LONDON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - The first visitors to the British Museum's blockbuster Bayeux Tapestry exhibition spoke of their excitement at seeing with their own eyes the 1,000-year-old embroidery many ‌remember from school lessons.
The sell-out display, which opened to the public on Thursday, has sparked ‌a Bayeux craze across Britain, with newspapers producing special guides, online discussions about securing tickets, and the pub opposite the museum temporarily changing its name to "The Beer Tapestry".
The masterpiece will be shown at the museum in central London for the next 10 months, having left France for the first time since the 11th century. It depicts the Norman invasion of England in 1066, the most famous date in the nation's history.
"It's just magical, isn't it?" ‌said Pauline Gairey, 53, a finance professional who had travelled from Wales, and recalled studying the tapestry at school.

Natsuki Deguchi brought two completely different fashion stories to the Venice Film Festival while promoting Hirokazu Kore-eda's Look Back.
Daniele Venturelli/WireImage
Natsuki started the day in a Maison Margiela Co-Ed Fall 2026 look that was far removed from the simple, clean elegance we are used to seeing at Venice photocalls.
The floral-print dress was overlaid with fused and spliced tapestry panels, arranged to create the impression of a Stockman dressmaker's dummy. With the tapestry appearing almost pinned onto the floral base and its raw edges left exposed, there was an unfinished quality that made the construction the most interesting part of the look.
It's the kind of Margiela design that makes more sense the longer you look at it. Yes, there is a lot happening between the contrasting prints, textures and deconstructed finish but she sold it too me.

On August 26, Movado Group (NYSE:MOV) reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results that pushed adjusted earnings per share to $0.54 from $0.23 a year earlier, while net sales climbed 4.9% to $169.8 million. The jewelry and watch company also confirmed it will stop issuing annual financial guidance going forward, choosing instead to focus commentary on near-term trends. For a business built on Swiss craftsmanship and a stable of licensed fashion brands, the quarter marked a fifth straight period of positive momentum, and it came with a few surprises tucked inside the numbers.
Some of the headline strength came from a one-time source: $3.2 million in IEEPA duty refunds tied to tariffs paid between February 2025 and May 2026, which lifted GAAP gross margin to 59.4% from 54.1%. But strip that out and adjusted gross margin still rose 340 basis points to 57.5%, driven by favorable channel and product mix, strategic pricing, and less discounting. Growth was broad rather than concentrated in one line item. US net sales rose 4.9%, international sales rose 4.9% as well (4.1% in constant currency), and Latin America and India posted particularly strong results.
Movado.com sales jumped 8%, and Olivia Burton sales grew 23%, powered by small-shaped watches focused on the U.K. and US markets. The company also flagged a resurgence in traditional watch interest among younger buyers, pointing to the Baby Face mini strap watch, which sold out more than 400 units on movado.com in under a month. Looking ahead, Movado is expanding its Tapestry partnership to launch Kate Spade watches starting next fiscal year. The balance sheet backs up the momentum, with $211.6 million in cash, no debt, and $16.6 million already returned to shareholders through dividends this year.
Not every piece of this quarter travels into the second half. Management was explicit that the favorable mix of lower duty rate inventory that padded margins is temporary and is not expected to continue, and second-half gross margin guidance of 55% to 56% reflects that normalization. Sallie DeMarsilis also noted that gross margin gains were partially offset by higher shipping costs tied to fuel surcharges and rising e-commerce volume.
Geographically, the Middle East remains a soft spot, with Efraim Grinberg citing tourism-related headwinds in a region still affected by regional conflict. Operating expenses rose to $85.7 million from $80.6 million, largely on higher performance-based compensation and marketing spend. There is also a smaller but notable item: a $0.2 million pretax charge tied to a misconduct investigation within a Dubai-based Swiss subsidiary branch. And while Movado expects to recover another $6.8 million in IEEPA duties, it has chosen not to recognize that gain until the cash actually arrives, a reminder that not all of this quarter's tailwind is guaranteed to repeat.

