Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLX) has released topline results from the Phase 3 LUCIDITY trial of avexitide on August 18, 2026. Shares closed Monday down 0.9% at $21.43, then traded 15.7% higher at $24.80 after hours after the company scheduled the readout. The rally came before investors saw any efficacy or safety data, underscoring how much hope is attached to one event. For Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLX), the question is whether a successful metabolic-disease trial can finally replace the failed ALS narrative that has defined the company since Relyvrio was withdrawn.
LUCIDITY randomized 78 adults with post-bariatric hypoglycemia following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in a 3:2 ratio to receive once-daily avexitide or placebo. The FDA-agreed primary outcome measures the reduction in the composite of Level 2 and Level 3 hypoglycemic events through Week 16. Avexitide is designed to block the exaggerated GLP-1 response that can drive excess insulin secretion and dangerous drops in blood glucose.
The trial is therefore more than another pipeline update. Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLX) currently has no approved product, and avexitide is its most advanced near-term opportunity to rebuild a commercial business. A positive result would validate the company's move into endocrine disease. A miss would return attention to earlier-stage programs that cannot replace a late-stage **** et quickly.
Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLX) enters the readout with supportive early evidence. Amylyx said five earlier Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies produced consistent signals. In a 28-day, open-label Phase 2b crossover study involving 16 patients who had undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or other upper gastrointestinal surgeries, the 90 mg once-daily dose now used in LUCIDITY reduced Level 2 events by 53% and Level 3 events by 66% against the medical nutrition therapy-only run-in baseline. Avexitide was generally well tolerated across prior studies.
The FDA has granted avexitide Breakthrough Therapy designation for post-bariatric hypoglycemia, and management anticipates a potential 2027 launch if the drug is approved. Amylyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMLX) held $250.8 million in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments as of June 30. Based on its current operating plans, Amylyx expects that amount to provide a cash runway into 2028, supporting a potential regulatory filing and commercial preparations.

Missing the 6-month Medigap enrollment window at 65 allows insurers to deny coverage or charge more based on pre-existing conditions like diabetes.
Only 4 states offer meaningful Medigap protections beyond the federal window: Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Maine. Most beneficiaries are left subject to medical underwriting.
Before leaving Medicare Advantage, confirm remaining protected rights, compare multiple Medigap insurers, and secure approval before finalizing any switch to Original Medicare.
Many financial professionals are salespeople paid on what they push, not whether you end up wealthier. A fiduciary is the opposite. The SEC legally requires them to put your interests first. At 65, an Ohio woman picked a zero-premium Medicare Advantage plan because she was healthy and the sales brochure looked cheaper than adding a Medigap policy to Original Medicare. Two years later, her doctor diagnosed Type 2 diabetes, started her on insulin, and referred her to an endocrinologist outside the plan's network. Now 67, she wants to switch to Original Medicare with a Medigap Plan G so she can use a broader range of specialists.

Rosie O'Donnell shared her experience taking the weight-loss drug Mounjaro, including the side effects. The former talk show host said she has "never felt better." However, she revealed that she had lost 12 pounds without making any changes, leading her to worry that she might have cancer.
O'Donnell spoke about the details on the August 11 episode of the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast. The 64-year-old said, as quoted by Us Weekly, "Three years ago, the doctor told me … they said, 'You have diabetes, can you take a shot?' I said, 'I think so. I don't know. I've never done a shot. Is it insulin?' … They said, 'No, it's this new drug and it really helps with your blood sugar.'"
O'Donnell said she was never told that the medication could cause rapid weight loss. She said doctors were focused on getting her "numbers" down. After starting Mounjaro, O'Donnell went to ***** u but said she could not eat after her son Blake proposed to Teresa Garofalow Westervelt. The couple got married in 2024. O'Donnell is also the mother of Parker, 31, Chelsea, 28, Vivienne, 23, and Clay, 13.
The comedian said she was overwhelmed with emotion after missing her mother, Roseann, and wishing she could have witnessed Blake's engagement and new chapter in life. She initially believed that emotional experience explained her weight loss. However, two weeks later, "I get on the scale. I call my doctor crying. I must have cancer. I've lost 12 pounds and I haven't done anything. It's been three weeks since I started that medicine."
O'Donnell, who first opened up about taking Mounjaro in January 2023, explained that losing weight had always been difficult for her, even when she actively tried. She said the drug could help many people with obesity but criticized the high cost of the treatment.

Alexander Zverev was seen taking an injection during the men's Wimbledon final clash against Jannik Sinner as he looks to win the tournament for the very first time.
Having won the first set 7-6, Zverev was leading the second set 3-2 when he sat down on a courtside chair, at the switch of ends, and unveiled a medical pouch. He took out an insulin pen and injected it into his leg before resuming the match.
The French Open champion was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of four and the injection was a dose of insulin to manage his glucose levels both on and off court. His diagnosis is also the reason he can also use a phone during matches despite a ban on players doing so.
That is due to a medical exemption so that he can track his glucose monitor on his phone instead of using constant finger-prick checks which is quite common for people with diabetes.
An interview with BBC Sport in the build-up to the Wimbledon final saw Zverev talk about the reasons behind his phone use the German explaining "that's why the umpires allow me to check my phone, so I don't have to poke my finger every changeover".

