Motorsport is a dangerous game. It always has been, and it always will be. Thankfully, over the last two to three decades, deaths in racing have been mercifully low. Yet some crashes, as horrific as they are, can change the sport forever, as did one back in ****** an in 1998.
YouTuber Josh Revell recently covered the crash in a brilliant video. It took place at Fuji Speedway in 1998, with the series being the All ****** an Grand Touring Car Championship. The series today is known as Super GT.
It was, and still is, one of the premier sports car racing series in the world. But in 1998, the round at Fuji Speedway, held in the shadow of Mount Fuji, was to take place in horrible weather conditions. And we mean horrible. It was wet, misty, and visibility was at a premium.

The new-look Mililani Trojans turned to some old staples to rally for a 31-24 win over Nevada powerhouse Liberty on a soggy Friday night at John Kauinana Stadium.
Trailing 24-14 at the half with electrifying new wide receiver Zion White sidelined by an ankle injury, Mililani's defense came up with two fourth-down stops. A crucial 35-yard strike from new quarterback Hunter Fujikawa to Bless Cabrera-Hopkins set up a 1-yard TD run by Toa Sam to give the Trojans a 31-24 lead with 2:10 remaining.
Liberty's dangerous offense was ready for a down-to-the-wire finish, but Mililani defensive lineman Lincoln Uiagalelei read a middle-screen pass and came up with the interception to seal the win with 1:21 left.
"He still has never dropped a pass," Cabrera-Hopkins said, referring to his TD pass to Uiagalelei last year.

Mililani collected nine of 13 first-place votes to claim the No. 1 ranking in the first Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10 of the season.
The Trojans are stoked about the arrival of two major offensive playmakers: quarterback Hunter Fujikawa and wide receiver Zion White. The two played together as sophomores at Punahou in 2024. White transferred to IMG Academy as a junior, but returned to the islands this year.

Haeran Ryu has her first major championship, winning the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — China's newest and most powerful of its three aircraft carriers sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, the Taiwanese defense ministry said, a day after Taiwan began a five-day military exercise on responding to a Chinese attack.
The Fujian carrier first sailed through the narrow body of water separating China and Taiwan in a trial run last September. It later transited the strait for the first time as a fully commissioned military vessel in December.
China claims the self-governed island as part of its territory and has not ruled out the use of force to bring it under Beijing's control. China regularly sends navy vessels and war planes towards Taiwan in military exercises that have become more frequent in recent years to where they now occur almost daily.
Taiwan on Monday kicked off its own five-day exercise to support its response in case of a possible Chinese military invasion.
The U.S. Navy sends warships through the strait periodically, as do some of its allies, in a warning to Beijing against any attempt to use force to establish its claim to the island.