King Charles and Queen Camilla attended a garden party marking the 125th anniversary of a charity organization, where the monarch met Pakistan's national cricket team while the Queen mingled with dancers. The outing also marked their first public appearance since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK last month.
King Charles and Queen Camilla attended the Victoria League for Commonwealth Friendship's 125th anniversary. At Clarence House, the monarch also met Pakistan's national cricket team. On the other hand, Queen Camilla conversed with dancers from the Royal Academy of Dance at the London headquarters.
There, she met professionals from various classes, including those aged 55 and over, those undergoing cancer treatments, and people from underprivileged backgrounds. During her visit, she also handed over the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Award to Christopher Wheeldon, OBE.
Following their royal engagements, they then headed to the British Museum, where they were also joined by French President Emmanuel Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron. Moreover, U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his wife, Marie-France van Heel, were also present at the museum.
In this visit, they viewed the Bayeux Tapestry, which showcases the Norman conquest of England. The tapestry was loaned to the UK for the first time since its creation, and in exchange, the country promised to send some national treasures to France (via PEOPLE).

King Charles has been as busy as usual on Wednesday with the monarch returning to work following the summer break and the return of his son, Prince Harry.
After hosting a garden party and meeting with members of the Pakistani cricket team, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, joined Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, the President and First Lady of France, at the British Museum.
The group, who were also accompanied by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, all headed out to view the Bayeux Tapestry after it was temporarily loaned to Britain. They enjoyed a private viewing of the iconic artwork before an exhibition at the museum opens to the public on 10 September.
While Charles and Emmanuel looked smart in their suits, their glamorous wives stole the show as they arrived in stylish, matching white dresses.

NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE) and On Holding (NYSE:ONON) are two firms competing with each other in a David versus Goliath scenario. Both the stocks are down by more than 35% year-to-date. Starting from the former, Cramer has discussed the firm several times over the past couple of months. He has focused on the firm's ongoing turnaround efforts and shifted his opinion. Throughout 2025, Cramer cited faith in NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE)'s CEO and the turnaround, but earlier this year shifted his opinion. As for On Holding (NYSE:ONON), the CNBC TV host decided to "pass" on the shares in May. On August 17th, he shared his take on why he changed mind on NKE and commented on ONON's management change:
"I was shocked at Tapestry, I went to see them earlier, we had a great interview about it. On, no. I think that we are fundamentally saying, alright, sneakers, just not a great business. I talked about my problems with Nike in my Club meeting on Thursday. Well I like to start with the most stupid things that I do. That way I get it through. Like why, people are going to say, hey why doesn't Cramer talk about the dumbest thing he did? Well I put it right at the top! . . .But I think that Nike is, there are a lot of people that I got pushed back on Nike, people say, Nike's too cheap, you shouldn't have given up on it. But I gave up on it higher. On, was like the old days. When you realized that. . .it didnt' have it. Which was rather amazing. Look, I when they shuffle management, unless it's L3Harris, they usually shuffle management for performance."
For NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE), as it should be obvious, the central theme for the firm is its turnaround. The firm's fiscal Q4 earnings released in June saw it beat **** yst revenue and earnings estimates. Crucially, NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE)'s warehouse figures showed improvement. In his previous appearances, Cramer has commented that the firm lost traction in the physical store market by losing out on shelf **** e and focusing on digital channels instead. NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE)'s wholesale revenue grew by 4% in Q4 to sit at $6.6 billion. Additionally, the firm also posted no inventory growth and an 890 basis point increase in its gross margins to indicate cost control.
Yet, while NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE) might be addressing its structural issues and managing its costs, the firm is struggling with growth in emerging markets due to inflation. Additionally, a large portion of the margin improvement came courtesy of tariff recovery while its Converse brand and the digital business continue to struggle. As a result, tailwinds in the shares depend on whether the firm will be able to manage inventories, costs and shelf market share.

