The Twin Cities injected some excitement into the late season last week, and there was good news for former Bulldogs to boot. First, Tour rookie (I mean like 24 days since turning pro) Jackson Koivun won the 3M Open in his 3rd start as a professional and 7th time playing a Tour event (he played several as an amateur and based on his NCAA Championship). He beat everyone not named Scottie Scheffler by 5 shots, and held off the world #1 in the process. His incredible collegiate career at Auburn was not a fluke, unlike their academic credentials.
For the boys in red & black: Keith Mitchell finished in a tie for 44th, so his position in the FedEx Cup points did not change. Chris Kirk got to 12 under par, and the T31 finish ***** ped him up 3 spots to 143rd in the FedEx. But he'll need a VERY high finish the next two weeks to get into the post-season. David Thompson got a much-needed top 10 (T7) and that moved him up to 93rd position – still outside the top 70 but do now he has an outside chance to advance.
And Brian Harman played the final day alongside Scottie Scheffler and for the most part kept up with him. Harman shot a Sunday 65 and got a T3 – and those points ***** ped him from the dangerous 74th spot to a more comfortable 62nd spot. So let's see what's on tap this week.

Every start of preseason we make it clear that these games are nothing more than fitness preparation for the squad. However when you give playing time for several young players like we did today, you have to keep your eyes peeled for what may come next.
One of those young'uns, Dastan Satpayev, had some eyes set on him and showed why that was the case. A good run from Ryan Kavuma-McQueen's pass to break the offside trap from the hosts at Accor Stadium in Sydney and the Kazakh international scored not even 10 minutes into the match.
While offensively the Blues were very promising, the combination of Tosin Adarabioyo and 18-year-old centre-back Olutayo Subuloye in defence didn't make it for solid defending. In spite of Teddy Sharman-Lowe's best efforts to organise his teammates in a corner kick, he couldn't do much to avoid giving Western Sydney Wanderers the tying goal.
It didn't help that midfielders Reggie Watson and Dário Essugo weren't in the kind of rhythm needed to control action in their sector. The hosts were thus able to attack at whim with little to no counterpart offered by Chelsea, who had instead to keep defending against a barrage of shots from the Wanderers.
Unsurprisingly the hosts got in front via Aydan Hammond, with defence once again not covering themselves in glory. What was surprising, was Chelseaying at 2-2 with Dário Essugo ***** isted by Reggie Walsh on a Satpayev play and pass from the left flank.

Only three weeks remain in the regular season of the FedEx Cup; only 70 players move on to the playoffs. Heading into this week's 3M Open, Keegan Bradley and Brian Harman are among the 22 players that made the playoffs last season and are currently outside the top 70 of the 2026 FedExCup standings. Bradley, who ranks 77th, made it all the way to East Lake and the Tour Championship and had done so three straight seasons, finishing 16th while Harman, currently No. 78, wasn't far behind him at No. 18. Both are in the field this week at TPC Twin Cities and looking to improve their position. The group is led by three past champions: Jacksonville native David Duval (2001, Royal Lytham and St. Annes), Cameron Smith of Ponte Vedra Beach (2022, St. Andrews) and Brian Harman of St. Simons Island, Ga. (2023, Royal Liverpool).
Duval, now with the PGA Tour Champions, will make his 25th start in the Open, and his first since 2022. Harman, Harris English of St. Simons Island and Billy Horschel of Ponte Vedra Beach are all making their 11th starts in golf's oldest championship.
At the other end of the experience spectrum will be Nease graduate Marcus Plunkett, who has been playing on the Asian Tour, Michael Brennan of Jacksonville and Michael Thorbjornsen of Jacksonville. They are playing in their first British Open and in Plunkett's case, his first major.

Lord's finally opened its doors to women's Test cricket last Friday, 142 years after the ground hosted its first men's Test in 1884. A parade of some 50 former England players rang the five-minute bell, and portraits of pioneers were unveiled in the Long Room beforehand.
The occasion demanded a performance worthy of it, and India duly delivered one. Harmanpreet Kaur's side seized control during the opening session and never once surrendered it, outplaying the hosts comprehensively across every discipline over four sun-drenched days in St John's Wood.
The result also carried enormous weight for England. They have not beaten India in a women's Test since 1995, and the manner of this thrashing, arriving five days after their T20 World Cup final heartbreak at the very same venue, made for a brutal fortnight.

