The San Diego Padres could be getting an important piece of their bullpen back at exactly the right time. Right-handed reliever Jason Adam continues to make progress from the right shoulder strain that has kept him on the injured list since the beginning of July.
According to MLB.com, Adam threw his third bullpen session off the Petco Park mound on Sept. 7 and is scheduled to face hitters in Arizona on Sept. 10. That's a big step toward a potential return.
Adam has been one of San Diego's most important late-inning relievers since joining the organization. When healthy, he's capable of handling high-leverage situations and serving as the bridge to the back end of the bullpen.
