Anne Hathaway became the target of MAGA's anger on Tuesday after an anti-abortion website dredged up her old comments on reproductive rights.
Hathaway, in a 2022 appearance on "The View" after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, underscored the importance of a young woman's "reproductive destiny" before remarking on her "own personal experience with abortion."

"I don't think we talk about this enough; abortion can be another word for mercy," said Hathaway, who, days after SCOTUS' decision, used the anniversary of "The Devil Wears Prada" to point out that the film's young female characters built their lives and careers in a country that honored their reproductive rights.
She later continued, "We know that no two pregnancies are alike and it follows that no two lives are alike, that follows that no two conceptions are alike. So how can we have a law — how can we have a point of view on this that says we must treat everything the same?"

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A federal judge says Idaho can't prosecute doctors who perform abortions to protect a pregnant person's health or prevent self-harm.
U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill made the ruling Thursday, writing that Idaho's "Defense of Life Act" and "Fetal Heartbeat Act" — which together create a near-total ban on abortion — violate the due process and equal protection clauses of the 14th Amendment. Physicians who violate the laws can lose their license and face up to five years in prison.
Both laws include narrow exceptions, including abortions done to prevent the death of a pregnant woman or in some cases of rape or incest where the pregnant person has filed a police report.
The case isn't about bodily autonomy or reproductive choice, Winmill wrote in the 81-page decision, but rather the "limit of the state's power to make a woman suffer for the sake of an unborn child."
The state can't pick and choose which life-threatening conditions justify abortion, he wrote.