Today in Boston Celtics history, Frank Vernon Ramsey Jr. was born in Corydon, Kentucky, in 1931. As a young athlete, Ramsey took part in a number of sports at the collegiate level, but excelled in basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats in the NCAA ranks. The Corydon native played baseball as well as basketball under famed Kentucky coach Adolph Rupp, and later helped his Wildcats roster win an NCAA ***** le in 1951 over the Kansas State Wildcats. Kentucky then got the so-called “death penalty” due to a point-shaving scandal that rocked the school and the sport and dominated the news cycle. (Ramsey and Lou Tsioropoulos were not among those accused.)
That point-shaving scandal rocked the game to its core, and ended the senior season for the Kentuckian and one of his future teammates on the Celtics as well, Tsioropoulos, as well as Cliff Hagan, another future NBAer. The trio graduated in 1953 and were all drafted by Boston (Hagan would later be dealt to another team), Ramsey going fifth overall. With a year of eligibility left, the trio then returned to Kentucky despite having been drafted by Boston (Hagan never played for the Celtics, his rights dealt for Bill Russell), winning all 25 of their regular-season games and finishing the campaign ranked No. 1 nationally.
The Wildcats declined their NCAA invite, however — rules in that era forbade graduate students from playing in the tourney.
Ramsey’s career with Boston was interrupted by military service after his rookie campaign of 1954-55, but he won his — and the Celtics’ — first ***** le in 1957. He won six more consecutively beginning the season after the next spanning 1959-64 in what he would help pioneer as a role in the NBA — a sixth man — and garnered a Hall of Fame nod some years after retiring from the sport as a player in 1981. Ramsey tried his hand at head coaching briefly in the NBA’s chief rival league at that time, the American Basketball ***** ociation (ABA — it merged with the NBA in 1978).
At the helm of his hometown Kentucky Colonels, Ramsey’s squad would make it to the ABA Finals, where the Colonels would fall to the Utah Stars, coached by Ramsey’s former teammate Bill Sharman. The Celtics star passed away at the age of 86 at home after a post-basketball career as a bank president -- rest in peace.

India Women moved to the brink of a historic maiden Test victory at Lord's after a dominant third day, powered by Yastika Bhatia's record-breaking maiden century before the bowlers reduced England to 130/6 in pursuit of an improbable 457-run target.

NEW DELHI: India have handed Priya Punia her maiden Test call-up after opener Pratika Rawal was ruled out of the one-off women's Test against England at Lord's with a knee injury.

The Women's Selection Committee named Punia as Rawal's replacement after the opener failed to recover in time for the match, which begins on Friday.

Rawal suffered a cut around her right knee while playing for India A in the second One-Day match against England A in Taunton. The injury required stitches, forcing her to miss the Lord's Test.

Head coach Amol Muzumdar confirmed the news ahead of the match.

"Pratika has been ruled out of the Test match due to her injury in the India A match. She has got a cut on her knee which required some stitches. She is out for the Test match and Priya Punia has been added into the squad," said Muzumdar.
Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Priya Punia is a right-handed top-order batter who can also bowl right-arm medium pace. The 29-year-old has represented India in limited-overs cricket but is yet to make her Test debut.

Punia made her international debut in a T20I against New Zealand on February 6, 2019. Since then, she has represented India in both ODIs and T20Is.

Punia's selection for the one-off Test against England comes on the back of an excellent series for India A against England A.

She scored 23 in the opening match before following it up with 87 and 61 in the next two games. She finished as India A's highest run-scorer in the three-match One-Day series with 171 runs and played a key role in India's 2-1 series victory.
So far, Punia has played 12 Women's ODIs, scoring 273 runs at an average of 27.30. Her highest score is an unbeaten 75, and she has hit two half-centuries in the format.

In T20 Internationals, she has featured in three matches, scoring nine runs.

On the heels of questionable behavior from fans towards Wyndham Clark at the U.S. Open, the R&A announced Wednesday that a code of conduct will be enforced at this year’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
With a crowd of 300,000 expected to visit the Southport, England venue next week, the protocol “aims to ensure that players, spectators, volunteers, officials, staff and the local community can enjoy a welcoming, inclusive and memorable experience.” The guidelines will be outlined to fans through on-site signage, digital channels and ticket communications.
At last month’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, the Long Island galleries were occasionally hostile to Clark during Sunday’s final round. MUMBAI: The two T20Is against India will begin at 1.30 pm local time, which is 6 pm IST, in a bid to avoid an overlap with the crucial India versus Australia clash in the 2026 Women's World Cup at Lord's on Sunday, it is learnt.

"It was simply a factor we considered," a Cricket Ireland official told TOI on Thursday. Normally, T20 internationals involving India start at 7 pm IST, but on this occasion the start time has been advanced by an hour to account for Harmanpreet Kaur & Co's key game against Australia in the Women's World Cup, which is scheduled to begin at 7 pm IST. The two-match T20I series between India and Ireland in Belfast will involve games on Friday and Sunday.

The five T20Is in England that follow immediately after the Ireland series have varying start times. Three games, in Chester-le-Street, Nottingham and Bristol, are scheduled to begin at 10 pm IST. While two of the matches will begin at the traditional 7 pm IST slot, the second T20I in Manchester on July 4 and the fifth in Southampton on July 11, the T20I series will be followed by three ODIs, all of which are slated to begin at the customary 3.30 pm IST.

This is the first time that India will play T20Is in Belfast. In 2007, they played three ODIs against South Africa and one against Ireland in Belfast. In recent years, however, India have toured only Dublin, where they have played six T20Is, two each in 2018, 2022 and 2023, winning all six matches.
