Mychal Thompson thinks his son, Klay Thompson, is the exact veteran that the Miami Heat should value. But he still gave one very important warning before he starts life under Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra.
Speaking on 104.3 WQAM, Mychal explained Klay's maturity, professionalism, and focus on winning, and that should make him a natural fit in the Heat's very demanding environment.
"Klay is Pat Riley's type of player. Very mature, very adult, only cares about winning. But I did warn him. I said, 'Listen, son. I don't know how other teams handle it, but you cannot be late. If you're a Pat Riley player, you got to be on time. And being early—I should say, being on time is being late. You got to be early."
"That's the way Magic Johnson was, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was when I was with the Lakers. If practice was at 10 o'clock, they were there by 9:15, 9 o'clock, getting ready."

On the heels of this year's Naismith Hall of Fame ceremony, Mychal Thompson is calling for a former LA Lakers player to be inducted next. Thompson, however, isn't making a case for himself.
Instead, the two-time NBA champion during the Lakers' "Showtime" era tweeted on Monday that a former teammate of Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant deserves HOF honors.
"OK [Basketball] Halla Fame…Time to Induct Robert Horry…What's the hold up?"
The opinion drew different reactions from fans, with some supporting the idea of Horry getting a Hall of Fame induction and others arguing that he wasn't worthy of one.
One netizen posited the idea that the 2003-04 Lakers would have won the NBA championship had they kept Horry in the lineup, instead of signing Karl Malone. Thompson went on to respond.

"Reading Rainbow" host Mychal Threets is sharing an update after seeking help for his mental health.
Threets, a librarian and social media personality known for promoting "library joy," said in a video shared on Threads that he had returned home following his hospitalization under a five-day psychiatric hold.
"I just wanted to apologize for worrying so many people," Threets said. "I just got back from a five-day stay at the hospital, a five-day psychiatric hold. I haven't been okay for what feels like a very, very long time. I am not OK. But I have hope I will get to OK."

There have been multiple and possibly conflicting reports about what the Atlanta Hawks, ****** inga's last NBA team, are seeking in a sign-and-trade deal from the Lakers. Reportedly, ****** inga has been seeking a contract in the area of $25 million a year, but it seems unlikely that he will actually be offered that much money.
While ****** inga has yet to fulfill the tremendous potential people have seen in him ever since he was the No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft, he could at least be a temporary solution to the Lakers' need for a legitimate starting two-way forward. Mychal Thompson, a former big man who won two NBA championships with the Lakers in 1987 and 1988, made his argument for ****** inga joining the Purple and Gold, per ESPN Los Angeles.
"I wish I had Jonathan ****** inga's phone number… He needs to sign with the Lakers. Talk about a great opportunity for him. He'd come in as a starter… Play on a high-profile team like the Lakers. Everybody around the league is gonna see you. He could run the floor. He can go out and get alley-oop dunks from Luka Doncic. This will set him up for his future if he ends up signing. I don't know what's taken him so long."
Kuminga's focus, dedication, work ethic and perhaps even his coachability have been questioned over the last few years. But as Thompson mentioned, he is a dynamite threat in transition, and he also has the ability to play defense at a high level.
