Kate Beckinsale is speaking openly about how PTSD can affect people even when their struggles are not visible to others.
The actress shared a pair of Instagram videos on September 2 in which she discussed the toll trauma can take on sleep, daily life and relationships. Her comments came after she had also been reflecting publicly on grief following the death of her mother, Judy Loe.
Beckinsale focused much of her message on people who continue working, caring for family and socializing while dealing with intense symptoms privately.
"They get up, they go to work, they look after their kids, they provide for their family, they have a laugh, they're the fun person, but they don't sleep for more than an hour because when they do, it's full of nightmares," she said.
Beckinsale said everyday triggers can suddenly overwhelm someone.

Ricky Schroder got slammed online following his transphobic and anti-vaccine laced tribute to Dolly Parton.
Remembrance after remembrance flooded the internet Tuesday after news that the country music legend had died. Schroder – who played Parton's father in two TV movies, "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors" and "Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love" – joined his voice to the many. But he still couldn't help but point out their political differences in his tribute.
"I didnt [sic] agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support…but Loved her anyway," Schroder wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of him and Parton. "Thank you for choosing me Dolly to be your Movie Daddy."
This led to a number of celebrities calling the "NYPD Blue" star out for feeling the need to mention those things while honoring Parton. Katie Couric, Boy George, and many others heaped on their disgust for the way Schroder chose to honor Parton's memory.

Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The casting of Meghan Markle to play a role in the Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn amid intense backlash in Britain, it was reported Saturday.
The **** ss of Sussex had been in talks to return to acting when she and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, return to Britain after living in California for the past six years.
She had been hoping to join the third season of the Guy Ritchie show The Gentlemen on Netflix.
But the casting was reportedly withdrawn.
"The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward," wrote Tina Brown, the former editor in chief of Vanity Fair and the New Yorker, in her Substack.

Perez Hilton remains hospitalized nearly two weeks after a serious mental health crisis at his Miami home, with his family making clear that there is still no timetable for his return home or to work.
In a new update, Hilton's family said the 48-year-old internet personality continues receiving inpatient treatment from a team of medical and mental health professionals.
The update follows an emotional interview from Hilton's sister, Barbara Lavandeira, who previously said both his physical and mental recovery would require considerable time. She also said her brother currently has no access to a cellphone, social media or the internet while his care continues.
One part of Hilton's life is beginning to move again without him. His family says the team behind PerezHilton.com will resume publishing entertainment news this week while the site's founder remains focused on his health and recovery.
The family's latest official update says Hilton remains hospitalized following the Aug. 4 crisis. "At this time, Perez remains hospitalized and is receiving the medical care he needs," the family said. "His treatment is continuing in an inpatient setting under the care of a dedicated team of medical and mental health professionals."

Kristin Cavallari's Mallorca vacation photos prompted another round of questions about her relationship with Southern Charm cast member Austen Kroll.
Kroll appeared alongside Cavallari and several friends in one photograph from the trip, leading some Instagram users to ask whether the carousel represented a romantic "hard launch."

Singer-songwriter D4vd is set to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday as prosecutors aim to prove sufficient evidence exists for him to stand trial for the murder and ******* ual abuse of a minor, Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
The preliminary hearing is expected to conclude on Thursday. The proceeding follows several delays in the case, in part due to the voluminous amount of investigatory evidence.
Los Angeles county prosecutors accuse the musician, born David Anthony Burke, of stabbing Hernandez to death at his Los Angeles residence last April to silence her from divulging the ******* ual nature of their relationship as his career was burgeoning, according to court documents.
Prosecutors say they began a ******* ual relationship in November 2023, when Burke was 18 and Hernandez was 13.
Burke allegedly mutilated her deceased body, sawing her limbs with a chainsaw and amputating her ring finger, which had a tattoo of his name, before discarding her dismembered limbs in a Tesla, per court documents.
