Lucy Hale has announced the death of her father, Preston Hale.
In an emotional obituary posted to Instagram on Monday, the Pretty Little Liars actress confirmed her dad passed away "suddenly" on 17 July. He was 68.
"My dad was mind-numbingly funny, sensitive, and deeply kind. He adored his family, my stepsisters, all his grandbabies, his dogs (and mine), his lifelong friends, and my stepmom, Stacy - the love of his life," she wrote alongside a slideshow of throwback photos. "He was so proud of his career in farming and of his hometown of Milan, Tennessee."
Lucy went on to describe Preston as a "true Southern man" who loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and farming. She also reflected on the "deep soul bond" she shared with her father.
"Our last conversation was beautiful. The last time I saw him was beautiful. Our last phone call was perfect," the 37-year-old recalled. "My sister Maggie happened to be in town visiting me in L.A. when we got the call. She was sitting no more than three feet away from me. That's something only God and my dad could have orchestrated. I can't imagine receiving that call alone or walking through these first surreal days by myself."
To conclude the heartfelt message, Lucy emphasised that she has been relying on her "spirituality and my beliefs" at this "incredibly difficult time".

COLORADO CITY, Colo. (AP) — The families of two men who discovered through DNA tests that they were switched at birth 38 years ago are accusing a North Dakota hospital of robbing them of the lives they were supposed to lead.
Kyle Bylin discovered his birth family after taking an at-home test he chose randomly during a Christmas gift-exchange. That led to his biological aunt on a genealogy platform. Her nephew, Jeremy Morrison, then had his DNA tested. The results were irrefutable.
"That's when my mind was just completely blown," Bylin said. "We could have never imagined that it was an actual birth switch that occurred."
Morrison said he was convinced as soon as he saw a photo of Bylin's brother and realized they looked very much alike.
Bylin and Morrison were the only babies born on Jan. 26, 1988, at Unity Medical Center in Grafton, North Dakota, according to their lawsuit filed in state court last week. Somehow, they went home with the wrong parents.

LONDON, July 16 (Reuters) - All 15 year-olds in Britain should be offered the vaccine against meningococcal B disease (MenB), an expert committee said on Thursday, changing its previous advice after the country's largest outbreak of the disease earlier this year.
The government will now consider the recommendation before making any changes to national vaccination programmes.
• Two people died in March in a MenB outbreak in Kent, southeast England, which health authorities said was the largest and fastest-growing ever seen in Britain.
• Adolescents in Britain — as in many other countries — are not routinely vaccinated against meningitis B, but since 2015, the country has offered a vaccine against the disease to babies.
• An independent expert scientific committee was asked to review vaccination plans in the wake of the March outbreak, and has now said teenagers aged about 15 should routinely be offered the vaccine.

A mother has described how a family day out at a country park ended in a "terrifying" road rage attack which left her children in tears.
The Liverpool family had just left an American classic car show at Tatton Park in Knutsford, Cheshire, when a man confronted her after she did not pull over to let him drive past.
Dashcam footage of the incident, at 15:00 BST on Saturday, shows him braking in front of the family's car before climbing out of his van. He can then be heard swearing, before he rips the car door handle off.
Portable toilet firm Instant Loos and Event Hire has apologised and said its subcontractor would no longer work for them. Cheshire Police said it was investigating the incident.
The mother, Olivia, was in the car with her two six-month-old babies and a 13-year-old.

ZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine (AP) — When Marharyta Nekhoroshyva first saw her newborn son, she was gripped by fear. Born after just 26 weeks of pregnancy, he weighed only 940 grams (2 pounds) and wore diapers no larger than the palm of an adult hand.
"The doctors told me that if he survived the first three days, everything would be OK," she said, tears filling her eyes. "I don't believe in God, but I was praying."
Now 9 months old, Mark is energetic and lively, but he has chronic breathing problems and requires frequent hospital stays.
Nekhoroshyva must navigate her son's illness while living under the constant threat of attack in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, where hospitals board up their windows because blast waves from Russian strikes routinely shatter glass. She is doing it alone while her husband fights in the war.
A rising number of babies are being born prematurely — before 37 weeks of pregnancy — in Ukraine, particularly in regions near the front lines, where some areas have seen rates nearly double since the conflict started with Russia's invasion in 2022.

As measles roars back, scientists find antibodies that could offer protection

Using the blood of a 56-year-old woman vaccinated against measles, scientists have isolated a fighting force of four potent virus-blocking antibodies that could pave the way toward a treatment for people exposed to the highly contagious respiratory disease making a comeback in the United States.
A safe, highly effective vaccine for measles has been available since the 1960s, and the U.S. officially eliminated the disease in 2000, with sporadic cases and outbreaks. But dropping vaccination rates have sparked large outbreaks in multiple states, and the country is edging closer to the virus spreading freely again-which puts more people at risk.
New ways to block or treat measles would be particularly important for people who are immunocompromised and babies under the age of 1, because they are not eligible for the vaccine, leaving them unprotected amid a growing number of cases.
“Measles was a problem that was solved. Until it wasn’t solved anymore,” said Erica Ollmann Saphire, president of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology who led the study published Thursday in the journal Cell Host & Microbe. But she and other scientists stressed that this approach was not a substitute for a vaccine.
