BATAM, Indonesia (AP) — The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln sailed past Singapore early on Sunday as it headed home after a grueling deployment in the Middle East. It's expected to stop in Thailand for a port visit.
Associated Press journalists on the Indonesian island of Batam, across the Singapore Strait, spotted the massive vessel as it transited waters near Singapore just after 1 a.m. local time.
The Lincoln, one of the U.S. Navy's largest warships, was supporting the U.S. war against Iran. Its deployment included a record-setting uninterrupted time at sea of more than 250 days. Concerns have grown about the Lincoln's lengthy deployment following reports of deteriorating mental health among the crew and shortages of supplies including food and hygiene products.
Thai officials have said the Lincoln will stop in Thailand for rest and recovery before returning to its U.S. base.

Creative Community for Peace, the Hollywood-based pro-Israel advocacy group, said enough is enough and called for a Mark Ruffalo boycott following his "antisemitic" remarks against the Ellison family and their pending Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger.
After the Marvel actor's incendiary comments against the deal on Friday — in which he drew a line from David and Larry Ellison's Oracle ties to what he called Israel's "genocide" in Gaza — the long-running entertainment nonprofit called on Hollywood to rescind their support of Ruffalo and his work until he apologizes and retracts his statements.
"Mark Ruffalo's rhetoric has increasingly crossed the line from criticism of Israel into extremist and antisemitic messaging," CCFP Executive Director Ari Ingel said in a statement Saturday.
Ingel added that his argument against Paramount's merger "increasingly fuses hostility toward Israel and Zionism with Jewish-associated wealth, media ownership, oligarchic power and ominous warnings about concentrated control into a single narrative."
"Those echoes are impossible to ignore. Hollywood should not accept this kind of rhetoric from anyone. Mark Ruffalo should retract these remarks and apologize, and ****** ody in Hollywood should platform him until he does."

A US Air Force flight bound for Antarctica returned to New Zealand after a warning about "potentially hazardous" ***** e activity, according to New Zealand authorities.
A spokesperson for New Zealand's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said the agency was aware the US Air Force flight from Christchurch turned around following a warning it issued, known as a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen).
The ***** e activity was notified to the agency by Russia's State Air Traffic Management Corporation, "resulting in the issuance of a NOTAM advising pilots of the hazard," CAA said in a statement Tuesday.
In a follow-up statement Wednesday, CAA said it was made aware by the Russian air traffic agency of a planned missile launch and "associated potential hazard to international airspace, within New Zealand's Oceanic Flight Information Region (FIR)," a 30-million-square-kilometer area which is one of the largest airspaces in the world.
CNN has reached out to the US Air Force, the US Antarctic Program and the Russian State Air Traffic Management Corporation.

Associated Press | Ian Harrison: Cody Bellinger is set to begin a rehab ****** ignment later this week after going through another round of workouts, though an exact day is yet to be determined. Boone had said earlier on Sunday that he would begin his rehab on Tuesday, but clarified after the extra inning win that he had misspoke. There was no setback in the time that had lapsed between the two statements, just miscommunication. Still, Bellinger is closer to returning than he was yesterday, and that's what's important.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: After his statement was released saying goodbye on Old Timers' Day, it seemed the news was inevitable. Still when news broke yesterday that Tommy John had passed, it didn't make the news any less sad. After spending his final days in hospice care, John leaves a legacy obviously most synonymous with the famous UCL surgery named after him, but also for what he achieved on the field. If you haven't already, be sure to check out John's tribute to him from yesterday as well.
New York Magazine | Adam Elder: When the team announced last week that Apollo Sports Capital, a private equity investor, acquired a stake in the team (up to 15 percent) for $2.6 billion, many started to wonder what that meant for the Yankees, the sport, and how it could possibly affect fans. Unfortunately, there's no clear answer yet for how the Steinbrenner family will use this cash influx, but given that these aren't his father's Yankees, it seems unlikely that Hal will put his investment back onto the field. Worst case scenario is also that they get access to a full private equity playbook of cutting costs (lower payroll, tiered memberships for fans, more expensive tickets and YES subscriptions) and implement that. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
MLB.com | Max Ralph: If you're wondering what Ryan Weathers has been doing differently to put together his recent string of impressive and successful starts, it's that he's been using his most intriguing pitch, the four-seamer, the least among the pitches in his ****** nal. The timing of this piece could've been dicey since it was published late Saturday night, but Weathers backed this up by spinning a 7.1 inning gem, allowing just one run.