On August 13, Tapestry (NYSE:TPR) reported fiscal 2026 results that beat the three-year targets management set at its Investor Day, and did so two years ahead of schedule. Revenue climbed to $8 billion, up 17% on a pro forma constant currency basis, while earnings per share jumped 38% to $7.05. Handbags led the way, but the quarter also exposed a widening gap between Coach's momentum and Kate Spade's stalled turnaround, a split investors will be watching closely heading into fiscal 2027.
Tapestry's full-year numbers were not a one-quarter fluke. Operating margin expanded 340 basis points to more than 23%, and the company added 11 million new customers across its brands, with Gen Z shoppers leading the way. Those younger buyers tend to spend at higher average unit prices and stick around, which is why management keeps pointing to acquisition as the engine behind everything else.
Coach did the heavy lifting. Fourth-quarter constant currency revenue rose 14%, with North America up 10%, Greater China up 30%, and Europe up 25%. Handbag prices rose at a mid-teens rate for the full year while unit volumes also grew, a combination that shows the brand can raise prices without scaring off shoppers. Footwear grew at a high-teens clip in the quarter, and management still sees a path for Coach to become a $10 billion brand.
That growth is translating into cash. Tapestry returned $1.7 billion to shareholders in fiscal 2026 and plans to return the same amount in fiscal 2027, backed by a 16% dividend increase to an annualized $1.85 per share. Leverage sits at 1.1 times adjusted EBITDA, more than a full turn below the company's own 2.5 times ceiling, leaving room to keep buying back stock while it invests in stores.
Kate Spade remains the drag on the story. Management itself called the brand's top-line progress "more gradual than we planned," and unaided brand awareness still has not improved despite a marketing push. Guidance for fiscal 2027 calls for a high single-digit revenue decline at Kate Spade and a modest operating loss, with new hires in marketing and creative meant to fix a problem that has outlasted earlier attempts.

Tapestry (TPR) gave lackluster guidance early Thursday as Kate Spade challenges persist, offsetting an earnings and revenue beat for the fiscal fourth quarter. Intraday, TPR stock plunged below key levels, setting off a sell signal.
The designer handbag, accessories and apparel company's Kate Spade New York brand continued to drag on earnings, outweighing strength in the Coach brand.
For the quarter ended June 27, Tapestry delivered earnings per share of $1.32, ahead of estimates for $1.28. Revenue of $1.88 billion edged past views. Year over year, Tapestry earnings jumped 27% while sales rose 9%.
On a brand level, Kate Spade sales fell 7% in Q4 and were down 11% for the full year. Coach sales grew 14% and 23% over those periods.
Management has struggled to rejuvenate the Kate Spade brand, appointing a new creative director last month.

The handbag and accessories company delivered solid results in the fourth quarter with revenue up 9%, or 11% on a pro forma constant currency basis, which adjusts for the sale of Stuart Weitzman, to $1.88 billion, which essentially matched the consensus at $1.87 billion.
Coach, which makes up the vast majority of sales, was particularly strong with 14% constant-currency, and Tapestry delivered gross margin and operating margin expansion for both the quarter and the year. Kate Spade continued to struggle with revenue down 7%.

NC State's 24 hours of takeover time on the ACC Network begins tonight, or rather Thursday morning, depending on your perspective.
As college sports have been degraded over the years by the worst people you can imagine, I have more frequently come back to the question of why I care about them, especially now. The answer is actually obvious: it's because being a college sports fan is a vibrant experience, rather than a narrow one, and this has become more important to me the older I've gotten.
I love that we're good at a bunch of different things. I love that the ACC Network is going to re-run the cross country national championship. This can be a narrow existence if you want it to be, if football and basketball is all that gets you through. And there's nothing wrong with that. College sports let you choose your own adventure, and there are just so many, and that's the fun, enduring part for me. NC State has become a rich tapestry of adventures, all the time. I mean, look at all this:
NCSU ACC Takeover Schedule
Midnight – 3 a.m.: Miami vs. NC State (baseball)
3 a.m. – 5 a.m.: NCAA cross country national championships
5 a.m. – 8 a.m.: UNC vs. NC State (football)
8 a.m. – 10 a.m.: Louisville vs. NC State (softball)
10 a.m. – noon: South Carolina vs. NC State (volleyball)
Noon – 3 p.m.: FSU vs. NC State (football)
3 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Saint Louis vs. NC State (men's soccer, NCAA semifinal)
5 p.m. – 8 p.m.: TBD
8 p.m. – 10 p.m.: UNC vs. NC State (men's hoops)
10 p.m. – Midnight: Tennessee vs. NC State (women's hoops, NCAA tournament)

