Michigan State beat Eastern Michigan 35-7 on Saturday, but the Spartans went into halftime leading only 14-7 after giving up a 13-play, 78-yard touchdown drive to the Eagles in the second quarter. Pat Fitzgerald did not hide his frustration with it afterward, as he mentioned in a Michigan State Spartans press conference video.
"We've got to be better fundamentally in the second quarter. We weren't doing a great job of block destruction, we weren't fitting gaps right," Fitzgerald said. "The play they scored on we practiced. You know, there was a lot of not very happy people on our defensive headphones and defensive staff when we went in at halftime. Should have never happened."
The run defense is mostly to blame for the touchdown drive. Of the Eagles' 78 yards, 67 came on the ground. The touchdown came when Noah Kim faked the handoff to his running back and took it in himself from four yards out without being touched by a defender.
"I thought, you know, Nick (Sheridan) and Joe (Rossi) and LeVar (Woods) were right on at halftime," Fitzgerald said. "By the time I even got up in the locker room after doing a couple interviews on the field, they had already had the things that I expected I was going to say."
Once the Spartans got to halftime, the coaching staff quickly addressed the effort and made sure the players didn't make the easy mistakes that had left the field open for the Eagles. The defense locked in after the break, allowing under 70 yards across Eastern Michigan's four second-half possessions.

Sixteen years ago, Mourinho stood in the Santiago Bernabeu and lifted the trophy after leading Inter to a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the 2010 final.

Roger Goodell reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension, the league announced Sunday. The deal runs through March 2031 and would mark 25 seasons with Goodell in charge, if he completes the contract.
The compensation committee headed by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft informed the full ownership regarding the extension. The memo, reviewed by Sportico, said the committee worked with a third-party compensation consultant and outside counsel to "structure a deal that aligns Roger's compensation with the League's long-term interests and success." The value of the deal was not disclosed, but the memo stated that it is bonus heavy with more than 95% of the total compensation tied to Goodell's and the NFL's performance measured against certain metrics.

The longstanding Thanksgiving rivalry game between the New Bedford High and Durfee football teams will take on a new twist this year.
As one of the state's longest running matchups, the Whalers and Hilltoppers will square off in the 135th edition on Thanksgiving Eve with the game being played at 4 p.m. at Fenway Park in Boston.
Presented by Cross Insurance, there will be four traditional Thanksgiving rivalry games played at Fenway Park on Nov. 24 and 25, the Boston Red Sox announced on Thursday, Sept. 3. General admission tickets are $20 and allow admittance to both games that day.
"It's really exciting," said New Bedford athletic director Tom Tarpey. "The players and staff are really excited."

Jürgen Klopp paid a visit to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, with photos posted by the Bundesliga club showing the new Germany coach in conversation with several members of the squad, including shooting star Younes Ebnoutalib.

At this point, the Twins need to pivot to 2027 evaluation mode and if a few bonus wins come, all the better. Walker Jenkins and Kaelen Culpepper should be in the lineup nearly every day from here on out, Gabriel Gonzalez should see every possible PA against lefties, and Emmanuel Rodriguez and Alan Roden likely need to start taking playing time away from Trevor Larnach and Josh Bell when rosters expand tomorrow.
Part of the issue recent Twins teams have run into is simply not knowing whether certain young players are truly ready to take on a bigger role, and they can't afford that heading into 2027 on a team in need of upgrades in both the lineup and pitching staff.
Speaking of pitching, after 2027, Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez, Dean Kremer, and Bailey Ober are all free agents. Connor Prielipp and Zebby Matthews have shown flashes of brilliance this season, while Mick Abel and Kendry Rojas will be back from injury with nothing left to prove in AAA, to say nothing of pitching prospects like Riley Quick, Ryan Gallagher, and Adrian Bohorquez who will likely be ready at different points next season. Jeremy Zoll and Co. will need to sort through who of that group is worth keeping, who should be traded, who could thrive in the bullpen, and who (looking at you, Ober) maybe shouldn't be tendered a contract at all.

The Indianapolis Colts are getting some needed offensive line help.
According to Tom Pelissero, the Colts are acquiring center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger in a trade with the Buffalo Bills.
In return, the Colts are sending a 2027 sixth-round pick to Buffalo and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Tanor Bortolini will, of course, be the starting center, but the backup role needed to be filled.
The Colts tried moving guard Dalton Tucker there this summer, but he struggled often with snapping the ball. Veteran Jimmy Morrissey saw some opportunities as well, but he also dealt with inconsistency.

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte sent a message to the team on Wednesday in the aftermath of being traded to the Houston Texans.
Boutte thanked the Patriots and those who meant most to him within the franchise's ranks in a post on social media.
"I want to thank Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick, and everyone behind the scenes who poured into me," Boutte wrote. "I also want to give a special thank you to Coach Vrabel, Todd Downing, and Josh McDaniels. Boutte was selected by the Patriots with the No. 187 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Gonzalo Garcia, a player he recruited from his former employers over the summer, made an immediate impression with some excellent movement and exhibited predatory instincts to open his account in England.

Lukasz Baczek reports that Liverpool FC attempted to hijack ***** nal's new sponsorship deal with Emirates, with the Merseyside club exploring options for a new sponsor to replace Standard Chartered on the front of their shirts.
Baczek adds that the two deals could not overlap, so if Liverpool had successfully convinced Emirates to sponsor them instead, ***** nal wouldn't have been able to extend their agreement.
Liverpool still have a deal with Standard Chartered as it stands, but they're reportedly looking for a change in 2027/28.

