FC Barcelona completed their final training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Friday. The Blaugrana are putting the finishing touches to their tactical preparations before hosting Deportivo Alavés in another crucial league fixture, especially after the heavy blow suffered in El Clásico.
The main news from the training ground was the confirmed absence of Jules Koundé. The French defender did not join the rest of the squad for training and has been ruled out of the match against the Vitoria-based side.
The full-back joins an already lengthy injury list. Players including Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Xavi Espart, Dani Olmo and Roony Bardghji continue their recovery programmes away from the main group.
With so many players unavailable, the coaching staff have had to reorganise the defence and midfield. Tactical changes to the starting line-up are expected to keep the team competitive.
All eyes now turn to the press room. German coach Hansi Flick will address the media at 13:00 to preview the match and ******* s the squad's fitness.

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continues to move up the NFL record books.
While leading the Pitsburgh Steelers to a 26-19 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rodgers tied Peyton Manning for third on the all-time touchdowns list with 539.
His short 6-yard touchdown pass to Germie Bernard in extra time gave the Steelers the win.
Tom Brady (649) and Drew Brees (571) are the only two quarterbacks with more regular season touchdown passes than Rodgers.
Rodgers was 33 for 49 for 253 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

By the time Lincoln Financial Field's clock struck 0:00 late Sunday afternoon and the Eagles had survived a 24-22 Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders, a palpable sense of relief could be felt by the fanbase.
For the sixth straight time under Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts, the Eagles won their opening game. It is the longest active streak in the NFL and it is always better to start 1-0 than 0-1.
Just ask the Dallas Cowboys.
While the Eagles' defense looked absolutely gassed by the end of it, they managed one last goal-line, two-point conversion stand, and spent the better part of the first three quarters limiting Jayden Daniels and the Washington offense for most of the afternoon.
It was reminiscent of a season ago, when the defense carried an offense that had trouble maintaining consistency.

Paul Finebaum and SEC Nation made their way to Lexington as Alabama is set to play Kentucky at Kroger Field today at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Ahead of today's contest, Finebaum made a bold statement about the Stein comparing him to one of the greatest head coaches of all time.
"Seventy-five years ago, Bear Bryant coached at the University of Kentucky," Finebaum said on the set of SEC Nation. "I feel a vibe right now that the next Bear Bryant has showed up at Kentucky. They really feel like they've got their guy. Will 'Bear' Stein has arrived."
"What a statement," Tim Tebow said. "That's a left hook."

NEW YORK — The large signage that is on the front of the world's biggest tennis stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows should tell you all you need to know about the impact of the man whose name it bears; who meant so many things to so many people during his short time on this Earth.
Arthur Ashe not only shattered barriers, he made sure that glass would never be repaired. He wanted the next generation, especially young Black Americans, to have a place in the game he loved so much.
So, when Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton take the court Friday night in the second US Open semifinal, it is not only a triumph for Black Americans but also for the sport of tennis.
The winner of the match will be the first Black American man to reach a US Open singles final since Ashe in 1972, and the first Black American man to reach a Grand Slam singles final since MaliVai Washington at Wimbledon in 1996.
"I think it's an exciting time," Washington said to USA TODAY Sports. "If one of them goes on to win the US Open, it will be the greatest sports story certainly of this year, and certainly of this decade. I think it shows how the growth and progression of tennis is going in the right direction. They are two great representatives of what tennis can be and what American tennis can be.

Padres news: San Diego pitcher gets big injury update as playoff push continues appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Diego Padres could be getting an important piece of their bullpen back at exactly the right time. Right-handed reliever Jason Adam continues to make progress from the right shoulder strain that has kept him on the injured list since the beginning of July.
According to MLB.com, Adam threw his third bullpen session off the Petco Park mound on Sept. 7 and is scheduled to face hitters in Arizona on Sept. 10. That's a big step toward a potential return.
Adam has been one of San Diego's most important late-inning relievers since joining the organization. When healthy, he's capable of handling high-leverage situations and serving as the bridge to the back end of the bullpen.