It was reported on July 27 that AstraZeneca PLC (NASDAQ:AZN) shares outperformed in European trading after the company reported second-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street expectations and reiterated its full-year 2026 guidance. Core earnings per share (EPS) jumped 18% on a constant exchange rate (FXN) basis year-over-year to $2.63, comfortably ahead of the $2.48 ***** yst consensus. Total revenue reached $15.38 billion, up 5% at constant exchange rates, driven primarily by sustained momentum in its Oncology and Rare Disease units. Management reconfirmed its full-year 2026 outlook of mid-to-high single-digit revenue growth and low double-digit Core EPS growth, expressing confidence in reaching its $80 billion total revenue target by 2030 despite near-term headwind shocks.
The quarter demonstrated strong commercial execution in core growth engines. Oncology revenue rose 16% to $7.33 billion, supported by strong demand for Tagrisso ($1.94 billion), Imfinzi ($1.85 billion), and Enhertu (+31%). Rare Disease contributed $4.9 billion, led by Ultomiris. These gains successfully offset severe pressures in the Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism (CVRM) segment, which declined 15% due to the loss of exclusivity (LOE) for Farxiga in the U.S. and ongoing Volume-Based Procurement (VBP) price cuts in China.
Meanwhile, pipeline updates presented a mixed picture. On July 27, AZN disclosed that a Phase 3 study evaluating Ultomiris in hematopoietic stem cell transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (HSCT-TMA) failed to hit its primary endpoint of event-free survival at week 26 versus placebo. Following the readout, H.C. Wainwright noted that the trial miss represents a "clear positive" for competitor Omeros (OMER), removing a major near-term competitive overhang on its drug Yartemlea and driving Omeros shares up 11% in morning trading.
AstraZeneca PLC (NASDAQ:AZN)'s core profitability remains elite, with core operating margins expanding to 34% in Q2 despite top-line headwinds from generic entry. High gross and net margins signal durable pricing power across its branded specialty portfolio. This strong profitability generates predictable cash flow to fund heavy R&D investments, commercial rollouts, and growing shareholder returns, including a 3-cent increase in the interim dividend to $1.06 per share, while buffering the company against pricing pressure.
The company's expansive late-stage pipeline and high volume of regulatory approvals underpin a multi-year growth trajectory. With 30 major regional approvals since late 2025 and more than 20 high-value trial readouts scheduled over the next 18 months, AZN possesses broad commercial optionality. Continued expansions in oncology (e.g., Enhertu and Imfinzi) and respiratory therapies (such as Breztri and Tezspire) provide direct revenue replacement for legacy products facing patent expiration.

Somalian referee Omar Artan, who was denied the chance to referee at the World Cup after being refused entry to the United States, will take charge of the UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Before the World Cup started in June, the 34-year-old referee unwittingly found himself in the media spotlight after being turned away on arrival at Miami International Airport, despite being part of the panel of referees selected by FIFA for the tournament.
"It was a very tough period," Artan said in an interview published on the UEFA website.
"A lot of people have sympathy for me, because when someone has been working a lot of years and is supposed to do something, and then can't do it, it's very challenging."
A US State Department official told AFP that the referee was "associated with suspected members of terrorist organizations", therefore "making the traveler ineligible for admission to the United States".

The Big Ten and Southeastern Conferences agreed Friday night to support a Senate bill that seeks to regulate college sports, ending a breakneck week of negotiations and pulling the bipartisan measure out of what looked like a certain death spiral.
School presidents from both conferences voted to back the bill after receiving last-minute concessions over language regarding third-party name-image-likeness deals and the so-called "associated entities" that often broker those arrangements between players and schools.
More details need to be worked out, but the headline is that the bill still has a chance to earn the 60 votes it needs to halt debate and head to an up-or-down vote before the Senate heads for summer break next Friday.
The summer recess is increasingly looking like an intractable deadline for the Protect College Sports Act, a bipartisan effort headed by Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.
After the conferences, which had balked at large sections of the bill, put out a short release announcing they supported the act "as currently drafted," Cruz put out a short statement on social media thanking the leagues and saying: "Let's save college sports." And Cantwell said: "Good. Now progress can be made in protecting women and Olympic athletes and moving the legislation closer to the President's desk."

The company said the combined operations would channel investment into areas of the UK bakery market that are expanding because of "changing consumer tastes and needs, including healthy options".
ABF had struck a deal to buy Hovis from private-equity firm Endless in August last year.

A Hidden Warning Sign Discovered in The Gut May Increase Cancer Risk

As we get older, chemical marks on our DNA slowly shift. Now, a study reveals this 'drift' in gut stem cells is fueled by inflammation and disrupted cell signaling, and it may help explain why our risk of colorectal cancer rises with age.
The international team of researchers has called this process Aging and Colon Cancer-Associated (ACCA) drift, and it involves shifts in DNA methylation that can 'switch' genes on or off without altering the DNA – called epigenetic changes.
In this case, the drift leads to the gradual si
