After their first day off in September on Thursday, the Brewers will continue their stretch of NL Central foes as they'll host the Reds for three games in Milwaukee, the second time they'll see Cincinnati in the last two weeks, as the Reds took two of three in Cincy last weekend. The Brewers are coming off of a sweep of the Cubs to balloon their NL Central lead to 10 games over the rest of the pack, sitting at 91-56 with 15 games left. The Reds, who sit in last place, are 69-77 after being swept by the Dodgers to begin the week.
Since the last time these teams met, the Reds have activated right-hander Graham Ashcraft and third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes from the IL, with left-hander Sam Moll designated for ******* ignment and utility man Edwin Arroyo optioned to Triple-A Louisville in the corresponding moves. The Brewers have only lost Grant Anderson, who was placed on the 15-day IL with biceps tendinitis. He was replaced on the active roster by Brandon Sproat, though Sproat was demoted once again on Thursday, with the corresponding move expected to be a recall of right-hander Garrett Stallings to shore up the bullpen. Jake Bauers is also continuing to deal with a variety of lower-body injuries, and the Brewers have opted to focus on managing the injuries rather than putting him on the IL.
Just to remind you of what these two teams bring to the table offensively and on the mound, here's a quick rundown of both squads.
Milwaukee is hitting .257/.339/.400 (.739 OPS ranks fourth), with 137 homers (last), 742 runs scored (third), and 143 steals (fourth). The Reds are hitting .230/.308/.398 (.706 OPS ranks 23rd), with 196 homers (fourth), 611 runs scored (25th), and 102 steals (11th).
On the mound, Milwaukee ranks second in the majors with a 3.56 team ERA, including a 3.63 starter ERA (fifth) and a 3.46 bullpen ERA (fifth). They've struck out 1,406 batters (second) over 1,312 2/3 innings. Cincinnati ranks 27th with a 4.73 team ERA, including a 4.78 starter ERA (27th) and a 4.68 bullpen ERA (25th). They've struck out 1,186 batters (20th) over 1,293 innings.

After a whirlwind offseason and preseason, the San Francisco 49ers got some much-needed good news going into Week 1 of the NFL season.
Nick Bosa will play against NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams in Thursday's season opener in Melbourne, Australia, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris told reporters Monday, Sept. 8. The All-Pro edge rusher tore his right ACL in Week 3 last season and began doing individual drills during training camp in July but was soon sidelined again with tendinitis. He continued to rehab in recent weeks and returned to practice on Sept. 2. He progressed enough in his rehab to travel with the Niners to Melbourne, but his status remained unclear.
That was until Morris addressed the media on Monday night in no uncertain terms.
"Oh, he's going out there," Morris said. "Whatever you want to say, he's going. He'll be there. We're not hiding that."
Bosa took the field for practice in full uniform on Monday with a brace on his right knee. A few other key players on the injury report – tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Mike Evans and running back Christian McCaffrey – were all reportedly fully dressed as well.

When he's healthy, San Francisco 49ers star pass rusher Nick Bosa is one of the best pass rushers in the entire league. And despite questions about his health, it sounds like he'll be ready to go for the team's season opener.
Bosa tore his ACL last season and has been recovering ever since. While he may not be back to 100 percent just yet, it sounds like he'll be on the field.
During a game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 21 of 2025, Bosa tore his ACL and underwent surgery just a few days later. That recovery, however, has not exactly gone according to plan.
As Bosa was coming back from his injury over the summer, he experienced a bit of a setback with soreness and tendinitis in his right knee, leading the 49ers to shut him down until Sept. 2, when he returned to practice.
All of that has led to some concern about whether or not he will be ready when the team takes the field in Australia this week, but it sounds like he's going to be there.

MELBOURNE, Australia - The mystery is solved.
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris told reporters ahead of Tuesday's practice at AAMI Park in Melbourne that defensive end Nick Bosa will play in the season-opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
"Oh, he's going out there," Morris said, after initially giving an unclear response and being asked to clarify in a follow-up question. "Whatever you want to say, he's going. He'll be there. We're not hiding that."
The announcement of Bosa's return ends more than a month-long saga since the 28-year-old began missing training camp practices. Bosa, who's coming off a torn right ACL, was dealing with lingering tendinitis from his recovery early in August.
Then, he suddenly returned for one practice last Wednesday, the morning of the 49ers' flight to Australia. After that practice, Bosa said his body felt great and that he was preparing to play.