The Barclays Women's Super League 2 (WSL2) kicked off on Friday night under the lights. We witnessed some shock results, own goals, a red card and new signings shining. It was a ****** per weekend of footballing action.
There was plenty to talk about across the WSL 2 match-week one results, from Sunderland's four-goal win over Bristol City to Ipswich Town's late equaliser against Nottingham Forest. Here's how the opening round unfolded.
Two newly promoted teams faced off as Watford hosted Burnley at Vicarage Road. It was the first time the two teams had ever played each other.
Watford dominated possession but couldn't make any of their 12 shots count against a resolute Burnley defence. Burnley pressed Watford, giving them little to no time on the ball.
Burnley debutant and captain Christie Harrison-Murray came close with an audacious lob, but it drifted beyond Safia Middleton-Patel's post. Saoirse Noonan had Watford's best chance as she arched her run perfectly behind the last defender but shot into the side netting.

Barcelona's game against Valencia is set to kick off at Mestalla, and Hansi Flick has deployed one of the team's strongest lineups for the night.
With the UEFA Champions League coming up midweek, it is clear that the Barcelona manager wishes to test out his Gala XI in an official game, and the clash against Valencia is that big occasion.
Los Che, meanwhile, have also put up a formidable lineup although they are the underdogs by some distance at their own stadium.
Given the multiple upsets this week in La Liga including Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid losing, however, they will believe they can pull off an upset.
Valencia manager Carlos Corberan faced the media ahead of kickoff and spoke on the game that awaits his side and what he expects from Barcelona on the night.

Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza gets unfortunate November QB job projection originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Las Vegas Raiders are heading into the 2026 NFL season with Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback, as the veteran will lead the offense to start the season.
Week 1's matchup against the Miami Dolphins will have Cousins starting at quarterback over No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza. It's not a huge surprise, but naturally, it's fair to wonder when Mendoza will see the field.
ESPN's Dan Graziano shared an updated projection for the Raiders' rookie, which reveals his potential NFL debut could come all the way in November, two months into the 2026 regular season.
"It stands to reason the Raiders want to see him start at some point this season, but they have been adamant that they don't want to play him until he's ready and they feel ready to put in position to succeed," Graziano writes. "Unless something happens to Cousins or the Raiders radically change their plans, don't expect to see Mendoza before November."

While most fans expected Manchester United to go all out to sign a left-back on deadline day, INEOS had other ideas.
Despite completing a midfield revamp by signing Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba, the co-owners wanted to add one more name.
Leicester City's Louis Page had caught the Red Devils' eye, and United tried their hardest to complete a sensational late move for the 18-year-old.
However, a move never materialised as the Foxes named him in their starting lineup for the game against Plymouth Argyle, while their financial demands also proved to be a significant obstacle.

The night before the transfer window shut, it seemed it would close with Enzo Fernandez still at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were asking for £135m. It was more than Manchester City were prepared to pay. It took negotiations on 1 September to bring the price down to £125m, still a joint British transfer record and a deal that took the amount committed to buying players either to or from City this summer to around three quarters of a billion.
Had Chelsea not reduced their demands – which may be seen as an indication of their willingness to get rid of Fernandez, especially when their attempt to replace him with Monaco's Lamine Camara broke down – City might not have signed a third midfielder.
Instead, they completed a £326m revamp in the centre of the pitch. There were several pertinent elements. The £116m buy Elliot Anderson was always their first choice to replace captain Bernardo Silva, who was leaving when his contract expired and who then joined Real Madrid. City took added satisfaction from knowing some of their rivals wanted Anderson, including Manchester United.
Enzo Fernandez completed a £125m move to Manchester City on deadline day (Reuters)
The £85m arrival Ayyoub Bouaddi is seen as a player with the attributes to be world class and who, despite being only 18, is expected to play a lot of games this season. The Morocco international, who is studying for a maths degree, is regarded as belonging to the tradition of intelligent midfielders at City. Significantly, perhaps, City feel he is the only specialist No 6 in their squad.

Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards has described the decision to cancel Ski Sunday as a "huge blow" and believes it could harm Britain's progress in winter sports.
The BBC announced on Tuesday that the programme, which was first broadcast in 1978 and aired on Sunday evenings during the winter, had become the latest victim of its cost-saving measures.
Edwards, who appeared on the programme in the 1980s during his rise to fame as Britain's first Olympic ski jumper, told BBC Breakfast: "This is a huge blow.
"For many people it used to be the only programme to watch our winter athletes. It's very, very sad news.
"As soon as that theme tune came on, I used to run as a teenager to the front room to watch Ski Sunday. It kept me going, it made skiing so exciting for me and I absolutely loved it."

