Dodgers president Stan Kasten attempted to calm online speculation about the future of the franchise under billionaire owner Mark Walter on Friday.
"The Dodgers are not being sold. They're not for sale. There's no process that has been started to sell it, period," Kasten told reporters on the field before the team's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "We are planning only to win."
The conjecture began earlier this month when Walter agreed to a stunning sale of the Los Angeles Lakers to businessmen Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for a record-breaking price of $12.5 billion, according to sources. Walter bought a controlling stake in the franchise from the Buss family last year.
"I can't tell you how important the Dodgers are to Mark," Kasten said. "The Lakers thing? The Lakers were important to him too, but it's kind of an extraordinary opportunity, which he took."
Multiple media outlets last month reported that Walter's business empire is under scrutiny from federal prosecutors and the Securities and Exchange Commission in tax fraud investigations. Walter is cooperating with the investigation.

Will the Dodgers be heading toward new ownership? Will Mark Walter sell the World Series champions? These rumors have circulated among baseball fans since Walter sold the LA Lakers for $12.5 billion, just months after acquiring a controlling stake in the NBA franchise from the Buss family.
According to reports, the DOJ is investigating the CEO of Guggenheim Partners over alleged loan fraud, which allegedly prompted Walter to sell his majority stake in the Lakers.
As speculation intensifies, team president and part-owner Stan Kasten was asked by the media to explain the developments involving Walter and the federal investigation.
"I'm not contemplating anything about the investigation. If you are prepared to already conclude the investigation before anyone else is, you can do that. But that's what you're trying to do. I'm not going to do that," Kasten told the media.
When a reporter drew comparisons between Walter and the way the previous owner, Frank McCourt, ran the ballclub into bankruptcy, Kasten said such an "inappropriate" comparison should not be made.

LA Dodgers owner Mark Walter's reported financial issues have led to speculation that the team will be sold. However, team president Stan Kasten says that is not a concern.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have enjoyed a dream run on the field for the last two seasons. The team has a chance to win their third consecutive World Series ******* le this year.
With all this success, Mark Walter and the ownership have received a lot of love from fans. But things are turning sour quickly, after it was redported that Walter is under federal investigation over dubious loans.
Walter has sold his stake in the LA Lakers, and is in talks to sell off his share in soccer club Chelsea FC, too. Naturally, this led to fears the Dodgers might be next, but the team president is trying to allay those concerns.

Tommy John's name will live on in baseball forever, long after his excellent 26-year major league pitching career ended. John died on Saturday at age 83, and will be long remembered for being the first to undergo the surgery that bears his name.
John's baseball accolades on their own are mind-boggling. He played in 26 major league seasons, matched only in the modern era by Nolan Ryan, who pitched in 27 years. John is one of only eight pitchers to make 700 starts, and he pitched a whopping 4,710 1/3 innings in his major league career.
With the Dodgers, John led the National League in winning percentage in each of his first two seasons, including 13-3 for a pennant-winning team in 1974. But he didn't pitch that year after July 17, sidelined by an elbow injury. That September, Dr. Frank Jobe tried a new elbow reconstruction surgery, replacing the ulnar collateral ligament in John's left elbow.
"Tommy was an exceptional pitcher throughout his career in Major League Baseball, and his courageous role in becoming the first to have surgery that would go on to bear his name can't be overstated," Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said. "His impact both on and off the field has been felt by ballplayers of all ages and will be for generations to come."
After the first such procedure that would ultimately bear his name, John rehabbed in 1975 but returned to make at least 30 starts for his next seven full seasons, a stretch interrupted only by a strike-shortened 1981 season in which he started 20 games and pitched 140 1/3 innings.