The San Francisco 49ers are one day - and one practice - away from boarding a flight to Melbourne, Australia, for their Sept. 10 season-opener against the Los Angeles Rams. It's still unclear if one of their two best defensive players will be making the trip.
General manager John Lynch said in a Tuesday morning interview with KNBR that defensive end Nick Bosa worked out on a side field Monday and was expected to do the same Tuesday. But the star defensive end wasn't present for either day's portion of open practice.
The lack of transparency from the 49ers surrounding Bosa's recovery is creating a bizarre situation. Perhaps he simply doesn't want to work out on the side field in front of a slew of cameras?
Bosa hasn't practiced in nearly a month. He was dealing with tendinitis in August amid his continued recovery from a torn right ACL suffered last September. According to coach Kyle Shanahan, the tendinitis isn't a concern at this point. Rather, he said the team is "just being smart" by monitoring Bosa's practice intensity on a daily basis.
Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris declined to offer specifics on the management plan for the 28-year-old superstar: "Bosa's got a plan in place. I don't want to reveal it if Kyle hasn't done it, but I'll let him do that stuff, break the news to you," Morris said. "But obviously they've got a real, legit plan … all-hands-on-deck type mentality to get him ready to go, so whatever it takes for him to get out there. I'm just going to feel good when he gets a chance to get out there and to be able to call those plays for him."

The San Francisco 49ers are adding reinforcements on their defensive line before their preseason finale vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.
According to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the 49ers and edge rusher Jah Joyner agreed to a deal that will bring Joyner to the Bay Area for the final few days of the 49ers' preseason. Joyner tried out for the 49ers on Wednesday. There's no word yet on a corresponding move which the 49ers will have to make to keep their roster at the 90-player limit.
San Francisco is thin at defensive end with Nick Bosa sidelined by knee tendinitis and rookie Romello Height working through an ankle issue. If the 49ers are going to rest players that figure to be key contributors on their 90-man roster, they may be even thinner Thursday night when they take on the Las Vegas Raiders. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if both Keion White and Sam Okuayinonu were among the players not suiting up for the 49ers.
This marks the second defensive end the 49ers have added in the final week of the preseason. They also signed former Dallas Cowboys fourth-round pick Viliami Fehoko. Joyner will get Thursday's game, and then as many as three practices to make his case to stick around as a practice squad candidate.
Joyner is with the UFL's Houston Gamblers after being released by the Dallas Renegades in March. His only NFL experience came last offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders where he landed as an undrafted free agent following the 2025 draft. He was let go at final cuts and never signed to another NFL club.

When Daniel Duarte had his second elbow surgery in April 2024, most people the right-handed reliever spoke to believed his chances of getting back to the big league mound were a relative coin flip.
Duarte's 18-month recovery has the potential to be a lifetime in Major League Baseball. An opportunity in his native Mexico in the Mexican Pacific Winter League this past winter helped the right-hander regain his confidence. He did not allow an earned run in 24 innings and converted five saves.
Then, the Mets came calling with a minor league deal.
"I knew once I have the opportunity, I can show that I still can pitch in the big leagues," Duarte told NorthJersey.com this week. "First of all, I want to be healthy because in the past, there's been a couple of injuries, like one Tommy John and bone spurs and tendinitis, different kind of stuff. I'm glad that now I have no problems, healthy and doing what I like."
More than two seasons removed from his baseball career teetering on disrepair, Duarte, whose only extended major league action came in 2023 with the Reds, has latched onto his opportunity in a Mets bullpen still reeling from a massive trade deadline sell-off.

49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has not practiced since Aug. 3 with soreness and tendinitis in his surgically repaired right knee.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan did not provide a timeline for Bosa on Tuesday.
"He's making a lot of progress," Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. "He has a lot less irritation, soreness, and tendinitis—whatever you want to call it—than he had last week. So we think he's going in the right direction, and we see him similar to Christian [McCaffrey]."
Bosa injured his knee in a Sept. 21 game against the Cardinals and underwent surgery Sept. 26.
Bosa, 28, has not had a double-digit sack season since 2023, which is the last time he played all 17 games. He has played only 17 games over the past two seasons, totaling 11 sacks.

