intent. Israel denies it has committed genocide in Gaza.
Israel's domestic media has made scarce mention of the statement, highlighting how once-fringe ideologies like Ben-Gvir's are surging in the leadup to Israeli elections Oct. 27.

LONDON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - An estimated $50 million ransom paid to free a hostage seized by al Qaeda-linked militants in Mali in late 2025 has helped to fund their advances across West Africa and the group's global network, U.N. experts said.
A new U.N. report detailing the use of the ransom did not identify the hostage or say who had made the payment.
Three regional sources identified the country having made the payment as the United Arab Emirates. The sources said that an Emirati citizen, as well as two other foreigners who had been kidnapped but were not referenced in the U.N. report, were freed after money changed hands. They did not explain how it had been done.
In response to questions about the kidnapping and ransom payment, a UAE official did not address the specifics of the case but said the country was unwavering in condemning and countering extremism and terrorism.

ILORIN, Kwara (AP) — Some of the 163 kidnapped Nigerians rescued from jihadi captivity have spoken of the suffering and fear they lived in for six months.
The freed captives, mostly women and children, were among over 300 kidnap victims freed by Nigerian forces this week.
They were handed over to the authorities by security forces in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, on Friday for medical attention and routine checks, and were anticipating their return home to reunite with their families.
Mary Ishaya recalled days without food, and being asked alongside others to bury other hostages who died in captivity.
The 44-year-old, who had never touched a dead body or buried one before, said: "I still cannot find the right words to describe what has happened to us. We saw death and suffering."

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza City (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel will not withdraw from its current lines in Gaza until Hamas has completely disarmed and pushed back on a recent deal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Netanyahu's remarks cast more doubt on the deal to disarm Hamas, which was seen as a potential breakthrough for ending the war. It also marked a rare public display of friction with the Trump administration.
The agreement called for Hamas to begin disarming and for Israel to halt its strikes and begin withdrawing from the roughly 60% of Gaza it currently controls. It was based on an October ceasefire agreement that ended major military operations and brought about the release of the remaining hostages held in Gaza but has stalled on other fronts.
Netanyahu, who faces a tough battle for reelection in October, reiterated his stance that disarmament should come first. He said Israeli forces would continue to "do whatever is necessary to protect themselves, our territory, and our citizens."
The Trump administration "sent us a draft. We did not agree. It is not our draft. We sent our comments. … This is our position," Netanyahu said in a video posted on social media.

Better positioned to attack the market than any other club, the Dodgers were aggressive at this year's deadline. Contextualizing for the position they were in, what they set out to accomplish, and what it took to get there, it's inevitable to conclude it was a successful deadline for the reigning back-to-back champs, worthy of an A grade.
No matter what were to happen, the Dodgers would still come out of the deadline as the favorites to win the World Series. That being said, the addition of Tarik Skubal combined with more underwhelming moves from their top rivals justifies their current odds as +160 to complete the threepeat. Even though all three division leaders in the National League possess similar records, the Dodgers are still heavy favorites to secure the NL's number one seed, currently at -370.
As evident now as ever, one of the keys to the Dodgers' success is the ability to make measured decisions with both the short-term and long-term future in mind—a team unafraid to fully explore their vast resources without being inconsequential in their approach. Skubal's acquisition fulfilled plenty of expectations, but no one can accuse the Dodgers of being held hostage by the Tigers.
Even with the departure of Zyhir Hope as the headliner, the Dodgers retain a loaded pool of outfield prospects from which they can benefit for years to come. When it comes to River Ryan, his development needed a breakthrough only a guaranteed big league spot with no leash could provide, and that was more than the Dodgers could afford to give him right now.
It was the perfect storm not only for the Dodgers to acquire Skubal but also to do so with a reasonable package, if there is such a thing. For most teams competing at an absolute high level, the reward of two months-plus of Skubal wasn't worth the loss of such highly prized ***** ets as the ones the Dodgers gave up.