Borussia Dortmund may have identified another possible replacement for the injured Giannis Konstantelias, with Polish talent Marcel Regula reportedly emerging as a serious late-window option. Polish outlet Meczyki.pl – as relayed by FT – reports that BVB have reached an agreement with both Zagłębie Lubin and the 19-year-old attacking midfielder over a possible transfer.
The deal is not yet complete, however.
Dortmund are reportedly continuing to **** s several alternatives before making a final decision, with **** nal youngster Ethan Nwaneri still among the options under consideration. Zagłębie and Regula are nevertheless said to be waiting for the Bundesliga club to give the green light.
Regula has already been linked with Dortmund this summer, with BVB interest first surfacing at the beginning of August. The Poland U21 international has also attracted attention from Cologne, who reportedly explored a move amid uncertainty surrounding Said El Mala's future.
A transfer fee of approximately €8m had previously been discussed for Regula, who currently maintains an estimated €7m market value in the latest Transfermarkt listings. The teenager could represent a comparatively inexpensive permanent solution for Dortmund after Konstantelias' serious knee injury forced the Dortmund administrative team to re-enter the summer transfer market after spending heavily to complete the squad.

In a somewhat shocking decision, the Detroit Lions have made the decision to release former Michigan State football linebacker Joe Bachie. On Sunday, it was roster cutdown day in the NFL, where teams needed to get to 53 players and cuts had to be made. Unfortunately, that meant Bachie was going to be on the wrong side of the cut list.
This decision comes as a major shock to the Lions and Michigan State world, considering Lions head coach Dan Campbell raved about Bachie in a recent press conference, and Bachie was featured with the Lions media availability. Bachie had a massive training camp, where he performed well and appeared to have done enough to make the roster.
Instead, the Lions made the decision to release Bachie and move in a different direction. After the camp Bachie had, he is surely going to get several looks from around the league and could find a new landing spot.

The UFC returns to China for the second time this year. In May they were in Macau. And this is also the second time they've been to Shanghai in as many years. Who can forget the massive upset Johnny Walker pulled off over The Mountain Tiger the last time they were here?
There's a home soil hero on this card, too. It's Song Yadong. But it will be an upset if he manages to pull off the win against the -600 Umar Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov will be looking for a suffocating victory to get himself back in the ****** le picture against fellow countryman Petr Yan.
The co-main event is Yan Xiaonan vs. Denise Gomes. Former ****** le challenger Yan is climbing past her mid-thirties, but she will hope she has enough left in the tank to beat the rising Brazilian talent. Gomes will have revenge on her mind in this fight. Yan once knocked out Gomes' mentor Jessica Andrade.
Rounding out the main card is Aoriqileng vs. Kai Asakura, Alex Perez vs. Sumudaerji, Liu Ce vs. Levi Rodrigues Jr. and Bilal Hasan vs. Nilson Rojas. A number of those fights seem engineered to produce viral moments.

Joakim Mæhle is the latest player linked with a move to Juventus this summer as the Bianconeri continue their efforts to improve their squad. The Dane played for Atalanta between 2021 and 2023, meaning he already understands Italian football well and could adapt quickly if he returns to Serie A.
Juventus have improved their squad in recent weeks and have done well during the final stages of this transfer window. The Bianconeri are already among the clubs with the strongest squads in Italy, but they remain determined to ensure they have the right players available to challenge for trophies this season.
The club will continue doing everything possible to strengthen their squad, and Mæhle has now been linked with a move to Turin. The defender is a quality player who performs well when he competes, and he could provide Juventus with another strong option if they manage to complete a deal.
His previous experience in Italy could also make the move particularly appealing. Having spent two years with Atalanta, Mæhle is already familiar with the demands of Serie A and would not be entering an entirely new football environment.

The New York Giants joint practice vs. the Miami Dolphins featured dominant New York defense, intense heat, and, of course, a few scraps when the physicality got out of hand. Here are some of the takeaways from Giants head coach John Harbaugh and a handful of Giants' players.
Harbaugh said he felt the Giants were leaving the practice better than when they started it.
"We got a lot of good work done," Harbaugh said. "I think we leave the practice a better team than when we came in. That was our goal."
There were several toward the back half of practice as the intense heat and physicality got to players.
"You're not trying to do that, but it's just football," Harbaugh said. "It's not a game, so you don't have the same, quite, guardrails on it. And it's a violent game. And so, in this sort of an environment, you have these rules of engagement that aren't really rules of the game. And then somebody perceives somebody else goes over the line, or they do go over the line, and somebody needs to protect somebody, and that's where it goes.
