Céline Dion says she took high doses of Valium to cope during one period of her battle against stiff-person syndrome.
Dion was diagnosed with the rare autoimmune neurological disorder in August 2022 and went public with the news in December.
"I don't like to say 'disease,'' Dion said of her condition, noting that she has progressed to a point where she can now do Pilates.
Céline Dion is a fighter. But even the "My Heart Will Go On" icon needs a little help sometimes.
In 2022, Dion was diagnosed with the autoimmune neurological disorder stiff-person syndrome, a rare condition that does not have a cure and is progressive, which means symptoms intensify over time.

Céline Dion suffered symptoms for nearly two decades before she was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022.
In an interview for the September 2026 issue of Harper's Bazaar, the Canadian superstar recalled how she often experienced severe pain and inability to walk for many years.
"It is a progressive condition. I don't like to say 'disease,'" she told the outlet, before describing how she decided to speak about the health crisis in her 2024 documentary, I Am: Celine Dion. "(The fans) paid for tickets. They bought my records. They gave me that luxury. So the least I can do is tell them that I'm alive."
Stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is a rare neurological disorder characterised by muscular rigidity.
Following the diagnosis, Céline embarked on a course of rehabilitation, which included new medication, physical therapy, and immunotherapy.
In the lead-up to her upcoming residency at the Plenitude Arena in Paris, France, the My Heart Will Go On hitmaker shared that she has been doing regular Pilates sessions to help maintain her mobility.

(NewsNation) — ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a fatal neurological disease with no cure. For people who carry genetic mutations linked to the disease, one of the biggest challenges is not knowing when symptoms might begin.
New research funded by the National Institutes of Health could help change that.
Researchers have developed a blood test that may predict when an at-risk person is likely to develop ALS symptoms, providing a potential window for preventive treatment before irreversible nerve damage occurs.
The study identified protein markers in the blood that can help predict the onset of symptoms, a transition known as phenoconversion.
Dr. Anthony Youn says popular peptides 'aren't studied enough' in humans

Kylie Vincent's multiple sclerosis symptoms were initially misdiagnosed as a UTI despite her severe neurological issues
She struggled to advocate for herself in the hospital while facing a "terrifying" new diagnosis
Vincent turned to stand-up comedy to cope with her diagnosis and connect with others facing similar challenges
A woman is detailing the "psychological torture" she experienced after her multiple sclerosis symptoms were dismissed as a UTI.
Kylie Vincent, a 26-year-old comedian from Los Angeles, was filming an independent short film in late January when her symptoms began. She noticed a "tingling and numbness" in her left hand, but initially brushed it off. The following week, she went to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where things quickly escalated.

The High Court has been told that hundreds of cases in rugby's multi-million-pound concussion legal action should be thrown out.
Players from both codes of the sport claim that the authorities failed to put safeguards in place to protect them from the consequences of repeated head impacts.
World Rugby, the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Rugby Football League (RFL) deny breaching a duty of care to protect the players from injury.
Lawyers representing the governing bodies have argued that claims should be thrown out due to documents surrounding the neurological testing process not being disclosed, which they claim is a breach of a 2024 court order.

The news that 39-year-old former NFL running back Chris Johnson has ALS has reignited the discussion about the risks of playing football, and recent research puts into focus just how significant the link between playing in the NFL and developing ALS at a young age appears to be.
The Concussion & CTE Foundation said today that it has identified 10 NFL players since 1960 who died of ALS before the age of 50. ALS is typically a disease ******* ociated with aging, and it is extraordinarily rare in the general population for people to die of the disease before age 50. The same study says that based on population models, there should have been fewer than one NFL player since 1960 who died of ALS before age 50: Mathematically, the expected number would be 0.24 ALS deaths before age 50 out of a sample the size of the 19,824 NFL players whose health records were studied.
The study did not name all 10 players who have died of ALS, but some former NFL players who have been publicly identified as dying of ALS before turning 50 include 49ers linebacker Eric Scoggins at age 49, Patriots and Eagles running back Kevin Turner at age 46, Vikings defensive back Orlando Thomas at age 42 and Oilers defensive tackle Glenn Montgomery at age 31.
Dr. Daniel Daneshvar, a co-author of the study, said the findings are alarming.
"ALS deaths among former NFL players, particularly those who die at younger ages, are occurring far more often than could possibly be expected by chance," he said. "These findings are deeply concerning and underscore the urgent need to understand how repetitive head impacts and motor neuron disease may be connected. We must translate this knowledge into action by helping former players access specialized neurological care and accelerate research toward treatments and prevention. Every ALS diagnosis is devastating, and this data strengthens our responsibility to act with urgency.”

Former Tigers point guard Rod Hall is recovering after suffering a medical emergency during an alumni game at his high school, according to a GoFundMe shared by his family. Hall’s family said the 33-year-old has been diagnosed with a “serious neurological condition” and is asking for support as he continues his recovery.
Hall played for Clemson from 2011 to 2015 and became one of the steadier guards of the early Brad Brownell era. Hall brought toughness, defense, and physicality.
Hall had already played in 98 games and logged 2,636 minutes by Junior year. He led Clemson’s active players at the time with 642 career points and 287 **** ists, while starting all 36 games during the 2013-14 season.
Hall averaged a career-high 9.7 points per game that year, led Clemson with 143 **** ists and reached double figures 21 times after doing so only four times over his first two seasons. He also helped Clemson lead the ACC in free-throw percentage for the first time in program history.
He had ice in his veins in the big moments as he scored 20 points in a win over NC State, had 18 against SMU in the NIT semifinals, and put up 16 points in a double-overtime win over Maryland, including 10 in the two overtime periods.

Danny Glover has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
The veteran actor and film producer, who turns 80 on 22 July, was diagnosed in 2022, months after receiving an honorary Oscar in recognition of his decades-long global activism for justice and human rights.
Speaking to the Today show's Lester Holt on Wednesday, Glover discussed living with the condition.
"I can live with it in a sense," he said. "I'm sure as it advances, different things will be different and changing."
However, the Lethal Weapon star emphasised that, despite the progression of the neurological disease, he remains committed to engaging with younger generations on social justice issues.
"A big deal is talking to young people and their responsibility," he told Holt. "(I have) a lot to learn, as well."

Microplastics may be burrowing into arteries and triggering heart disease, especially in men, according to a new study.
Tiny plastic particles varying in size from about a thousandth of a millimetre to five millimetres are ubiquitous today, present in food, water and air. They are known to enter the bloodstream and even lodge into vital organs.
They are implicated in a range of health conditions, from hormonal disruption, impaired reproduction, neurological damage, cancer, and heart ailments.
In the case of heart diseases, however, it remains unclear whether these particles actively damage

The human brain is not a hard-wired machine but a malleable organ that is regularly re-shaping itself.
Neuroscientists at the University of Cambridge in the UK and the University of Pittsburgh in the US have now identified four major turning points in brain wiring between birth and death.
Like chapters of our lives, each of these neurological 'epochs' marks a new era of development or decline.
"Looking back, many of us feel our lives have been characterized by different phases," says senior author and neuroinformaticist Duncan Astle from Cambridge.
"It turns out that brains also go through