49ers roster moves: D-lineman and O-lineman signed to one-year deals
"Throughout his five-year NFL career with the Cardinals (2021-24) and New York Giants (2025), he has appeared in 60 games (eight starts) and registered 51 tackles, 4.0 sacks, two passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. In 2025, Dimukeje appeared in five games with the Giants and registered one tackle and one pass defensed."
For 49ers' Nick Bosa, second ACL surgery is a 'different beast' as tendinitis lingers (paywall)
"Dr. Prem Ramkumar, an orthopedic knee and hip surgeon who consults for the X Games and Long Beach State athletics, termed an ACL revision a "very big deal" and a "different beast." Dr. Nirav Pandya, professor of orthopedic surgery at UCSF, said the trauma Bosa's right knee has suffered means it will be "asking a lot" for the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year to flash his pre-injury form next month, or perhaps, this season….Before Bosa was sidelined, he told Sports Illustrated that last year's surgery had also addressed "chronic" quadriceps tendinitis that had developed from the first ACL repair on his right knee. Pandya noted it would be more problematic if Bosa's current tendinitis isn't related to his most recent ACL surgery, which Shanahan suggested it was.
"He's had quad tendinitis since he was in high school and it's been this lingering, ongoing problem," Pandya said. "The issue that you get worried about long-term tendinitis is that that can eventually lead to degeneration of a tendon. It's more ******* e to kind of have chronic issues or even tear."
49ers TE George Kittle's 'eye-popping' recovery progress has Rapoport impressed
"When I was in Santa Clara about a week or so ago, finishing up Inside Training Camp, I had the opportunity to watch George Kittle do his workout, kind of alongside practice, pre-practice," Rapoport said on NFL Network's The Insiders. "It was eye-popping. It was really good. It was really fast. It was looking like a player who is basically going full speed.
"You listen to George Kittle say it—the fact that the numbers are basically what he wants—is an unbelievable thing. He is seven months out from an Achilles injury. Now, generally players do not get back on the field until nine months. The season starts about eight months after him tearing his Achilles."

There was a rare bit of good injury news for San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa on Sunday.
Bosa didn't start training camp on the PUP list after tearing his ACL in Week 3 last season. The 49ers instead opted to ease him into action. Despite not participating in team drills throughout training camp, Bosa wound up dealing with tendinitis in the knee he suffered the ACL tear in. That ailment was originally labeled as "soreness" by the 49ers and Bosa was a no-show at practice in any capacity for the better part of two weeks.
A player missing practice typically means they're on a side field working out or watching the session on the sidelines. Bosa has been entirely absent while dealing with his knee injury. That changed Sunday according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, who pointed out in his practice recap that Bosa was working out while reporters and fans were in attendance.
Perhaps most notable here: We had our first side field Bosa sighting since he began experiencing tendinitis and soreness early in camp. He did an extensive workout on the side field. A (public) step in the right direction for him.
It's not an indicator that Bosa is nearing a return, but having him work out on a side field where reporters and fans would be able to see him is a sign that the 49ers' star defensive end is at least trending in the right direction.

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey missed practice again Tuesday. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak attributed McCaffrey's absence on Monday to tightness, with nothing more specific.
The concern is McCaffrey had calf tightness during the 2024 training camp that carried into the season. He played only four games with what was later announced as Achilles tendinitis and a separate injury to his posterior collateral ligament.
Coach Kyle Shanahan, though, said he is not concerned by McCaffrey's current setback.
"No," Shanahan said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. "My concern would be him toughing through tightness, like a lot of people do, and then hurting something bad, and then pulling something, which then, it could be a month. That would be our concern, so once we hear him talking a certain way, Christian's a guy who needs to get prepared for Week 1. But also, we're pretty confident in what he's done before. We're confident in what he's done these two weeks, and we just want to make sure we don't make it something to be concerned about."
McCaffrey, 30, led the league with 413 touches last year. He finished the season with 311 carries for 1,202 yards with 10 touchdowns and caught 102 passes for 924 yards with seven touchdowns. He had 37 more touches in two postseason games, rushing 26 times for 83 yards, along with 11 catches for 105 yards with two scores.