An 18-year-old in search of her first fancy handbag appears to be one of the biggest business drivers for Tapestry (TPR), owner of Coach and Kate Spade.
"The great news is that 25 million women in the markets where we serve today will turn 18 this year and every year for the next 10 years. So that provides a tremendous opportunity," Tapestry CEO Joanne Crevoiserat told Yahoo Finance at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity on Wednesday.
"Then we have to do the work to understand culture, understand the customer," she added. "An interesting insight is that a Gen Z consumer gives us about 60 seconds when they cross the threshold of a store to determine whether they want to be there. Sixty seconds is all we have to have that customer feel like it's a brand for them."
The data-loving Crevoiserat has emerged as one of the most successful leaders in modern luxury retail, transforming Tapestry through a disciplined focus on brand building, quality products, digital innovation, and consumer engagement.
Before her tenure at Tapestry, Crevoiserat served as chief operations officer at Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) and held senior leadership positions at Kohl's (KSS), Walmart (WMT), and May Department Stores.

David Hockney, who has died aged 88, was widely considered to have been Britain's greatest living artist, said The Daily Telegraph. Instantly recognisable, with his bleached-blond hair, round glasses, impish smile and "ever-smouldering cigarette", he was for decades a subject of fascination to the world's media, as Picasso had been a generation earlier. And just as Picasso once commented that he never produced a painting as a work of art – it was all research – Hockney was a man of restless curiosity, who for more than 60 years never stopped the process of experimentation and reinvention.
What drove him was an intense need to understand "the way the world works, how the eye sees it and how the brush sets it down", said Laura Freeman in The Times. "What happens when raindrops strike still water? Or a body breaks the surface of a swimming pool? How do you capture a glass of water, transparency on transparency, or shafts of sunlight on a polished parquet floor?"
He was a superb draughtsman, but there was no medium he would not try in his effort to depict the world as it is seen. He worked in oils, acrylics, watercolours, charcoal, pen and ink, pencil, felt-tips, crayons; he produced etchings and drypoints; and made use Polaroid cameras, Xerox photocopiers, inkjet printers and the iPad. His inspirations ranged from Monet to Chinese scrolls to the Bayeux Tapestry, and he found inspiration in everything California's epic landscapes to the graffiti in public lavatories.
He was fascinated by the mechanics of image-making, said Kelsey Ables in The Atlantic – and, as he put it, "any technology that is about pictures". In 2001, he published an art historical book in which he laid out his carefully researched but hotly debated theory that the likes of Caravaggio and van Eyck had used devices such as concave mirrors and projecting lenses to achieve realism.

Report: Mike Vrabel, Dianna Russini rented boat together in June 2021

It's impossible to know whether the situation involving Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Dianna Russini will result in Vrabel stepping down as coach of the Patriots (or, possibly, taking a leave of absence for the 2026 season), because it's always possible that more information will come to light.
More information has come to light.
TMZ reports that Vrabel and Russini rented a boat together in June 2021, in Tennessee. The report includes a copy of the waiver they both signed, and a photo taken by Vrabel with staff members at the boat rental company. (Russini, per the report, declined to be photographed with staff.)
In June 2021, Russini — who is married — was pregnant with her first child.
The new report adds to a tapestry of evidence that started with photos of Vrabel and Russini at an adults-only resort in Sedona, Arizona in March 2026. Later photos surfaced of Vrabel and Russini at a New York City bar in March 2020, and at a Mississippi casino in January 2024.