Joe Rogan claims there will be little debate in the future that Israel committed a "genocide" in Gaza.
The veteran comic made the claim during the Wednesday episode of his podcast, in which he said the idea of genocide by Israel would become "universally accepted."
Rogan said he can't see how anyone can support Israel's war in Gaza, even when considering it was spurred by the Hamas terror attack in October 2023 where about 1,200 people were slaughtered and hundreds of hostages were taken.
"Like, how could anybody defend that? I don't even know how many people are dead," Rogan said. "You have a complete wipeout of a city — like 90% of Gaza is gone, or whatever the percentage is. You look at the buildings — you look at what it used to look like, [and] you look at what it looks like now — like, this is defensible?"
He got onto the topic after his guest, actor Tim Robbins, complained it was "nuts" ex-wife Susan Sarandon lost her agent and had a hard time finding work because of her criticism of Israel and comments after the 10/7 attack.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jimmy Carter used to be one of President Donald Trump 's favorite political targets, a catchall foil for ****** less Democrats that he could jeer at to make himself look strong and decisive.
But lately, Trump's sentiments on the 39th president have become more wistful as he faces some of the same challenges the late Carter did.
Those include the war in Iran with no end in sight — and now escalating as the U.S. moves to control the Strait of Hormuz — and inflation, a drag on the economy Trump hasn't tamed despite long insisting that his business background would wipe it out.
The comparison seems to be on Trump's mind, too. Asked last month why he didn't dispatch U.S. Special Forces into Iran to forcibly remove its enriched uranium, he responded, "I didn't feel like being Jimmy Carter."
That recalled the failed 1980 raid to free U.S. hostages that killed eight American servicemen. Trump also said in March that the unsuccessful mission "cost them the election" against Ronald Reagan in 1980, sounding cognizant of political realities in a way he didn't when using Carter as a punchline.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) was among the stocks Jim Cramer commented on as he advised investors on how to take advantage of Wednesday's market rotation. Cramer discussed the stock's price action after its IPO, as he stated:
We saw a slower version of the same trajectory with ******* eX. Now, I was worried that the stock would spike to absurd levels right out of the gate, but it didn't happen. I'll tell you why. The underwriters did a great job of managing the deal. ******* eX came public at $135. It opened at $150; it finished at $161, just a little bit under that. But then it gradually charged up to $225 and change a few days later as memesters tried to walk it up in the middle of the night. I used to get up and watch it happen. Bunch of chuckleheads, thought they could manipulate… a trillion-dollar stock. No.
Since then, the stock's given back most of its gains, and those gains were on very light volume. Regardless of how you feel about ******* eX, the business, or Elon Musk, the visionary, this stock is now hostage to the mechanics of the market, specifically the lockup on insider selling. Those shares will unlock gradually starting around the time of ******* eX's first earnings report as a publicly traded company. If the stock reaches $175.50 by the time the earnings come out, which is up 30% from the offer price, well, that unlocks an additional tranche of stock. That's what I'm worried about.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) manufactures and launches reusable ******* ecraft for orbital payloads and government missions, and provides satellite-based broadband internet. Additionally, it operates an artificial intelligence platform comprising computational infrastructure, user applications, and the X information network.
While we acknowledge the potential of SPCX as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. To Brian: News that CBJ players Werenski and Marchenko are not wanting to stay in Columbus after their current contracts end is very disappointing to say the least. Also, remembering the terrific Columbus Crew players, Cucho, Zelarayan, and Aidan Morris that we have lost to other clubs/cities makes you wonder what’s wrong with Columbus. Are we chopped liver, or what? Or maybe something worse? Columbus seems to be a great place for professional athletes to develop but not to stay long term. Why can’t Columbus keep the star players that can help us win the big games? It can make a loyal CBJ and Crew supporter sleepless. We can only hope. But, hope is a good thing.
Sleepless in Columbus.
Chet Ridenour Sr. Worthington
To Sleepless, er, Chet: I think the Blue Jackets part is pretty easy: Players want to win, and the Blue Jackets never win. Rebuilds get old for players who see their friends in the playoffs and winning ***** les. As for the Crew, that's how the MLS works. It is a minor league for the better leagues in the world. When players are deemed good enough to move up, it is in the Crew's best interests to set them free rather than hold them hostage.

