Julian Justvan and Piet Scobel helped Miroslav Klose's Nürnberg to a comeback derby win away at Greuther Fürth. The hosts took the lead twice in the first-half before two second-half goals left them undone in the 277th Franconian derby.
Felix Klaus, who has been sensational since returning to his boyhood club last summer, opened the scoring from a penalty-kick in the midpoint of the first 45 minutes. It took only four minutes for the visitors to level the score, as 21-year-old Scobel continued his fine pre-season form with his first official goal of the season.
Both teams had disallowed goals before Fürth's new captain Klaus scored with a composed finish three minutes after VAR denied him a brace. However, Nürnberg once again responded immediately, as Scobel and Justvan repeated their link-up, with the latter beating 18-year-old goalkeeper Florian ****** stern.
It was a different story after the break as Klose's troops completely dominated the game as they deservedly took the lead for the first time with Justvan's finish from outside the box. Klaus had another opportunity for a hat-trick minutes after the hour mark, but his weak penalty-kick was saved by Jan Reichert.
Scobel, who only had two goals throughout last season, grabbed his second fifteen minutes from time to seal the three points. The former St. Pauli youngster also scored four goals in pre-season.

Sierra Kerr (AUS) and Jake Marshall (USA) claimed momentous breakthrough victories as the U.S. Open concluded a historic 9-day event in Surf City, USA.
HUNTINGTON BEACH — The 2026 edition of the U.S. Open of Surfing may go down as the best of all-time, which spans back to 1959. Stop No. 2 of the 2026-27 World Surf League (WSL) Challenger Series provided everything the Pacific Ocean could throw at the world's top contenders and elite long boarders. Hurricane Genevieve made its way north from Mexico and provided some of the best waves Huntington Beach had seen in years.
The men's final featured an all-Southern California matchup between Marshall, an Encinitas resident seeking his first Open crown, and Huntington Beach native Kanoa Igarashi, who entered the final looking to win the event for a third time.
Marshall secured his place in the championship heat with victories over Brazil's Gabriel Klaussner and San Clemente's Hayden Rodgers. Igarashi advanced by eliminating Peru's Lucca Mesinas and fellow SoCal resident, Griffin Colapinto.
With the **** le still undecided in the closing minutes, both finalists found opportunities on late waves. Marshall posted a decisive eight-point ride, forcing Igarashi to chase a 7.38 on his final attempt. The two-time champion was unable to find the required score, allowing Marshall to celebrate the biggest victory of his career in front of friends and family.

Many current players and legends alike, such as Rory McIlroy, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, are in favor of this move, although there are questions being raised about how effective the new golf ball will be at reducing distance.
Meanwhile, DeChambeau has argued that fans want to see players hit the ball as far as humanly possible. He says being able to drive the ball over 350 yards is a feat of human accomplishment, and it's good for the game.

Scottie Scheffler is looking up at one of the most exciting rookies on the PGA Tour heading into the second round of the 2026 3M Open.
The world No. 1 started out strong with a 6-under 65, three strokes behind Ben Kohles. But the one to watch early on is Jackson Koivun, the 21-year-old who won the Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Fred Haskins award twice apiece at Auburn. In his third tournament as a full card-carrying PGA Tour member, Koivun shot a bogey-free round of 7-under 64. He's tied with Emiliano Grillo after Round 1.
Lucas Glover, Gary Woodland and Michael Brennan look to climb farther up the leaderboard today. There's a lot of room for movement around the cut line at TPC Twin Cities, with Hideki Matsuyama among those right on the projected cut line.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Stewart Cink got off to a great start in a bid to win his third straight senior major.
Cink was the only player to make five birdies on the back nine at Scioto Country Club on Thursday, shooting a 3-under 67 for a share of the first-round lead in the U.S. Senior Open with Charlie Wi.
Cink struggled on the front nine, shooting a 2-over 37, but found momentum once he made the turn.
“I’ve been off for a little while, and I started like I’ve been off for a little while. I had to prove it to myself again that I could play decent golf a certain way,” Cink said. “The back nine was really nice. I actually could have shot quite a bit lower on the back nine. I missed three very reasonably like inside — right around 10 feet or less birdie putts.”
The 53-year-old Cink has four wins in nine PGA Tour Champions starts this year, including the Senior PGA Championship and the Tradition. The last player to win the Senior PGA, Tradition and U.S. Senior Open in the same year was Jack Nicklaus in 1991. Scioto, the Donald Ross course hosting its third U.S. Senior Open, is where Nicklaus learned to play the game.

Butch Harmon has suggested that Scottie Scheffler has the same ability Tiger Woods had to have complete control over his irons.