As the Los Angeles Rams get ready for their Week 1 showdown in Australia, the team has been overly cautious when it comes to the health of their players, especially their stars. It's allowed players to participate in complete or near-complete seasons due to the lack of wear-and-tear being put on their bodies during practice.
The reason they do this is to avoid the injuries currently plaguing the NFL. For their Week 1 opponent, the San Francisco 49ers, they have been the antithesis of the Rams, using physical practices to build calluses for the season. The 49ers have been ravaged by injuries for years, and according to 49ers insider Matt Maiocco, it appears All-Pro defender Nick Bosa has suffered a bit of a setback from an ACL injury. It has forced the 49ers to take things slowly with their top pass rusher.
"Coach Kyle Shanahan said 49ers DE Nick Bosa has tendinitis, which, he said, is "a pretty normal thing with ACLs." He said the team has to be smart with Bosa from week to week," wrote Maiocco.
Bosa only played in three games last season and hasn't had a double-digit sack season since 2023. The Rams and 49ers are set to play in one month, with their contest being set for September 10th.

All-Pro San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is dealing with tendinitis in his surgically repaired right knee and remains absent from practice at training camp.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan discussed Bosa's condition with reporters on Tuesday and downplayed concern that it could linger. He described the tendinitis as "normal" for Bosa coming off surgery to repair an ACL tear and described him as "week-to-week."
"Just soreness, tendinitis," Shanahan said. "It's a pretty normal thing with ACLs. Just talking to our guys, they say it happens to about 90% of the guys we've had. It's a normal thing, so we've got to be smart here, week-to-week. No concerns about him, it being any more than that. "
Per ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Shanahan said that the goal remains for Bosa to suit up for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 10.
Bosa tore his ACL in Week 3 last season against the Arizona Cardinals and missed the rest of the season, leaving San Francisco without its top pass rusher.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided updates about some of the team's top players. Nick Bosa has missed several practices in a row after dealing with some soreness.
Shanahan said it's nothing more than that:
"Just soreness. Tendinitis. It's a pretty normal thing with ACLs. Just talking to our guys, it's happened to about 90% of the guys we've had, so it's a normal thing. We have to be smart here from week to week. No concerns about it being any more than that."
According to reporter James Palmer, the tendinitis Bosa is dealing with stems from his first ACL injury back in high school on his right knee..
There's a similar lack of concern for Christian McCaffrey on Shanahan's end:

WASHINGTON — This time, there was little argument when Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider came to the mound to take the ball from Max Scherzer.
This time, as Scherzer departed the mound for the dugout and a small but spirited Nationals Park crowd of 17,618 offered a standing ovation, Scherzer didn't stare daggers and skulk into the dugout.
Instead, he turned and wearily offered a wave of his right hand to a crowd that still reveres him for his work in Washington.
On Monday, July 27, Scherzer celebrated his 42nd birthday by returning to a major league mound for the first time since June 10 and just the ninth time this season. Back spasms shelved him most recently for six weeks, just one start after he returned from another six-week absence due to right forearm tendinitis and ankle inflammation.
Yet the details are almost irrelevant. Simply, Scherzer is old.

Noni Madueke says the "healthy competition" between himself and **** nal team-mate Bukayo Saka in the England squad doesn't affect their relationship.
Since the World Cup started, England boss Thomas Tuchel has been managing Saka's minutes because of his Achilles tendinitis . This gave Madueke the chance to start on the right for the opening two Group L matches.
Saka started in the most recent game against Panama, but was later replaced in the second half by Madueke.
"It comes down to the coach's decision - what he wants and what he thinks is best for the team - but, from my side, I'm always ready," said Madueke.
"Obviously it's well documented that we're very close, so normally it should be a little bit strange - but it's not. I feel like it doesn't really affect our relationship whatsoever.

