With 8.5 million people spread over just 300 square miles, New York is the most populous city in America. Home to Broadway, Wall Street, the Met, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Comedy Cellar and, of course, the news media, New York is where the conversation starts and ends.

Los Angeles' Democratic mayoral candidates were torched by residents after a debate night in America's second-most populous city that one voter described as "disgraceful."
Besides being home to Hollywood, Los Angeles is one of America's most economically important cities. The city, however, has struggled with recent fires, rising living costs, homelessness and outmigration. Those problems have fueled a particularly contentious mayoral race this year, which included a surprisingly competitive but ultimately unsuccessful bid by Republican Spencer Pratt.
With Pratt out of the race, Democrats Karen Bass, the incumbent, and Nithya Raman, a democratic socialist city council member, are locked in a competitive and bitter runoff for Los Angeles mayor. During last week's debate, Bass and Raman traded personal attacks and insults, leaving some voters frustrated over what solutions the candidates could offer.
After the debate, voter Stacey Segarra Bohlinger told Fox News Digital she believes Bass and Raman are "both bad" and said, "I wish they could both lose."

The Buffalo Bills opened their brand new $2.2 billion Highmark Stadium on Saturday. And instead of wowing the NFL world, the stadium has been under the microscope for its shortcomings given the price tag.
And now, one of the lead architects behind the project has spoken out.
In the days since the Bills' Blue & Red practice, photos of obstructed-view seating throughout the 60,108-seat venue have been all over social media. In the photos, portions of the field were blocked by overhangs, sharp angles in the structure and even stairways with plexiglass barriers that led into the aisles.
The Bills released a statement on Monday about the stadium criticism. And at the time, the Kansas City-based architecture firm, Populous, declined comment to For The Win. On Wednesday, though, Jonathan Mallie — the managing director of Populous' Americas practice — called into Buffalo's WGR 550 to explain why the stairways were designed that way at Highmark Stadium.
Mallie said that there had to be a trade-off in order to provide 360-degree stadium views from the concourse:

HONG KONG/JOHOR, Malaysia, July 24 (Reuters) - After leapfrogging Singapore to become the region's fastest-growing data centre hub, Malaysia is facing intensifying scrutiny as the resources debate that has complicated the industry's growth spreads to emerging Asia.
Protests over a data centre complex in Johor state's southern tip — the epicentre of the boom — were the first of their kind in the country. In Selangor, the richest and most populous state, debate about the burden on communities has become politicised.
"Two years ago, it was just about building capacity," said Cheam Tat Inn, managing director at the Malaysian arm of U.S. data centre operator Equinix.
"The conversation today is more like, How will you use power? Are you looking at renewables? They want to see how you're going to grow sustainably and responsibly."

July 18 (Reuters) - Ontario Premier Doug Ford said U.S. criticism of Canadian efforts to stop the "terrible scenario" of spreading forest fires in his province and choking smoke across a broad swath of the United States was "absolutely unacceptable."
"We're trying to get through this," Ford said on Saturday, adding that if the situation were reversed and the U.S. were facing wildfires, "we're going to be down there to support our neighbors."
President Donald Trump blamed what he called incompetent Canadian forest management for the smoke and said on Friday he would add the "incalculable cost" of dealing with the pollution to existing tariffs on Canadian goods. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Ford's remarks.
Ford said at a press briefing that 655,000 hectares (1.6 million acres) of forest were burning across Ontario, Canada's most populous province.

At this summer’s World Cup, African national teams have soared higher than ever before, whilst for some European and South American teams it has been a case of “business as usual”.
But for national teams from Asia, most disappeared without a trace after the group phase.
The tournament hardly got off to an auspicious start for Asia, with both China and India yet again failing to qualify for world soccer’s biggest spectacle.
The two most populous countries in the world have an abysmal World Cup qualifying record: China has qualified only once (in 2002), and India has never qualified directly (it secured a place in the 1950 edition but then withdrew).

Uzbekistan plays the first World Cup match in its history Wednesday against Colombia at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The central Asian nation waited decades for this moment, and its arrival has many U.S. fans scratching their heads, pulling out maps and wondering where they will find Uzbekistan.
So, here is what to know:
Uzbekistan sits in the heart of Central Asia, north of Afghanistan and bordering Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. It is one of only two countries on Earth where you have to cross two borders to reach the ocean. About 37 million people live there, making it the most populous country in the region. The capital is Tashkent.
The official language is Uzbek, a Turkic language related to Turkish and written today in a Latin-based alphabet. Russian is still widely spoken there, a holdover from the decades Uzbekistan spent inside the Soviet Union. Tajik, a form of Persian, is common in the old cities of Samarkand and Bukhara.
Long before soccer, Uzbekistan was the crossroads of the Silk Road. Samarkand and Bukhara were among the most important trading cities in the world, where caravans moving between China and Europe met for centuries. The turquoise domes of Samarkand's Registan Square remain one of the most recognizable sights in Asia. The region was also the seat of Tamerlane, the 14th century conqueror who built a vast empire and made Samarkand its glittering capital.

GENERAL SANTOS, Philippines (AP) — Rescuers searched ruined buildings in the southern Philippines on Tuesday to ensure no one was still trapped a day after one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the country in a half-century killed at least 37 people and displaced more than 20,000.
Only four people were considered missing on official records in the southern provinces near where the 7.8 magnitude quake struck Monday morning, but the Office of Civil Defense acknowledged several collapsed and heavily damaged buildings must be thoroughly inspected for possible survivors or casualties.
The earthquake centered off Mindanao, the second most populous Philippine island, injured nearly 500 people and displaced more than 20,000, most of whom fled to emergency shelters.
Many people who left their homes feared a tsunami. Waves up to 1.4-meter (4.6-foot) above tide level were measured in the Philippines, but the only tsunami damage reported was to six shanties on stilts in a coastal village. The earthquake left a trail of destruction, including in General Santos, a lively coastal city of more than 700,000 people known as the country's tuna capital, where at least 13 people were killed in collapsed buildings and due to falling debris.
