Jeffrey Archer, the prolific British author and former politician, has died at the age of 86.
Archer's publisher HarperCollins confirmed his death in a statement, revealing that the Kane & Abel writer died "suddenly and peacefully at home" on Monday. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Jain is an entrepreneur and investor who is the founder and CEO of Bilt Rewards, a company that allows users to earn points on rent. Per Jain's website, the company has grown to a valuation of $1.5 billion since it launched in June 2021.
He was previously the chief product officer at Tinder, a dating app that acquired his company, Humin. In 2017, he founded Kairos, "a venture studio for young entrepreneurs that helped launch and grow its partner companies to over $6.5 billion."

Pierce Brosnan thinks the Lucifer star Tom Ellis could be the next James Bond. Ellis revealed what the former 007 star told him about potentially taking up the role of James Bond.
James Bond casting could have another contender, as Pierce Brosnan reportedly believes Ellis has what it takes to play the role. While talking about his upcoming drama CIA, Ellis told Metro U.K., "When I got the script, the character of Colin was this enigmatic tinderbox of many things that he has to sit on. The more research I did about the CIA, the more interested I was in playing him."
Ellis said his research for the role left him fascinated by the CIA and its work.
Ellis plays Pierce Brosnan's son in The Thursday Murder Club. When asked whether Brosnan gave him any advice for his new spy role, he said, "No, he didn't. But he did tell me he thought I'd make a good Bond, and I was like, 'Pierce, I think I'm probably too old now. But I'll take it from you, mate. I'll take it from you.'"
Tom Ellis is not currently among the actors widely rumored to play James Bond. His run as Lucifer Morningstar ended five years ago.

STOURBRIDGE, England, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Wildfires in England and Wales have hit a record level, fire chiefs said on Friday, warning that rescue services were battling to keep up with rising risks a day after ‌fires raced from tinder-dry fields to engulf houses on the hottest day of the year.
Britain has not faced anything like the ‌devastation wrought across Spain, France and elsewhere in Europe this year, but as the country endures the fifth heatwave of what is expected to be its hottest summer ever, it is dealing with more outbreaks of fire than ever before.
Phil Garrigan, chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council, said the number of wildfires had now exceeded last year's total of 1,017.
"We've well surpassed the figures from the previous high of 2025," Garrigan said, without detailing this year's latest figure.

EJEA DE LOS CABALLEROS, Spain, July 17 (Reuters) - Firefighters backed by 30 aircraft struggled on Friday to contain a wildfire in northeastern Spain that has ripped through an area the size of San Francisco, forcing ‌the evacuation of more than 1,000 people, as recent heatwaves left vegetation tinder-dry across much of Europe.
Successive early summer heatwaves, which many scientists ‌blame on human-driven climate change, have pushed temperatures to unprecedented levels in large swathes of the continent, causing water shortages, crop damage, wildfires, and thousands more deaths than normal.
According to the Reuters Climate Monitor, the average high across Western Europe on Friday was forecast to be 27.5 degrees Celsius (81.5 degrees Fahrenheit), which is 4.2 C above the normal high for July 17 from 1961-1990.
