On September 13, 2001, Lillian Garcia stood in the center of a WWE ring — alone — with tens of thousands of eyeballs on her at the Compaq Center in Houston, Texas. Normally the WWE's ring announcer, Garcia had been tasked with a nominal-turned-monumental duty — singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" — two days after the most significant terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
More than 1,600 miles away, in the shadows of the ever-altered New York City skyline, 10-year-old Thea Trinidad watched — as she always did — after experiencing an upheaval most do at some point in their life, but few as suddenly as her.
"That one's specifically always stuck out to me," Trinidad, a former WWE champion who performed under the alias Zelina Vega, tells Uncrowned. "I remember that one specifically, I saw all of the wrestlers get really emotional and seeing Lillian, still I always tell her: 'Yours is still my favorite to hear.'
"It just felt like, in that moment, the thing that I loved most was kind of shining a light on my dad. In a way, it kind of felt like it was just for 9/11, and it felt like it was just for those people. And I think in a weird way, it was important for us to feel that, because everyone else just felt like you were a thing, like a spectacle. You were someone to look at. You almost felt like you were the circus animal, and you were like, 'Oh, look, they dealt with that,' or, 'Oh, look, her dad died.' It just felt like wrestling was the thing that I've always felt seen in."

An 8-year-old has died after contracting a rare brain-eating amoeba believed to have been encountered while swimming in a lake near her home, her family and health officials said.
Lillian Smart, who lived in Ruston in northern Louisiana, died in the hospital over the weekend, shortly after turning 8, according to her parents.
"Last night Lillian ran from our arms to the arms of Jesus," her family said in a post on Facebook Sunday morning. "The injuries to her brain were too severe for her little body to recover from," the post read.
The family earlier wrote Lillian had experienced significant brain swelling "as a result of the parasite."
The Louisiana Department of Health announced last week a resident had likely contracted the organism, known as Naegleria fowleri, while swimming in Lake Claiborne which is about 30 miles northwest of Ruston.

Three players from the Lackawanna League earned major awards when the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches ******* ociation released its all-state team Monday.
Abbi Call of Valley View was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, Avary Brister from Abington Heights was selected the Class 5A Player of the Year, while teammate Adrianna Condrad was chosen Class 5A Pitcher of the Year.
Also, from the Wyoming Valley Conference, Lake-Lehman’s Hannah Chipego was tabbed as Class 3A Pitcher of the Year and Tunkhannock’s Michaela Howell as Class 4A Pitcher of the Year.
Overall, 41 players from District 2 were honored, including 28 from the Lackawanna League — 15 of them first-teamers.
Class 1A runner-up Holy Cross had five players: pitcher Ava Schmidt, catcher Peyton Graboske, second baseman Lila Kolcharno and outfielder Claire Helring on the first team, and shortstop Jules Galella on the second team. Old Forge put two players on the second team in shortstop Lillianna Lenceski and outfielder Ava Arnold.

Lillian Droniak, the social media creator known online as Grandma Droniak, claimed in a viral video that she received a formal warning over late-night parties in her room. People reported that she posted the clip to TikTok and Instagram on June 11.
Droniak said the letter warned that parties were not allowed, alcohol could not be served to other residents, and repeated incidents could affect her visitor privileges or residency status.
Her answer was not exactly an apology. Droniak told viewers she pays $12,000 a month to live there and still planned to have her girlfriends over to drink and gossip.
In the video, Droniak read from what she described as a warning letter from the retirement home. People reported that the letter cited noise complaints, gatherings in her room, alcohol being served to other residents, and people leaving her room around 1 a.m.
