Lucas Fernando is a new name to watch in the light heavyweight division after he dismantled and then destroyed Rafael Tobias on the UFC 330 prelims on Saturday night.
Training under a pair of legends in Pedro Rizzo and Andre Pederneiras, Fernando definitely has plenty of experience to draw upon even though it was his octagon debut. Fernando showed patience and precision as he blasted Tobias with a variety of strikes including a nasty jab that earned him a knockdown.
Finally in the third round, Fernando had Tobias guessing with his every move and that's when he unleashed a devastating knee up the middle that blasted his fellow Brazilian in the body. Tobias has a delayed reaction but he soon grimaced in pain before crumbling to the canvas where the referee rushed in to stop the fight.
The end came at 1:10 in the third round.
"Thanks to Mick Maynard for putting me here along with my manager Jason House," Fernando said after his win. "Whoever they put in the fight, I'll be ready to go."

Sheffield Wednesday have signed goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer on a one-year deal and Hull City striker Mason Burstow on a season-long loan deal.
Maynard-Brewer, 27, was a free agent after leaving Dundee United earlier this summer.
Burstow, 22, spent last season on loan in League One with Bolton and scored 12 goals in 53 appearances as they won promotion to the Championship.
"After a breakout season last year with Bolton Wanderers, Mason is a terrific signing for us," sporting director Simon Wilson told the club website.
Maynard-Brewer, who made 70 league appearances for Charlton before moving to Dundee United in January, is the second goalkeeper to join the Owls in as many days after Connal Trueman signed on Thursday.

The Townies were the lone Rhode Island team to defeat Bishop Hendricken during the regular season, but the tables were turned to start this best-of-three Division I championship series. Steve Maynard escaped an early jam and his offense backed him to the tune of a 10-0 victory via the mercy rule in just five innings.
Brett Knight’s two-run single to center in the bottom of the fifth capped a six-run frame and was the last in an 11-hit attack against East Providence left-hander Ben Hallene. Parker Boyd started the fire with a two-run triple to deep center in the third and it was all Hawks from there under warm sunshine.
“We knew from our reports that he threw a lot of off-speed, a lot of curveballs,” Boyd said. “All week we worked on the off-speed on the machines.”

LAS VEGAS – Matt Schnell probably has a lot of emotion riding on his fight this week.
For starters, Schnell (17-10 MMA, 7-8 UFC) was supposed to fight Alessandro Costa (15-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC) in a flyweight bout in September 2024. But Costa pulled out of the fight, and Schnell fought Cody Durden, instead, on short notice.
The result was a submission loss early in the second round, and Schnell isn't at all thrilled about what went down in the minutes afterward. He took his gloves off and left them in the center of the cage – the universal-ish combat sports sign a fighter has decided to retire.
But Schnell was back a half-year later like nothing ever happened with the whole glove thing. Looking back on the glove laydown situation, the 36-year-old probably would've done something different.
"I think I just pitched a fit there in that moment, and I also thought the UFC was going to cut me," Schnell told MMA Junkie and other media members Wednesday ahead of UFC Fight Night 278. "Hunter (Campbell) met me in the back, and I've got a great relationship with Mick Maynard, but I don't want to leverage that type of thing. I thought it might be my last one, so I figured get ahead of it a little bit and just retire. (Then I could say) I didn't get cut – I retired.
