Channing Tatum admitted that fatherhood sometimes forced him to drop the superhero act. The actor opened up about vulnerability after premiering Josephine at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The 46-year-old star played a father confronting trauma alongside his young daughter. His character's struggle also pushed Tatum to reflect on his relationship with his daughter, Everly.
PEOPLE reported that Tatum discussed fatherhood during a TIFF Q&A. He played Damien, a father trying to help his eight-year-old daughter after a traumatic event. Damien encouraged his daughter to learn self-defense while his wife, Claire, took another approach. The role apparently mirrored Tatum's own instinct to protect Everly from life's harder moments.
"It's a really tough thing to tell the little being that you love more than anything," Tatum said during the Q&A. He admitted he once told Everly, "I'm just not okay right now." The actor explained that parents often want children to see them as invincible. "You always wanna be like the strongest person, like the Superman in their life," he said. "Sometimes you just can't."
Tatum shares Everly with ex-wife Jenna Dewan. The former couple welcomed her in 2013 before separating in 2018. He had also recently reflected on how quickly Everly grew up. During a January appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Tatum described returning from a two-week press trip.

"When he's running a route, you can throw it out there and he'll turn it on. We talk about it in the meeting room. Go make him run 100 meters to catch the ball." King's average target depth is 21 yards. He has catch-and-dashes of 46, 42 and 34 yards. The Aggies have sets of four and five receivers or up to two tight ends. Running back James Jones has no fumbles or negative-yard rushes in 30 carries. Jones also is an effective blocker who can roll into the flats. Hedden is 80% accurate on screens, hitches and check-down throws. "The quarterback in this offense is really a distributor," Hedden said. "We really focus on the things we're good at, and we repeat those things, and find new ways to do those things every week. It's really been a lot of fun to play in this offense with these coaches."
The Aggies' base is chaos, with shifts, movements and glove-to-glove combat in the trenches and running lanes. "When things get so cranky, like how many blitzes and stunts, it looks like Star Wars to us," weakside linebacker Sone Aupiu said. His first two NMSU seasons, Aupiu played middle linebacker. He moved to will linebacker last year but still trains at all second-tier positions, including jack, the stand-up edge defender. Helped by playing on the narrow side of the formation, Aupiu has freedom to jump lanes. "When it comes to gap schemes, that's what I love," he said. "Coming my way to the boundary, I'm looking to hit 'em." His father grew up in Samoa, his mother in New Zealand, where rugby was the favored sport. He said he aspires to play professional rugby. Jeremy Shockey spent his NFL career determined not to let fatherhood interfere with football. More than two decades later, the former New York Giants tight end has had a major change of heart.
Shockey, 45, revealed on the Sunday, August 2 episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast that he underwent a vasectomy at just 21 years old, shortly after entering the NFL.
He has since had the procedure reversed and told host and fellow ex-NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe, 58, that he wants to have children of his own.
That desire is a far cry from where Shockey's head was at when the Giants drafted him 14th overall in 2002. He opted to get the procedure early in his NFL career, explaining that fatherhood simply didn't fit the life he was building. Justin Theroux ordered custom-made scrubs to wear to the hospital for his son's birth.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, guest host Ike Barinholtz asked his Running Point co-star about the arrival of his first child.
Justin and his wife, actress Nicole Brydon Bloom, tied the knot in March 2025 and welcomed their son - whose name has not yet been announced - in April.
"It's the best," he said of fatherhood, before reflecting on preparing for the birth. "I think I was very helpful, in the whole process. My wife was incredibly helpful... She was great in the setup of it... we had our go bags, all that stuff. I was more worried about, sort of, what I was going to wear."
The Leftovers star went on to recall how he decided to wear scrubs while Nicole was giving birth.
"I mean, in all seriousness, it's not about me. So, I went ahead and I Googled and I got these scrubs (from FIGS Scrubs). I had scrubs made with my name on it and I had the little cap like Noah Wyle wears in (HBO hospital drama) The Pitt. I just wanted to blend in; I didn't want to make this about me. Ryan Armour has seen plenty of competition the past two years. It just hasn't been him out there.