LONDON (AP) — Alexander Zverev has more than just defending champion Jannik Sinner to deal with on Sunday in the Wimbledon final.
The 29-year-old German has Type 1 diabetes, which requires him to monitor his glucose levels and, if needed, inject insulin during matches.
Zverev, who won the French Open and is seeking back-to-back Grand Slam ****** les, uses an insulin pen when needed to jab the top of his thigh during changeovers on court.
Here's some more information about Zverev and the disease.
Zverev disclosed in 2022 that he has Type 1 diabetes, having been diagnosed at age 4. He had previously kept it quiet. If he needed an insulin jab during a match, he'd do it privately during bathroom breaks.

MannKind Corporation (NASDAQ:MNKD) is one of the Best Penny Stocks to Invest In According to Billionaires. MannKind Corporation (NASDAQ:MNKD) has gained roughly 20% since the FDA approved Afrezza, which is an inhaled insulin for children and adolescents aged 6 and older with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. More than 350,000 children and adolescents in the US have diabetes, and most need lifelong insulin therapy. The drug works through the company's Technosphere platform, delivering insulin via the lungs for rapid absorption. More recently, on June 23, MannKind Corporation (NASDAQ:MNKD) also announced receiving a grant from Breakthrough T1D to support the company's INHALE-1ST clinical study. The trial tests whether Afrezza can be used soon after a type 1 diabetes diagnosis in kids. The company's CEO called the partnership a sign of growing confidence in inhaled insulin's potential for newly diagnosed children.

Many of you have been in touch to ask why Alexander Zverev has been seen using his phone multiple times during matches at this year's Wimbledon - despite a ban on players doing so.
The reason is because Zverev is type 1 diabetic, and therefore has a medical exemption from the rule in order to check his glucose levels.
The All England Club has told BBC Sport that Grand Slam tournaments have a list of players that are diabetic, and those players are permitted to use their phones during matches in order to monitor their glucose and inject insulin if needed.
Zverev, who has reached the men's singles final, told BBC Sport he has two phones, one of which contains no SIM card as it is solely used for monitoring his glucose while on court.
It means he can simply read the levels that his glucose monitor is relaying to his phone screen, instead of doing constant finger-prick checks.

Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) is one of the most promising healthcare stocks according to Wall Street ******* ysts. On June 6, Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) released new clinical results for two of its next-generation diabetes management systems, which management described as strong and that bring the company closer to making the systems a reality.
Cherries/Shutterstock.com
The two diabetes systems are Omnipod 6 and a fully closed-loop (FCL) system for type 2 diabetes. In the first study, dubbed STRIVE pivotal trial, the company compared the current Omnipod 5 with Omnipod 6 and found that the latter improved time in tight range by 7% for type 1 adults and by 5% for type 2 patients. Overall time in range also improved across both groups. The results also show that the new system delivered up to 50% more automated insulin.
Another key finding from STRIVE was that Omnipod 6 performed far better even when patients bolused less. The company explained that this matters because one of the biggest reasons people with diabetes don't hit their targets is inconsistency in remembering or choosing to manually dose for meals. Omnipod 6 compensates for that gap.
The other study, dubbed EVOLUTION 3, achieved 64% time in range, which is a 12% improvement over baseline. The system also cut total daily insulin from 86 units down to 58 units with no accompanying weight gain, and 86% of participants reported being satisfied or highly satisfied with the system.

Alexander Zverev’s campaign at the Terra Wortmann Open has ended in heartbreak after a loss to Taylor Fritz in the semifinals. The German, who displayed moments of difficulty during the thrilling contest, later revealed an unexpected complication that disrupted his performance and caused havoc with his blood sugar levels.
Zverev endured a challenging start to his battle with Fritz in Halle, requiring an off-court medical timeout at 3-4(40-40) in the opening set. Although the world No. 3 battled back to clinch the first set, Fritz responded strongly by forcing a decider. As he dealt with a back issue, Zverev struggled to maintain his level in the third set, allowing the American to seal a 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5 victory and secure his seventh straight win over the German.
Speaking to the press after his exit, Zverev dismissed concerns about his back but revealed he had experienced a major problem with his blood sugar due to his glucose sensor displaying inaccurate readings.
“I don’t think there’s any reason to worry heading into Wimbledon. My back did seize up a bit, but that wasn’t the main reason for the defeat. I had huge problems with my blood sugar because the sensor I use gave me a completely wrong reading. It indicated very high values when they were actually low, so I injected much more insulin than I should have,” Zverev said.
The world No. 3, who lives with type 1 diabetes, explained how having to inject a lot of insulin into his system hampered him during the clash. However, he was quick to emphasize that Fritz was the deserved winner.
