Hayden Panettiere, the former child actress best known for her roles in TV series like "Heroes" and "Nashville," died on Sunday, Aug. 16 − and the news is hitting fans hard.
"I never cried so hard for a stranger in MY LIFE!!!" one user wrote on X.
On social media, tribute posts and comments of disbelief poured in. Panettiere, 36, also starred in "Ice Princess" alongside 2000s icon Michelle Trachtenberg, who died at 39 in 2025.
"First Michelle Trachtenberg now Hayden Panettiere I'm so sad I can't believe this my Ice Princesses both gone," posted another fan. "My brain and heart are still processing this. I can't believe she's no more," one user chimed in.
It's not unusual that Panettiere's death is affecting some fans so deeply. Celebrity deaths can feel personal, even if you never met the person. And while grief is different for everyone, experts say "collective" or "public grief" is a valid experience and can be exacerbated when the death of a public figure is learned unexpectedly in the news or on social media.

The idea of a Disney princess stirs up a certain image. Whether they're animated or live-action, Disney princesses are typically ******* ociated with glamorous, elaborate ballgowns, ultra-feminine silhouettes, and show-stopping accessories. Sometimes, the actors who bring these princesses to life fit the brief on the red carpet, channeling that regal energy. But other times, their real-life style takes a completely unexpected turn, away from the safe boundaries of Disney.
In most cases, actors who portray Disney princesses are expected to meet the royal brief on the red carpet at least while doing press for the movie. We saw this with Lily James, who transformed her public-facing style around 2015 to better embody her character of Cinderella. "Lily is a tomboy in the way that she dresses normally, and she wasn't fully into princess-ing it up as much as we have," her stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray told Fashionista that year. "We saw after everyone's reaction from the first dress in Berlin that people wanted to see Cinderella, so we decided to do a switcheroo with the dresses and really went for that enchanted princess theme." However, not long after the press surrounding the live-action remake of "Cinderella" died down, James cultivated a wardrobe that felt more authentic to her, swapping full skirts and whimsical details for bold cutouts and earthy palettes.
That said, some Disney actors maintain the fairy-tale-coded aesthetic for years, forever throwing it back on the red carpet to their princess characters. Both approaches can make for a high-fashion moment, whether the stars keep it magical or move into edgier territory. From Kristen Bell's stylish nods to "Frozen" to Anika Noni Rose's sculptural moment, these red-carpet looks are the best of the bunch.

With Queen Elizabeth's death in 2022, Queen Margrethe of Denmark became Europe's last reigning queen. Her abdication less than two years later marked the end of an era for Europe's female monarchs. While there are currently no women sitting on Europe's thrones, that will one day change. Waiting in the wings is a new generation of Princesses poised to become Queens Regnant.
Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria, Belgium's Princess Elisabeth, the Netherlands' Princess Catharina-Amalia and Spain's Princess Leonor are all first in line to their respective thrones, while Norway's Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Sweden's Princess Estelle are expected to succeed their respective parents in the future.
These Princess are the faces of the future, who will usher in a new era of Queens across Europe.
Born in 1977, Crown Princess Victoria is the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden's children. At the time of her birth, Sweden had an agnatic order of succession, meaning that the throne could only be inherited by males.
But in 1980, Sweden introduced absolute primogeniture, making Crown Princess Victoria the heir to the Swedish throne and moving her ahead of her younger brother, Prince Carl Philip.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor became a grandfather again following the news that his daughter Princess Eugenie welcomed her third child last week. However, the disgraced former Duke of York is reportedly 'unlikely' to see his newborn granddaughter, a royal author has claimed.
After being stripped of his royal **** les last year following renewed scrutiny over his links to convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew retreated from public life and has been living in exile on his brother King Charles' Sandringham estate. Meanwhile, his daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, have continued to lie low as they navigate the ongoing media scrutiny surrounding their father and mother, Sarah Ferguson.
"Relations with their father are particularly fractured and complex as daughters take on board each new disturbing disclosure about Andrew," Andrew Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise And Fall Of The House Of York, alleged to the Daily Mail.

Queen Elizabeth II was inseparable from her beloved corgis, and her cherished pet pooches even travelled by helicopter if required to accompany Her Majesty wherever she went. It was no secret that she spoiled the pets, treating them to chef-prepared meals and having their sheets inside their baskets changed daily, but Prince Harry has revealed another way they lived the high life…
In his memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex revealed that the dogs would happily join the Queen in her private lift up to her bedroom on a nightly basis. He wrote: "In the heart of this main chamber was the grand staircase. Sweeping, dramatic, seldom used. Whenever Granny headed up to her bedroom on the second floor, corgis at her heels, she preferred the lift. The corgis preferred it too."
The Queen owned more than 30 corgis in her lifetime and at any given point, she had up to ten! Princess Diana is said to have said the gathering of dogs around her feet was like "a moving carpet".
After the Queen died in 2022, her pets were bestowed to her son, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. They were given to them for a very specific reason, because it was their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who originally purchased the dogs. The princesses reportedly gifted their grandmother with Muick and Sandy to distract her from the stress of her husband, Prince Philip's, hospital stay in 2021.
After taking on the dogs, Sarah revealed that she felt they had psychic powers. "I have her dogs. I have her corgis. So every morning they come in and go, you know 'woof woof' and all that. I'm sure it's her talking to me."

Japan's Parliament voted Friday to enshrine male-only succession for the imperial throne, part of a monarchy that traces its origins back roughly 1,500 years.
Lawmakers did so by revising an Imperial House Law dating back to the 1800s, despite warnings from experts that limiting succession to men in the paternal line will hasten the decline of ******* an's shrinking and aging imperial family, according to the ******* ociated Press.
To address the dwindling number of eligible heirs, the revisions allow distant male relatives to be adopted into the imperial family to father future successors. However, strict rules remain in place limiting the throne to men with royal blood. The changes also allow princesses to retain their royal status after marrying commoners.
The new rules passed by Parliament come as many ******* anese had been calling for Princess Aiko, Emperor Naruhito's 24-year-old daughter, to be allowed to succeed him — now an impossibility.

A Florida woman spent seven years bringing Disney princesses to life at Walt Disney World — playing Ariel, Rapunzel, and Mary Poppins from ages 18 to 25. She loved the job. She also says she left it with permanent neck damage, a union grievance, and a final day she still isn't sure how to feel about.
In a viral TikTok that has since sparked a follow-up, the 28-year-old is finally telling her story three years later.
"Anyone will tell you — and there are people I used to work with that are on TikTok and they will tell you too — I should have quit way before I actually did," Katherine Randle (katherinejrandle) said.
The beginning of the end, Katherine explains, was a confluence of three things happening at once: she was disapproved out of Ariel (the character she was originally hired for and played for two years), the Mary Poppins meet-and-greet location was going down for refurbishment, and her body was breaking down from playing Rapunzel.
The Rapunzel costume requires performers to wear a long, heavy braid. Over time, she says the weight and positioning of that braid gave Katherine severe arthritis in her neck. She reports that she went to the company's athletic trainers, health services, workers' comp, temporary disapprovals, and physical therapy. All of it on the company's dime, she says. According to Katherine, nothing worked.

Sarah Ferguson and Prince William are reportedly locked in a bitter dispute. William is said to be "fuming" over the so-called "royal family leech" Fergie's alleged financial demands to King Charles, while Fergie is "raging" at William and blaming him for "poisoning" Charles against Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
"Sarah is raging about the way this has all unfolded and she blames William for poisoning the King against her girls," a source told Closer. "She says there's been a very deliberate effort to turn the tide against Eugenie and Beatrice and she believes William has been the driving force."