Jaipur: With the Rajasthan High Court suspending the ad hoc committee of the Rajasthan Cricket ****** ociation (RCA), a major roadblock in state cricket governance has been removed. The High Court has appointed additional chief secretary in the state home dept Bhaskar A Sawant as the sole administrator and has directed him to complete the long-overdue democratic elections within three months.
The ad hoc setup had lingered for over two-and-a-half years since the exit of former president Vaibhav Gehlot in February 2024. Despite seeing a revolving door of political convenors and several extensions, the temporary panel failed entirely at its core mandate of organising elections.
The immediate fallout of the judicial reset is positive for the state’s sporting landscape. A stabilised, constitutionally elected leadership will finally be able to resume work on the ****** ociation’s half-built premier Chonp stadium project and address other long-pending issues. For years, local cricket development has been held hostage by exorbitant rental fees and disputes over access to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Crucially, the HC order also strengthens the prospects of the Indian Premier League (IPL) continuing in Jaipur. The relationship between the RCA and the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) had broken down in early 2024, when the sports council sealed the stadium and RCA headquarters over the expiry of their MoU and outstanding dues of approximately Rs 8 crore.
With the RCA reduced to an unelected ad hoc committee, the apex cricket board (BCCI) made an exceptional, one-time arrangement allowing the sports council to facilitate the hosting of IPL matches in Jaipur for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The Rajasthan Royals coordinated match operations directly with the sports department under this special dispensation, though the BCCI generally prefers to deal with a properly elected member ****** ociation.
However, the BCCI has repeatedly made it clear that such temporary fixes cannot continue.
According to multiple reports, Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been arrested and is facing four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery that could carry sentences of up to life in prison.
This is in connection with the armed robbery case in Tampa, Florida, from earlier this offseason. Previous allegations connected Arnold to the incident, but there were no arrests or charges until now.
The incident occurred on February 4, just one day after Arnold reported to police that around $250,000 in cash and other valuables were stolen from his Airbnb. A court order alleged that “Arnold and his friend” orchestrated their own retaliation on the people whom they believed were responsible for the initial robbery. That order alleged that five people, in addition to Arnold, were part of a plan that lured those people into a home, held them hostage at gunpoint, robbed them, and **** aulted them via pistol whip. All five people involved had already been arrested in February.
Here are the latest allegations directly related to Arnold, via Tampa.gov:
Investigators found Del Valle streamed the incident to Arnold, Hilton, and Hughes, as they were traveling to the apartment. Investigators also found a group chat with all defendants was created, where Arnold and Hilton reportedly gave directions to Del Valle, Williams, and Hudson during the **** ault.

The trade that has held the NBA hostage for more than a year (or longer) has finally happened: Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.
But there was another trade that had an impact on the Pacers: Minnesota sending Julius Randle (and his salary) to the Brooklyn Nets. It freed up the money for the Timberwolves to agree to a 5-year, $112-million deal with free agent Ayo Dosunmu, according to ESPN.
Dosunmu would have been a perfect fit for the Pacers but his signing for more than the non-taxpayer exception put him out of their reach.
We'll be using this live story to track and update all the news that could affect the Pacers and their decision-making as they head towards the draft and then the formal opening of free agency. Follow this for updates.

Despite being one of the biggest winners of the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, chip giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is facing an unexpected vote of caution from one of Wall Street's most closely watched growth investors. AMD has been on a remarkable run, delivering triple-digit gains so far in 2026 as demand for its AI and data center chips continues to explode. Strong earnings, expanding partnerships with tech giants, and market-share gains against rivals such as Intel (INTC) and Nvidia (NVDA) have further helped cement its status as a leading AI play.
That makes the latest move from Cathie Wood all the more surprising. Wood, whose investment strategy is built around disruptive technologies, has been steadily reducing her firm's AMD position. Last week, ARK Invest sold about 80,536 AMD shares across its Ark Autonomous Tech and Robotics ETF (ARKQ), Ark Newxt Generation Internet ETF (ARKW), and Ark **** e Exploration and Innovation ETF (ARKX), a stake worth roughly $40 million. The transaction continues a broader trend of ARK trimming its exposure to the chipmaker even as AMD's business momentum remains strong.

