Chelsea head into the closing stretch of the summer window with a familiar sense of movement, urgency and intrigue. The names shift, the numbers remain eye-catching, and the wider theme is clear enough, Stamford Bridge is still a place where squad building is constant, aggressive and occasionally uncomfortable. According to The Athletic, the final days of the market could yet reshape Xabi Alonso's first Chelsea squad in meaningful ways.
The broad picture is one of exits before arrivals. Chelsea have stockpiled depth, youth and possibility over recent years, but football teams still require balance, availability and clarity of purpose. In that regard, the club's late-window strategy appears practical. The report states that "the squad is largely set, with a priority being placed on getting several players out, either sold or on loan." That line speaks volumes. Chelsea are not merely browsing the market, they are trying to create order.
There is also the matter of Enzo Fernandez, a player central to Chelsea's midfield identity and central, too, to the market noise surrounding west London. Manchester City remain interested. Chelsea remain resistant, at least on their terms. The old verbal framework has gone and the new conditions are stiffer, both financially and competitively. As The Athletic reports, "the asking price for Fernandez is now higher than the £120million verbal agreement that was in place until the deadline ran out on August 14." Chelsea, significantly, "will also want to make sure they can sign somebody else before agreeing to any sale, as they do not want to weaken the squad."
That is the key detail. This is not a club inviting offers for a prized **** et. This is a club prepared to listen only if the structure of the deal protects their present and future. Chelsea are expecting an offer from City, and Alonso "did not confirm that Fernandez will still be a Chelsea player at the end of the window". That is the modern manager's balancing act, keep authority, preserve dressing-room equilibrium, and avoid making promises the market may challenge.
If Fernandez stays, Chelsea retain a midfielder of personality, technical **** urance and bite. If he goes, the consequences spread beyond one position. The report makes plain that Chelsea would not necessarily seek "a like-for-like replacement for the Argentina international. It could be a midfielder with a different profile, or a new attacker." That is a revealing football point. Chelsea's recruitment under Alonso appears to be guided by function rather than neat duplication.

Financial markets are relying on an unusually favourable combination of economic outcomes that may prove difficult to sustain, according to Deutsche Bank, which warned that current valuations leave investors with little room for disappointment.
Macro strategist Henry Allen said risk ***** ets remain strong, with global equity markets trading around record levels. At the same time, rates markets are ***** uming central banks are close to completing their tightening cycles, while commodity markets appear to be pricing supply disruptions as manageable.
"This goldilocks window isn't a sustainable equilibrium," he wrote, adding that markets are "pricing a near-immaculate scenario where basically everything goes right."
Deutsche Bank outlined two potential paths that could challenge those ***** umptions. Under the first, economic growth remains resilient and financial conditions continue to loosen, potentially forcing central banks to respond with more aggressive interest rate increases.
The bank highlighted Bloomberg's index of U.S. financial conditions, which recently reached its loosest level since 1996. Meanwhile, both headline and core inflation remain above central bank targets across most major economies.

DALLAS — By Thursday afternoon, the get-in ticket price at the American Airlines Center hovered around $80. The cost to view the fourth-ever WNBA matchup between Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark from the upper deck — less than a week after the scintillating third meeting in Indianapolis — was not overly prohibitive.
The show had different stars and a different result this time. The Dallas Wings notched maybe their most-needed win of the season with a 91-85 victory over the Indiana Fever, at last finding some equilibrium after losing Azzi Fudd to season-ending knee surgery and sliding into eighth place in the WNBA standings. It also ended the Fever's five-game winning streak and prevented them from clinching a playoff spot on their first try.
Those among the 20,297 seeking another Bueckers-Clark duel, after each scored 29 points in last Friday's meeting?
They instead got Arike Ogunbowale scoring 32 points and Jessica Shepard adding 26 for Dallas in her return to the lineup, while Indiana's Kelsey Mitchell carried a too-heavy load with 37 points — though she made history in doing so. Bueckers and Clark, meanwhile, missed a combined 22 of 31 shots from the field.
Still, even without those two playing captivating basketball, it appears the Wings and Fever under the same roof is becoming a must-attend rivalry. Among the notables on hand Thursday night: Mark Cuban, Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg and NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady. Even WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert made an appearance, chatting up Cuban between the third and fourth quarters.

Whilst Bianconeri coach Luciano Spalletti is desperate to seize a new central midfielder to bring equilibrium to the core of the pitch, Juventus have now set their sights emerging candidate Matias Galazara of River Plate.
TuttoJuve reports that other than Franck Kessie and Tijjani Reijnders, the Turin based club have been monitoring the 22-year-old Paraguayan midfielder throughout the Fifa 2026 World Cup and are reportedly keeping their tabs open in regards to a potential swoop.
As it stands, the Italian tactician is eager to acquire a midfielder that is capable of organizing the attack, dictating the rhythm in possession and constructing the play whilst moving vertically. Hence, the Old Lady believe that the promising River Plate star fits the criteria and believe that a fee of €6m would be enough to persuade the Argentine outfits in permitting Galazara to depart the club in favour of joining the Italian giants.

Reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion "The Kicking Machine" Superlek has a debt to settle with Abdulla "Smash Boy" Dayakaev, and the time to collect is finally here.
Eager to avenge a razor-thin split-decision loss, the Thai megastar gets his shot at redemption in a thrilling bantamweight Muay Thai rematch at The Inner Circle 25. The highly anticipated bout goes down live in Asia primetime on Friday, August 7, exclusively for subscribers at live.onefc.com.
Their first meeting at The Inner Circle 14 this past May began the exact way most Superlek fights do. The 30-year-old muay femur stylist moved with methodical precision, processing every movement like a supercomputer calibrating its target.
However, one explosive burst from the Russian standout completely disrupted that rhythm. A disorienting right hand landed flush around the ear and temple, surprisingly sending Superlek to the canvas. The sheer impact tested his equilibrium so severely that standing steady, let alone gauging incoming strikes, became nearly impossible for the Thai icon.
The Superlek Muay Thai founder recalled:

'Briu' is a Cape Verdean Creole word that can mean grit, determination, drive, focus or energy. That's how national team forward Sandra Soares-Martins describes the mood in camp as her side prepares for its first-ever WAFCON match.
But such is the rise of the country's national teams as a whole within the past decade, 'briu' could be used to describe the Cape Verdean Football Federation.
While the men's side were making history competing in a first-ever senior World Cup, the women's team were busy putting the final touches to their preparations to create yet more history for the island nation.
The newly expanded 16-team tournament is underway in Morocco after kicking off Sunday, July 26, following a delay from March.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) expanded the tournament from 12 to 16 teams after qualification ended. Before that decision, Cape Verde secured their place in Morocco by winning two-legged ties against Guinea and Mali.

The NFL is constantly cycling. What’s en vogue gets copied around the league, the other side of the ball adjusts, we reach a (short) state of equilibrium, and then a new (or refurbished) change happens to adjust for the adjustment, and the cosmic ballet goes on.
One of my favorite aspects of doing my job is looking forward, and predicting and anticipating what the trends for the upcoming season might be. Last summer, I looked at how new kickoff rules and increased coaching aggression will change how third downs are treated in terms of running the ball, how teams will look to run the ball more to take advantage of the changing size of defenders (which they did: NFL teams ran the ball at the highest rate since 2008 and had their highest leaguewide rushing success rate on running back runs since 2004), and how there might be an increased frequency of personnel groupings featuring two or more tight ends; it’s a prediction that not only came to fruition in terms of usage and success (see: Los Angeles Rams), but also continued to be a talking point (one that’s been exhaustively covered) throughout the offseason with free agency and especially the draft.
Looking back in football is necessary, whether it’s for film review or for a player archetypes in scouting. Looking back should also be used to look forward. A head coach stewing on hot trends can leave them in the dust as the league quickly adapts and finds the next way to gain or stop an extra yard. The old saying is that the NFL stands for “Not For Long,” and that applies in a lot of ways, including staying on the bleeding edge of where the NFL, and football in general, are going.
Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournament
And while there are a few scheme and play-related gizmos I want to touch on in this piece, there’s one aspect with NFL offenses that has caught my attention that I am going to be keeping an eye on throughout this season.

What is the blue-white star next to the moon tonight?

Look to the southern sky at sunset on May 26 to see the waxing gibbous moon shining close to the sparkling blue-white light of the bright star Spica in the constellation Virgo, ahead of this week's rare "Blue Moon".
The 83%-lit moon will sit a little under 40 degrees above the southern horizon — roughly the width of four clenched fists stacked at arm's length — with Spica close to its left.
Spica's light represents not one, but two colossal stars, which orbit each other once every four days. Together, they shine with a combined luminosity of more than 12,000 suns, according to the astronomy website EarthSky.
Turn a pair of binoculars or a small telescope on the moon to see an arc of light shining close to the line separating night from day on the lunar surface, created as sunlight glances off the peaks of the Montes Jura mountain range on the northwestern edge of Mare Imbrium.

As 2026 begins, Bitcoin (BTC) is locked in a state of equilibrium, with on-chain data revealing a tense balance between sellers taking profits and persistent demand from long-term holders.
After a volatile 2025, BTC has stalled near the $88,000 mark, and key metrics show a market lacking a clear directional bias.
Selling pressure, while present, is not indicative of panic. The Spent Output Profit Ratio (SOPR), a key on-chain indicator, hovers just below neutral at 0.994. This suggests that coins being sold are moving, on average, close to their original purchase price, ruling out a fear-driv