BOSTON (AP) — Max Scherzer is back on the injured list.
The Toronto Blue Jays placed the three-time Cy Young winner on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with back spasms. The move came hours before Scherzer was scheduled to start against the Boston Red Sox.
Toronto will use reliever Braydon Fisher as an opener against Boston instead.
Scherzer, who turns 42 next month, spent more than six weeks on the injured list this season with right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. He returned last week and became the 11th pitcher in major league history to reach 3,500 career strikeouts when he fanned Philadelphia slugger Kyle Schwarber.
The moment proved to be the highlight as Scherzer was pulled after giving up five runs in 3 1/3 innings in what became a 7-4 loss to the Phillies.

Forget Skubal — the Astros need to fix their bullpen before anything else originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Every contender with a rotation need has circled Tarik Skubal's name, and the Houston Astros are no different. However, Houston's most urgent problem right now is a volatile bullpen. While rumors are making rounds about the Detroit Tigers' ace, adding a frontline starter won't save a team whose relief unit frequently leaks runs in the late innings.
Though elite closer Josh Hader recently returned from a two-month injured list stint for biceps tendinitis, the rest of the unit remains shaky. Bryan Abreu, who handled closing duties early in the year, struggled immensely and still carries a 6.66 ERA.
Outside of Hader, the team has relied almost entirely on Bryan King to protect leads. King has been excellent, posting a 2.37 ERA across 28 appearances, but leaning on just one stable setup option in a 13-man bullpen is a dangerous formula for October baseball.
The Tigers' two-time AL Cy Young winner is heading for free agency after the 2026 season. According to ESPN, a trade is now widely considered likely.

The red-hot postseason for sophomore shortstop Adrian Rodriguez continued on Monday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha as the No. 6 Texas Longhorns extended their stay in the College World Series with a convincing 14-2 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.
In the seventh postseason game for Rodriguez, the Flower Mound product recorded his seventh straight multi-hit performance, going 5-for-5 with seven RBI in hitting for just the third cycle in CWS history after a scoring decision review turned a second-inning double into a triple.
Rodriguez combined with the two batters in front of him — freshman left fielder Anthony Pack Jr. and junior designated hitter Ethan Mendoza — to go 11-for-14 (.786) with six runs and 13 of the 14 RBI recorded by the Longhorns. In recording 13 hits overall, Texas went 8-for-17 (.471) with runners in scoring position and 9-for-21 (.429) with runners on base, evidence of the extent to which the Horns improved their mental process at the plate after getting sped up in Saturday’s loss to the Diamond Dogs.
Texas also got a quality start from senior right-hander Ruger Riojas, the third straight from the 6’0, 195-pounder after battling shoulder tendinitis last month. Riojas threw 105 pitches over six innings, allowing two runs on six walks with seven strikeouts and two walks, putting the Horns in a positive to win without extending the bullpen after the offense gifted him three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning.
To open the game, Riojas worked off his lively fastball at 95 to 96 miles per hour, mixing in two different breaking ******* to keep Alabama hitters off balance. Shortstop Justin Lebron did record a one-out single up the middle and a two-out stolen base, but the depth on a 1-2 breaking ball from Riojas induced the third strikeout in the frame.

Taylor Fritz and Morgan Riddle were one of the most high-profile couples in the tennis world, due in large part to Riddle's efforts to promote the sport through her work as a social media influencer. The couple first met on the celebrity dating app Raya in 2020 and remained together for nearly six years before ending their relationship in April 2026.
Fritz missed the majority of the clay-court season after taking a short hiatus to treat his knee tendinitis. Amid his two-month absence from the tour, rumors emerged that he had parted ways with his longtime girlfriend, but Riddle swiftly shut down the claims that she had been "dumped."
A few weeks later, however, Riddle confirmed the split in a unique way, sharing a picture of herself posing in a T-shirt with the phrase "World's Best Ex-Girlfriend." Fritz even liked the post, giving the impression their breakup was amicable. The social media influencer also relocated to New York after spending the past five years in Los Angeles with the world No. 9.
Speaking to Elle, Riddle revealed that she and Fritz remain on friendly terms, which is why she chose to announce their separation in a lighthearted manner rather than issuing a conventional statement.
"We're on good terms, so I wanted to make it more lighthearted than breakups usually are online," Riddle said.