PayPal Holdings (PYPL) may be setting up for a contrarian opportunity. The digital payments giant has fallen sharply in 2026, pushing its shares into deeply oversold territory and making it one of the most oversold stocks in the S&P 500 Index ($SPX). Technical indicators such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) suggest that selling pressure may have become excessive, with a reading hovering near 30 to 40, a level often viewed as a sign of excessive selling pressure, even as PayPal continues to generate strong cash flow, expand Venmo's ecosystem, and maintain its position as one of the world's largest online payments platforms.
While concerns about intensifying competition and cautious management guidance have weighed on investor sentiment, oversold conditions often create attractive entry points for long-term investors willing to look beyond near-term headwinds. So, let's dig deeper into whether PayPal's recent weakness represents a value opportunity or a warning sign of deeper challenges ahead.

FuelCell Energy (FCEL) stock tumbled after the company reported weaker-than-expected fiscal second-quarter 2026 results, including a wider-than-anticipated loss and a 5% year-over-year (YOY) decline in revenue. However, the earnings-driven selloff did little to shake Canaccord Genuity's confidence in the company's long-term prospects.
In a surprising vote of confidence, the firm upgraded FuelCell Energy to "Buy" from "Hold" and raised its price target to a Street-high $30 from $12, arguing that the company is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the rapidly growing artificial intelligence (AI) data center power market. The bullish call comes as FuelCell's commercial pipeline has surged, with the vast majority of opportunities now tied to AI and data center customers, fueling expectations that a transformative contract announcement could be on the horizon.

A set of quotes purportedly from Jürgen Klopp, eviscerating the World Cup’s commercialized hydration breaks, deluged social media on Friday and were picked up and aggregated by several outlets.
There’s one problem: the former Liverpool manager never said any of it.
The invented remarks portray him delivering a withering indictment of FIFA’s decision to let broadcasters monetize the tournament’s mandatory three-minute breaks, calling football “held hostage by executives ensconced in air-conditioned offices,” dismissing the interruptions as “a golden cage built for sponsors,” and warning that the sport risks degenerating into “background music for an advertising show.”
The quotes were attributed to an appearance on the German broadcaster ZDF, but Klopp has spent the tournament working with Magenta, the German telecommunications company that secured domestic streaming rights to the World Cup, The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand previously reported that Fox pursued several high-profile names for its World Cup studio before landing on Zlatan Ibrahimović, among them David Beckham and Klopp himself, with Klopp at various points appearing close to accepting before ultimately choosing Magenta instead.
So Klopp is working as a broadcaster at this tournament, just not the one the quotes were attributed to, and not for the network at the center of the controversy.

The Washington Commanders had some specific goals during the offseason. Make the defense younger and faster, and find someone to take the pressure off of Terry McLaurin. General manager Adam Peters can check the first one off his list, while the latter is still up in the air.
The Commanders' wide receivers' room includes Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Antonio Williams, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, and Van Jefferson, with McLaurin as the undisputed WR1. The other receivers, though, have been named a position battle to watch during the offseason.
Commanders wide receiver: Treylon Burks vs. Dyami Brown vs. Antonio Williams vs. Luke McCaffrey vs. Jaylin Lane vs. Van Jefferson
Washington has struggled with WR depth behind Terry McLaurin for years now. Last year's solution -- Deebo Samuel -- remains a free agent as the Commanders search for a more dynamic alternative. A free agent or trade (Brandon Aiyuk?) could still fill the spot, but the Commanders need someone to emerge from this smattering of veterans and recent middle-round picks. Williams, the 2026 third-rounder, is the one to watch with his high ceiling and inside/outside versatility.
First, let's address the Brandon Aiyuk situation. Even if the San Francisco 49ers decide to release him, they haven't yet, which means that no other NFL team knows how he is doing physically, or if he's in any kind of game shape. No one will know that until he reports for a physical. On top of not knowing where he stands physically, the 49ers can essentially hold him hostage for however long they see fit, giving him minimal time to prepare with whichever team he lands with.
