Logan Gilbert has surfaced as a potential Seattle Mariners trade candidate this offseason as a disappointing 2026 campaign nears its end, barring a remarkable late-season playoff push.
Gilbert is approaching his final year of arbitration and remains scheduled to reach free agency after the 2027 season. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand included Gilbert among 11 intriguing offseason trade candidates Thursday, pointing to his contract situation, the Mariners' pitching depth, and the absence of a long-term extension as reasons the club may consider moving him.
"Could this be the offseason that the Mariners finally trade one of their starting pitchers? George Kirby might also be a candidate, but Gilbert is now only one year away from free agency and doesn't appear to be heading toward an extension with Seattle. Gilbert's 3.71 ERA in 28 starts is his highest since 2023, but he remains a rock in the rotation, ranking seventh in the AL with 165 innings pitched. Gilbert earned $10.9 million this season and will surely earn a raise in his fourth and final year of arbitration, making him a logical option if the Mariners want to trade from their pitching depth, which includes Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan – two of MLB Pipeline's Top 10 overall prospects."

It's been over a month since the trade deadline came and went and we're still getting information on a trade that never actually happened. The Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers were very close to getting a deal done that would bring Jacob deGrom to Atlanta but until today, we didn't know who or what Atlanta would be sending in return. The deal got close enough to where it came down to deGrom making a decision with his no-trade clause and that's why he's still in Texas, so we know that the Braves had agreed to trade someone away.
It appears that one of the "who's" would've been Spencer Strider. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com wrote an article about players across baseball who could be on the move via trade in the offseason and one of the names that came up was Strider. Feinsand wasted no time in sharing the details from the trade that never was:
The Braves discussed sending Strider to Texas in a contract swap trade for Jacob deGrom before the Trade Deadline, and although deGrom blocked the deal with his no-trade clause, it's clear that Atlanta is open to moving its former ace.
Feinsand also noted that while the Braves are holding out hope that Strider could help out in the Postseason coming out of the bullpen, they are also keeping their options open and could be trying to find a suitor who believes that they can get Strider back to where he was before while taking some talent for their farm system as well.
Either way, it's definitely intriguing to see that this is where the Braves are at with Strider at this point. If you woke up from a coma in 2022 to learn that the Braves could be shopping Spencer Strider around, you might've figured that it was because his contract demands were too large since he had become such a dominant force on the mound. Instead, Strider has struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances when healthy and the outlook has changed significantly for Strider.

The Toronto Blue Jays have leaned heavily on Max Scherzer's experience throughout this season and last, even when the veteran right-hander has been dealing with health issues or struggling to find his best form on the mound.
That value extends beyond what Scherzer can provide on the mound. With more than a decade of postseason experience, three Cy Young Awards and a place among baseball's all-time strikeout leaders, Scherzer remains one of the most respected voices in the Blue Jays' clubhouse. His competitive edge has never really disappeared, either, even if he isn't still the frontline ace he once was.
"I never once lost belief in my ability, if I'm healthy, to be able to go out there and get outs, compete and try to win ballgames," Scherzer recently told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Yeah, I've had little ailments pop up; OK, great, move on. No one feels sorry for you, so you've got to get back out here and start competing."
That mentality was on full display on Friday, although Scherzer wasn't the pitcher taking the mound. Instead, he found himself expressing the frustration felt by many Blue Jays in the dugout as New York Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler inexplicably delayed the start of the rivalry matchup.

Insiders are reporting, after months of speculation, that the Detroit Tigers will indeed trade Tarik Skubal in the coming days.
The Tigers are not out of the postseason race, but they are far from a lock. By keeping Skubal, they risk losing him for no return, so they could try to find a trade that keeps them competitive now, while also landing **** ets for the future. Every contender will want Skubal, who is a rental, but not every contender is being seen as a realistic landing spot.
"There will be no shortage of suitors for Skubal, with the (Los Angeles) Dodgers, (Milwaukee) Brewers and (Tampa Bay) Rays leading the pack," MLB insider Mark Feinsand wrote on Thursday. "The (Chicago) Cubs and (Atlanta) Braves will likely take their shot, too, and while the (New York) Yankees and (Philadelphia) Phillies have been mentioned as possibilities, sources believe those two clubs are long shots, as they have other holes to fill by Monday's Trade Deadline."
It's not like the Yankees and Phillies won't try to get him. However, if they're up against the Brewers, Rays and Dodgers, they won't be able to make as competitive an offer without really gutting their farm systems or big league roster.
Even though Skubal only has three months of control, he will require a massive return to get. A top 100 prospect will have to be included, likely along with a big league arm and another valuable prospect. Even then, it's unclear if a deal would get done.

With the Major League Baseball trade deadline coming up Aug. 3, the Milwaukee Brewers are sitting in an obvious playoff spot, have a loaded farm system and would theoretically be players for some of the top names seemingly available on the trade market.
But can we really expect 2026 to look different from other trade deadlines?
Count Mark Feinsand of MLB.com among those who believe the Brewers will indeed be "aggressive" at the deadline, but what does that look like?
ESPN writer Jeff Passan put together "10 blockbuster deals that would rock the trade deadline" and arranged two deals involving a superstar going to Milwaukee. They would certainly count as aggressive.
Passan first proposed a deal that sends Detroit Tigers star left-hander Tarik Skubal to the Brewers for right-hander Logan Henderson, left fielder Josh Adamczewski and infielder Ricki Moneys. The latter two are among the more intriguing prospects in the Brewers organization, and Henderson is just graduating from prospect status into reliable major-league starter.

Goodman would be the top of Boston’s list, but he does seem to come with a hefty asking price. This season, he’s slashing .257/.326/.565/.891 with 16 doubles, 31 home runs, and 57 RBI in 94 games.

The Detroit Tigers got some cool news on Wednesday, as Justin Verlander, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, was named as a "Legends Pick" for the All-Star Game this season.
While he's not going to pitch during the game, Verlander has been named an All-Star by MLB this season. However, not long after this announcement was made, Verlander made a huge announcement of his own.
As Verlander announced, the 2026 season will be his last, as he's retiring from Major League Baseball after this season comes to an end.
"... I never wanted to retire because of a milestone, a number, or a date on the calendar. I wanted the game to tell me when it was time," Verlander writes. "Over the last several months, I've realized that time has come. While I'm fully committed to giving my team everything I have for the rest of this season, I've decided this will be my last."

Jarren Duran is one name to keep a close eye on, as he's been in rumors for a while now, and could be on the move this summer. However, the current outlook doesn't look too good.
As MLB.com's Mark Feinsand notes, the Red Sox are more likely to make a disappointing decision with Duran at this year's deadline. That decision would involve Duran staying in Boston, and the club hoping he builds up some trade value.
"What could Boston get back for the 2024 All-Star Game MVP?" Feinsand writes. "Would the return be worth it? The more likely scenario is for the Red Sox to hold Duran for the rest of this year, hope he has a strong second half to regain some value, then look to move him in the offseason."
