HAVANA, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Cuba's top diplomat said on Monday there are no talks underway with the United States, nor were there ‌any plans for future negotiations, amid a "genocidal" blockade that Cuba says has ‌cost the island nation over $8 billion in economic damages in the last year.
"There are no negotiations or agendas, although a willingness to stay in contact remains despite the lack of progress," Cuba's foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez, told reporters at a press conference in Havana.
Rodriguez said that damages caused by the decades-old U.S. trade embargo against Cuba had jumped 7 percent in ‌2025 versus the previous year, to $8.1 billion.
Cuba's foreign minister said the financial hit to Cuba`s economy would balloon in the first months of 2026, after the Trump administration imposed an oil blockade on the island that has all but decimated output and led to nationwide blackouts that now span days.

Mantua, Cuba, is a small fishing village on the northwestern coast of the island; legend says it was founded by shipwrecked Italian sailors in the early 1600s. Los Arroyos, the neighborhood where Randy Arozarena grew up, is a tiny tip of the island, about as close to Cancún as it is to the capital Havana, where Lazaro Montes was born. Maybe their respective hometowns account for their personality differences: Randy is quieter, more removed, shying away from media appearances, while Laz is as big and boisterous as the bustling capital city itself, eager to try out his English with whoever wants to talk. Making his big-league debut tonight, "Big Laz" had an appropriately splashy welcome to the big leagues that will guarantee his megawatt smile will light up highlight reels tonight both in Seattle and beyond, accounting for two of the Mariners' nine runs tonight. But Randy Arozarena also continued doing what he's done all season, leading the team offensively and providing an early separating blow that helped the Mariners outlast the Red Sox in a grueling 9-6 win at Fenway.
The Mariners got on the board right away when Dominic Canzone absolutely obliterated this hanging changeup from Red Sox starter Jedixson Paez:
Your browser does not support the video tag. Download the video.
Unfortunately, the Red Sox took that run right back with a blast of their own, a four-seamer from Bryan Woo that didn't quite get top rail enough that Mickey Gasper hammered for a matching blow.
But the Mariners offense picked up their starter in the top of the second, pouncing on Paez for five runs of both the small and large ball variety. Josh Naylor got things going with a leadoff double, followed by a line-drive single from Cole Young – not super hard hit, but any contact in the air is good from young Cole, who's been really struggling lately with pounding the ball into the ground. That brought up Lazaro Montes for his very first big-league at-bat in an RBI situation. Facing a flagging pitcher on a bullpen day, Montes took a studied, disciplined at-bat, getting ahead 2-0, whiffing at a changeup on the plate, and then declining to chase two more changeups to earn his way on base. J.P. Crawford put the Mariners ahead on a sacrifice fly, and then Brock Rodden checked in with an infield hit of his own, hustling down the line to allow Cole Young to score. That also turned the lineup over for Randy Arozarena, who continued his audition to Get Real Paid by the Red Sox next season by crushing a sinker middle-middle that would have wound up on Lansdowne Street if not for an inconveniently located billboard.

Now that Roma are close to Rodrigo Mora from FC Porto, they are putting their focus onto Olympique Lyonnais winger Malick Fofana, preferred to Inter's Luis Henrique.
Gian Piero Gasperini has been very vocal about the need for reinforcements in attack, and while Mora can play a wider role, he is generally more central.

According to Fabrizio Romano, their prime target now is Fofana, and the feeling is mutual, as he would rather come to Serie A than Galatasaray.
Tuttomercatoweb had suggested a €40m proposal was on its way, and the good news is that the player seems to favour Roma despite the fact Galatasaray could offer him a higher salary.

HAVANA, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Gasoline at $38 a gallon sold from cramped apartments. Diesel hawked on Instagram by a celebrity model to a reggaeton soundtrack. Six decades after Fidel Castro's revolution, all of a sudden, capitalist cracks are appearing in Cuba's communist energy sector.
Under Washington's crippling oil embargo against Cuba, an exception that allows U.S. firms to export fuel to private Cuban businesses has kickstarted a chaotic black market and pried the lid off an energy sector tightly controlled by the state ever since Dwight Eisenhower ‌was in the White House.
Oil shipments from Cuba's traditional suppliers Venezuela and Mexico ended abruptly after the U.S. ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in January. U.S. Coast Guard cutters patrol the waters off Cuba, while sanctions and threats have dissuaded tankers from even setting sail.
The embargo has hobbled essential ‌state-run services like the healthcare system, public transport and schools. But under the Commerce Department exception, a trickle of gasoline and diesel is reaching private restaurants, retailers and taxis, the first significant landings of U.S. fuel on the Caribbean island since Castro nationalized refineries after the 1959 revolution.