The PGA Tour is changing its season format, but how will the changes affect the status of the Memorial Tournament?
On June 23, the PGA announced it will begin featuring two different series of tournaments starting in 2028: the PGA Tour Championship Series as the top flight of competition, and the PGA Tour Challenger Series below it. The format will allow players to move up or down based on performance with a new relegation system.
The changes also mean an adjustment to the PGA Tour schedule, with 23 or 24 events lined up for the PGA Tour Championship Series.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — The U.S. Open brought big wind and not nearly as much activity for a Monday, typical these days of practice rounds at majors that move to a different course each year.
More players are coming early, not so much to avoid the rush but to avoid the wait.
“It’s gotten terrible,” Justin Thomas said leading into the third major of the year. “You have to sign up for tee times at the (British) Open and U.S. Open, and then people sign up with you and play in a foursomes. You can’t play nine holes in less than three hours.”
The way around that is to follow a script from Jack Nicklaus back in his prime — see the course early before it becomes populated with pros and amateurs, contenders and dreamers.
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy took a detour on their way to Ohio two weeks ago to play Shinnecock Hills, the first time seeing it for the No. 1 player, a refresher course for McIlroy.

Shinnecock is hosting the U.S. Open June 18-21, for the sixth time. James Foulis won the first one there in 1896. Other winners include Raymond Floyd (1986), Corey Pavin (1995), Retief Goosen (2004) and Brooks Koepka (2018).

Donald Ross built the course in 1907, and 2029 will mark the fifth time for the U.S. Open to be played there. Pinehurst is an "anchor" host site. Bryson DeChambeau won his second U.S. Open at No. 2 in 2024. Payne Stewart made a memorable 18-foot par putt in 1999 to edge Phil Mickelson. DUBLIN, Ohio -- For 13 holes in his final round Sunday at the Memorial Tournament, J.T. Poston played like a guy who hadn’t finished inside the top 20 all season. It was almost as if he reckoned, based on his form the first five months this year, that he shouldn’t be leading Jack Nicklaus’ signature event. And as he reached the 14th tee, he was, indeed, no longer in the lead, having squandered all of his four-shot cushion after 54 holes.
But folding never entered his mind.
“I'm not a quitter, so I hung in there,” Poston said after consecutive bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13 left him three over par in the final round and trailing for the first time since Thursday. “I just told myself … I mean, I hit a great putt on 13, right where I wanted and just didn't fall. But I told myself on 14 tee I was one back with five to go, still felt like I had a chance. I needed to play the last five holes really well. And I told myself I knew I was going to be shaking Mr. Nicklaus' hand walking off 18 no matter what, and I want to be proud of the effort when I did. So just to do it the way that I did, birdieing three of the last five, is a dream come true and something I'll certainly carry with me the rest of my career.”

Jack’s Place gave players fits on Friday.
“I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today,” said world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who managed to do better than that with an even-par 72, but it wasn't always pretty.
Ryan Gerard, who sits alone in second at the Memorial Tournament, called Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb of Jack Nicklaus’s hometown of Columbus, “a monster.”
J.T. Poston wasn’t complaining too much after a tourney-best 7-under 65, but even he conceded he’d had a special day.
“Every year it's a great test. It's going to expose a part of your game that's not sharp. I think that's what we love,” he said. “It feels like a major a lot of times, a lot of weeks.”

For many of the golfers teeing it up at Muirfield at Jack’s Place, it will be their final tune-up before the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in two weeks.
The first Memorial Tournament took place in 1976, with Roger Maltbie defeating Hale Irwin in a playoff. The next year Jack Nicklaus would go on to win the tournament that he hosts. The second **** le for the Golden Bear came in 1984. Nicklaus is one of six golfers with two wins at the Memorial.
Last year Scottie Scheffler had little trouble winning the tournament for a second straight year, beating Ben Griffin by four strokes.
This year Scheffler will try and join Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the Memorial in three straight years. Woods has won the Memorial five times during his career, which is the most of any golfer. When Woods won in 2012 he registered his 73rd PGA Tour victory, which tied Nicklaus for second-most at the time.

DUBLIN, Ohio — Jack Nicklaus never said he wanted the Memorial Tournament to be the “Masters of the North” when it began 50 years ago. The best sales pitch was to let others do the talking.
It never really came to that over the years, anyway, except it was clear Nicklaus found inspiration from the Masters, the major he won a record six times. It wasn’t about Muirfield Village trying to replicate Augusta National. It was more about the tournament experience unlike any other in the non-major division.
Never mind the caddies in white coverall tops or sandwiches in a green wrapper and coffee in green cups. His emphasis outside the ropes was on players being treated in such a way the Memorial stood out from other PGA Tour events.
But it’s getting harder to stand out in this era of big money and players getting pampered more than Nicklaus or anyone else could have imagined 50 years ago.
The $20 million purse at the Memorial is the same size as nine other tournaments, and that doesn’t include The Players Championship ($25 million), the majors or the Tour Championship, where the $40 million bonus is now official money.
