Matthew Lillard answered, "No. Not really," when asked whether he feels valued by Hollywood as an artist. The 56-year-old was speaking with Tommy DiDario on the Oct. 6 episode of I've Never Said This Before.
In an excerpt shared exclusively with PEOPLE, the Scream and Scooby-Doo actor said colleagues who have worked with him recognize what he brings to a production. He described trying to keep the atmosphere on set light while remaining dedicated to the work.
At conventions, he sees older and younger admirers waiting in long lines to meet him. He believes Hollywood underestimates that audience and said he takes pride in the connection he has built with fans.
Lillard emphasized that he is grateful to be approaching 40 years in the business. He said his frustrations were harder to live with when he was younger, when he was more impatient for a chance to move up.
Lillard described himself as quirky, gangly and energetic, capable of broad comedy and serious dramatic work. He said casting decision-makers are more comfortable with performers who fit a recognizable movie-star image, while his combination of qualities has made him harder to place.

Hollywood is no stranger to star couples, whether it be fast flings or decades of romance. Plenty of actors have found love on the set of movies and TV shows, and eventually tied the knot. Here are some of the most notable celebrity romances that led to marriage after co-stars met on set.
Tom Holland and Zendaya met each during the casting process for 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming ("He says when we first met it was super awkward because he went for a handshake and I went for a hug," Zendaya told Variety. "But I don't remember that. I thought it was cool.") Despite years of speculation, their relationship wasn't confirmed until they were caught on film kissing in Los Angeles in 2021.
The actress reportedly moved into Holland's London home in 2023. The couple became engaged in late 2024, and have since hosted a private wedding celebration in Surrey, UK.

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar first met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, but they didn't start officially dating until 2000. They got engaged in 2001 and tied the knot in 2002. They also starred together in Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, in which they portrayed love interests Fred and Daphne. They have since welcomed two children.

Celebrities always say they love their fans — but fans don't always make it easy.
Scream and Scooby-Doo star Matthew Lillard recently made headlines for a particularly odd encounter at a horror convention, but he's far from the only celebrity to endure a tense, awkward, or downright bizarre interaction with an admirer. Unfortunately, as the boundary between celebrities and their fans becomes increasingly blurred, that affection can sometimes be expressed in confusing ways.
From requesting to be punched in the face to propositioning stars for ****** to approaching them to buy crack cocaine, there seems to be no shortage of odd things a fan might do to make their celeb encounter memorable — and not in the best way.
Entertainment Weekly takes a look at 12 times fans didn't know how to take a chill pill when meeting a famous star.

Among the three Texas A&M players who accompanied third-year coach Mike Elko to SEC Media Days this week, senior linebacker Daymion Sanford spoke at length about his recovery after suffering a lower-body injury during the Maroon & White Game that required surgery over three months ago.
Alongside redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed and senior safety Marcus Ratcliffe, Sanford was not wearing a walking boot or any exterior protection, which, on the surface, looked like a great sign that the star defender has made significant progress and could return to the lineup earlier than previously expected.
However, when asked about a potential return date, Mike Elko remains unsure, while Sanford sounded much more optimistic, telling On3's Carter Karels that Texas A&M's training staff and doctors have aided in speeding up his recovery, which could result in returning to the field before the second half of the 2026 season.
"It's been going along good," he told Karels. "I've been working with the training staff; we've got the best training staff and doctors in the country, and they've been doing a lot with me. So I've been doing pretty good."
Last season, Sanford exploded on the scene after senior linebacker Scooby Williams dealt with injury issues, ranking fourth on the team in tackles with 57, paired with 3.5 sacks, an interception, three pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. A 2026 team captain, the Katy (TX) native is widely considered one of the best and most important players on the roster, while his mental toughness has been vital in getting through this latest hurdle.
