Long before she became one of Hollywood's most celebrated stars, Audrey Hepburn was learning music and dance at a small village school in the Kent countryside.
The future Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady actress spent part of her childhood in Elham, near Canterbury, where local historians say her love of performing was encouraged during three formative years before the outbreak of World War Two.
Today, a blue plaque on a cottage near the King's Arms pub marks the place where Hepburn lived between 1936 and 1939.
"It really was the starting point for the young Audrey Hepburn that she became," said Brian Badham, of Elham Historical Society.
Hepburn, then known as Audrey Ruston-Hepburn, arrived in the village after her parents separated.

An 8-year-old has died after contracting a rare brain-eating amoeba believed to have been encountered while swimming in a lake near her home, her family and health officials said.
Lillian Smart, who lived in Ruston in northern Louisiana, died in the hospital over the weekend, shortly after turning 8, according to her parents.
"Last night Lillian ran from our arms to the arms of Jesus," her family said in a post on Facebook Sunday morning. "The injuries to her brain were too severe for her little body to recover from," the post read.
The family earlier wrote Lillian had experienced significant brain swelling "as a result of the parasite."
The Louisiana Department of Health announced last week a resident had likely contracted the organism, known as Naegleria fowleri, while swimming in Lake Claiborne which is about 30 miles northwest of Ruston.

Ruston High safety Jayden Anding recently verbally committed to sign with LSU football prior to the completion of his senior season this fall.
Anding is the second member of the Bearcats' 2027 class to cite LSU as a future destination, joining tight end Ahmad Hudson in coach Lane Kiffin's fold. The senior recently told the USA TODAY Network why he chose the Tigers over runner-up Ole Miss.
"A lot went into my decision, but at the end of the day, LSU just felt like home," Anding said. "The relationships I built with the coaches were a big part of it. They believed in me from the beginning and showed me how I'd fit into their program."
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Anding was a key defender in Ruston's drive to the LHSAA Non-Select Division I state championship game last fall. The 4-star recruit recorded 49 tackles, three pass breakups, recovered a fumble and picked off three passes returning two for TDs as a junior. He holds offers from a wealth of schools including Oklahoma, Miami, Arkansas and Mississippi State.

The LHSAA football champion with Ruston High School, 10-year NFL veteran and Colorado and Louisiana Sports Hall of Famer is the youngest of 13 children. His late mother, Louise, was his best friend while his late World War II veteran father, Oscar, was his hero.
One of the biggest lessons Brooks learned from his family was that if he wanted to be good at something, he had to give it his all. He continued giving back to his community Saturday by holding his first youth football camp at Lincoln Preparatory School.

Anding is a highly thought of in-state prospect in Louisiana who currently plays his football at Ruston High School.
The defensive back is only 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, but is said to have strong ball-tracking skills and is expected to grow into a mature frame in the next couple of seasons.
It looks like Anding's decision was a family affair, as his brother Aidan is a cornerback for the Tigers.
Aidan Anding is not expected to see the field for LSU in 2026 after tearing his Achilles, but could make it back for 2027 when his brother arrives on campus.