HAVANA, July 10 (Reuters) - Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz said on Thursday night that there were no divisions ‌within Cuba's leadership, days after "USA Today" published an interview with ‌the grandson of former Cuban leader Raul Castro in which he said he was open to negotiating with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Raul Guillermo Rodriguez Castro's unusual offer of dialogue has sparked speculation of splits within Cuba's power structure over how to engage with the U.S. The 42-year-old, known as "El Cangrejo," holds no ‌formal government office in Cuba.
Marrero rejected such speculation in his comments on social media on Thursday.
"Conversations have been held with representatives of the U.S. government aimed at seeking solutions, through dialogue, to bilateral differences," he wrote.

Thousands of Scottish football fans, the Tartan Army, paraded through Miami on Monday in a distinctive homage to the local Marlins baseball team.
Starting in Little Havana, supporters donned kilts, Scotland jerseys, and cone hats, chanting about 'super' John McGinn and Steve Clarke.
Their march from the Ball & Chain bar to LoanDepot Park was met with enthusiasm by Miami locals.
With the arid Miami weather, some Scots opted for the signature “taps aff” look, with the scent of an abundance of sun cream and lager in the air.
The Leitch family were one of hundreds of families from Scotland to take part in the march.

HAVANA/CANCUN, June 8 (Reuters) - A historically strong earthquake struck off Cuba's northwest coast on Monday, according to official reports, shaking parts of Cuba, Mexico and ‌Florida that are typically not ****** e to quakes.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) measured ‌the quake at a magnitude 6.1 at a shallow depth of 26 km (16 miles) and its epicenter 104 km west-northwest of Mantua, Cuba, about two to four hours by car from the capital Havana.
Monday's earthquake was unusual for this area of the Caribbean, said Paul Earle, a seismologist at the USGS, noting that the quake occurred within a tectonic plate, where earthquakes are usually ‌more scattered and less frequent than when they occur along plate boundaries.
An earthquake this strong had not hit within 322 km (200 miles) of Monday's quake since 1880, when a 6.0 temblor hit near San Cristobal, Cuba, said Earle.
Authorities have not yet reported any major damage or casualties, but the quake spiked concern in Cuba, where decades of economic crisis have left buildings in severe disrepair. Ongoing widespread blackouts across the region have made communications ‌difficult.

Variety's inaugural Power of Women: London event was held at The Chancery Rosewood on Thursday evening, bringing together actresses, musicians and industry figures for a celebration of female achievement.
Cynthia Erivo wore Vivienne Westwood, and if anyone was going to make this clash of tartan, draping and exaggerated proportions work, it was always going to be her.
Delivering all the attitude you would expect from a Vivienne Westwood look, the towering platform boots only amplified the rebellious mood. The combination of sharp tailoring, asymmetrical draping and Cynthia's unwavering confidence made this feel entirely authentic to her personal style.
Oversized tailoring isn't usually part of Emma Corrin's style vocabulary, but she makes a compelling case for it in this brown Miu Miu suit. The relaxed proportions gave the look an effortless, borrowed-from-the-boys appeal, while the glittering orange Miu Miu pumps injected a touch of playfulness. It was a simple styling choice that completely transformed the mood of the outfit.
Havana Rose Liu used to be a Chanel-all-the-time kind of girl as one of the house's ambassadors, but since the Cannes Film Festival, I've noticed that she has been exploring a wider range of labels.

Cuba’s leaders just lost an ally in Maduro − if starved of Venezuelan oil, they ...

Footage of a handcuffed Nicolás Maduro being escorted to a Brooklyn detention center will come as uncomfortable viewing for political leaders in Havana.
“Cuba is going to be something we’ll end up talking about,” said President Donald Trump just hours after the Jan. 3, 2026, operation to seize the Venezuelan president. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed Trump’s warning: “If I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I’d be concerned.”
As a historian of the United States and Cuba, I believe that Wash
