We asked for your views on Manchester United heading into the new season and whether more reinforcements are needed.
Here are some of your comments:
Ian: We have not increased our depth in midfield, only replaced what we have lost (Casemiro/Ugarte). We have woefully inadequate cover for injuries and our lone striker has not figured since the end of last season. All of Carrick's great work of last year will be lost if we do not support him better and give him adequate tools to complete his task. It will be the hope that kills us.
Nigel: I am concerned with United's lack of urgency in the transfer market. However, if the hierarchy is reluctant to sanction funds to bring players in, then Carrick will have to turn to our talented academy players. Some might think this is not a good idea but can I remind you of the famous Alan Hansen comment, "you won't win anything playing kids"? Look how that turned out. Give them a chance.

Mansfield Town have completed the signing of defender Owen Dodgson on a season-long loan from fellow League One club Stockport County.
The 23-year-old made 25 appearances in all competitions for the Hatters last season as they ended the campaign beaten finalists in the League One play-off final at Wembley.
Dodgson can play as a left-back, left wing-back or in a defensive midfield role.
He becomes Nigel Clough's fifth signing of the summer window, joining former Barnsley pair David McGoldrick and Jon Russell, as well as Michael Smith and Liam Thompson through the door at Field Mill.
"Mansfield are a club which has progressed year-upon-year in recent seasons and after speaking with the gaffer it was a really straight forward decision to join until the end of the season," Dodgson told Mansfield's website.

The Oklahoma Sooners' defensive front seven has become one of the best in college football after a disruptive and productive 2025. Despite the losses of Gracen Halton, Damonic Williams, Marvin Jones, Jr., and R Mason Thomas, there's an expectation that the unit will once again be one of the best in the sport.
CBS Sports ranked their top front-sevens in college football, and the Sooners came in at No. 1 in the nation.
Oklahoma's front seven is led by All-SEC second-team defensive end Taylor Wein and preseason All-SEC selection David Stone at defensive tackle. Fellow defensive tackle Jayden Jackson will play a huge role for the Sooners and be as impactful as anyone on OU's defense.
The Sooners need guys like Nigel Smith, Trent Wilson, Bishop Thomas, and James Carrington to raise the talent floor in the defensive tackle rotation. Smith, Wilson, and Carrington were four-star prospects coming out of high school and have the talent and ability to be disruptive in Oklahoma's defense. But they haven't played meaningful snaps at the collegiate level.
To round out the starting lineup, a competition between Adepoju Adebawore, Danny Okoye, Kenny Ozowalu, and others will determine the snap distribution opposite Wein. But in Brent Venables' defense, you can expect the defensive line to make plays in the backfield throughout the 2026 season. There may not be an answer, but the Sooners like the talent they have to work with in 2026.

Gold prices posted impressive weekly gains last week, fostering hope for better things for the commodity in the second half of 2026, following a trying first half of the year. Of course, a more substantive rally will benefit ETFs such as the WisdomTree Efficient Gold Plus Equity Strategy Fund (GDE). The actively managed ETF combines exposure to gold futures and large-cap domestic stocks. As some experts point out, bullion could be primed for a bounce, potentially benefiting GDE along the way, because markets may have mispriced the extent to which the Federal Reserve can be hawkish this year.
A prime example of that mispricing may well be the June jobs report, out last week. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't as strong as expected, indicating that the Fed may do well to consider lowering borrowing costs. At a minimum, a slow jobs market makes it difficult for the central bank to consider tightening, which would pinch gold prices.
When interest rates are high, gold suffers because bonds look more attractive by comparison. Perhaps to the delight of GDE investors, that situation could change for the better in the second half.
"I think markets have fundamentally mispriced the Fed's next move," said deVere Group CEO Nigel Green. "The consensus view has become dangerously one-dimensional. "Investors have spent months pricing for a world of persistently high rates, a strong dollar and continued economic resilience. The risk now is that this entire framework begins to unravel."

Kate Middleton reportedly crossed paths with ex Rupert Finch at Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling's wedding. The ceremony was held on June 6 at All Saints' Church in Kemble, Gloucestershire. Netizens raised their eyebrows when Middleton's former boyfriend attended the event with his wife, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs.
Kate Middleton ended up crossing paths with her ex-boyfriend, Rupert Finch, at Peter Phillips' wedding. Finch showed up at the ceremony with his wife, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs. The couple was dressed to the nines, with Finch donning a traditional black suit and Issacs looking gorgeous in a breezy floral dress with a white hat and toe pumps.
Meanwhile, Vogue reported that Middleton wore a blush-hued, knee-length dress from Roland Mouret that had drop-waist pleating and a ******* on-down notched collar. The princess paired it with drop earrings by Kiki McDonough, a hat by Jane Taylor, Gianvito Rossi shoes, and a Nigel Milne Birthright three-strand pearl bracelet that previously belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
For the unversed, Middleton and Finch reportedly dated for under a year in 2001. However, they always remained tight-lipped about their relationship. "It's not something I'll ever talk about. It's between Kate and me and was a long time ago," Finch once stated (via Daily Mail). Despite the breakup, the pair reportedly never had bad blood between them. Moreover, Finch attended Middleton's wedding with Prince William in 2011. Their romance was also shown onscreen in the final season of "The Crown." Oli Green and Meg Bellamy played Finch and Middleton, respectively.
Tatler gave details about the relationship in 2023 during the release of the Netflix show's final season. "Finch was considered the ultimate catch by Kate's friends," the outlet said. "At the time of the fashion show, he was reportedly her casual boyfriend and a tall, dark and handsome aspiring lawyer in his fourth year at St Andrews. The pair had reportedly met as students in the St Andrews' halls of residence and were together for just under a year in 2001."

Nigel Osmond has managed about 28 walking footballers at Portishead Town FC, near Bristol, in weekly sessions since May last year.
On Saturday, teams from across the country played in the first South West Parkinson's walking football festival.
Osmond said: "They've had a new lease of life. The benefits to them are starting to come out now. I don't want to ask too much, I just want to make sure it's fun for them."
UK-wide, more than 166,000 people are thought to be living with the disease, which impacts mobility, speech, focus, sleep and independence. There is currently no cure.

Rift grows between Trump and European far-right over Greenland plan

What did Nigel Farage accuse Keir Starmer of in the Daily Express?
How is Brexit affecting UK-EU economic relations under Starmer?
Why did UK reject EU defense fund negotiations?
Keir Starmer faces a major voter backlash after insisting Britain must keep moving towards closer ties with the EU. The Prime Minister reignited old grievances as he again tried to pin the blame on Brexit for the country’s lacklustre economic performance since Labour came to power.

The former Marine sniper accused of a mass shooting and the warning signs that came before
Marc Simmons hadn’t heard from his estranged friend in nearly seven years. Then, Nigel Max Edge showed up at his work and falsely accused Simmons of stealing his identity.
They met taking community college classes and bonded over their time with the Marines in Iraq. Simmons’ kids once called Edge “Uncle Sean” — back when his name was still Sean William DeBevoise.
Simmons was now terrified his old friend would retaliate against him, he told a judge.

When Nigel Morris tells you he’s worried about the economy, you listen. As industry observers know, Morris co-founded Capital One and pioneered lending to subprime borrowers, building an empire on understanding exactly how much financial stress the average American can handle. Now, as an early investor in Klarna and other buy-now-pay-later companies like Aplazo in Mexico, he’s watching something that makes him deeply uncomfortable.