The need for further transfer business loomed large over the Racecourse following the 1-1 draw with Watford that frustrated fans on the first home afternoon of the new Championship campaign.
But, dominating the skyline of the ground - and the city - a towering, tangible reminder of the scale of the ambition at the north Wales club.
The new £70m Kop stand is still lacking fans, still not completed, but the concrete and steel shape of an exciting future was obvious when both players and fans took their positions for the first fixture of the season at their changing north Walian home.
"It's exciting because it's a real symbol of hope ahead," said chief executive Michael Williamson.

Max Verstappen left the Dutch GP Sprint with three points and the same concern Red Bull identified on Friday: the RB22 is short of pace. After qualifying sixth, 0.527 seconds behind George Russell's sprint pole, the home driver started and finished P6 at Zandvoort. He spent much of the 24-lap race behind Oscar Piastri and could not turn that pressure into a pass.
Verstappen explained the problems he faced during the Sprint race at the Dutch GP, one of them included the high levels of tire degradation. The Red Bull driver believes that there is obvious scopes of improvement to achieve the pure pace that Red Bull and Verstappen are known for.
"I mean, we wanted to make some changes anyway, and after this race, it will stay the same, so same thought process, So we'll see if we can improve it a little bit. We we definitely lack a little bit on, like, pure pace, but at least the deg wasn't too bad in the race."
The four-time World Champion also adds,

The Cubs activated right-handed reliever Daniel Palencia from the 60-day injured list before Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park. In a corresponding move, the Cubs optioned right-hander Javier **** ad to Triple-A Iowa.
Palencia isn't expected to slide back into the closer role immediately as the Cubs look to ease him back with a focus on his workload. The 26-year-old has been limited to 16 2/3 innings in 19 big league appearances this year because of an oblique strain and a flexor strain. The latter had sidelined Palencia since June 16.
"For me, having this opportunity to be part of this and to have the chance to help the team is awesome for me," Palencia said Friday. "Like, that's what I want to be. I want to be part of this thing.
"I'm here to help my team, and I'm here open to every opportunity. I just want to pitch. Just want to be that guy, you know? That guy you can trust."

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing is still working to return to the field, and despite early pessimism about his return behind the plate, he is set to start throwing progression.
Rushing has a slight tear in his UCL, leaving him unable to perform one of the key duties as a catcher: throwing the ball back to a pitcher and trying to pick off any steal attempts.

Frank Gansz Jr., a football coach whose career spanned the NFL, college football, the CFL and several spring leagues, died at 64.
Gansz was the special teams coordinator for the St. Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League. The team and UFL announced his death.
No cause of death was immediately announced.

Gansz attended The Citadel, where he was a four-year defensive back. He entered coaching in 1987 as a graduate ****** istant at Kansas, then worked at Pittsburgh and Army before joining the New York/New Jersey Knights of the World League in 1992.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are 66-59, third place in the National League West and eight games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers. Usually a team where the offense does most of the work, it has been the pitching doing most of the lifting this season.
Arizona has been playing some good baseball lately, winning 17 of their last 28 games dating back to July 18. However, before the beginning of their three-game set at the Boston Red Sox, second baseman Ketel Marte was mysteriously put on the restricted list.
As of Monday night, no official explanation has been given by the Diamondbacks. The news was announced shortly before the team's game at 7:10 p.m. ET by Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.
Piecoro made another post on X saying that Marte is doing fine physically, he simply did not go to Fenway Park for the game. The second baseman has played in 118 of the team's 125 games this year.
As a result of his absence, the Diamondbacks did not release a lineup until about 10 minutes before first pitch. It was Illdemaro Vargas getting the start at second base and batting leadoff instead of Marte.

Much like his colleague Jon Scheyer, Duke head football coach Manny Diaz has let it be known that all starting jobs and playing time are open, no matter how much of a veteran or how talented you might be.
That sits just fine with defensive lineman Kevin O'Connor, who is coming off a sophomore season in which he recorded 11 total tackles, one tackle for a loss and four quarterback hurries.
"He's made that clear to everybody on the defense throughout the spring and summer," O'Connor said. "I think it's breeding competition and breeding excellence. Everyone is scratching and clawing to get time, so it's a great place to be, in my opinion. Everyone is scratching and clawing to get better every day, and I think it's great for the overall well-being of the team."
Duke's defensive line has to replace Vincent Anthony Jr. and Wesley Williams from last season, and although O'Connor spent most of his time playing on the outside, he's now seeing time on the interior of the line. But for the Easton, Md., native, he knows he just has to be himself thanks to the advice of former defensive coordinator Harland Bower, who left for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.
"One thing Coach Bower actually said to me before he went to Baltimore was, 'You don't want to be the next VJ or Wes. You want to be the next Kevin,'" O'Connor said. "For Tyshon, he wants to be the next Tyshon. It's not about filling in someone else's shoes. It's you stepping up to the plate and doing what you need to do."

La Gazzetta dello Sport offer background into the deal, stating that Roma's first offer was initially accepted by Porto. Gian Piero Gasperini's side put forward €8 million loan with a €42 million option to buy, subject to two conditions – Champions League qualification and a 60% participation for Mora.
Soon, Porto changed their mind and wanted a higher fee upfront and a better guarantee of the permanent deal. This demand left Roma rattled but they have now come back to the table again.
A counter-offer arrived after deliberation from the Friedkins. Roma have now offered €25 million for the permanent purchase plus a 50% interest in the future resale, which can be removed if Roma pay an additional €20 million.
This was mainly because Jorge Mendes organised a meeting between the parties today. Now, Mora's family and entourage is pushing for a move to Roma and the Portuguese side could give the green light to the move later today.
