WASHINGTON, Oct 2 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said the US government will send a one-time $90 payment to more than 20 million ‌Americans enrolled in Medicare, a health insurance program for the elderly, ‌to help offset the cost of their monthly medical insurance premiums.
Trump said on social media late on Friday the payments will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which he said was given $2 billion by Congress to improve the Medicare fee-for-service program.
The announcement is the latest in a series of financial promises the Republican leader has made to ‌voters heading into the November midterm elections where control of Congress is at stake.
Trump's Republican Party currently has a narrow majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives but his approval rating has been low over his handling of the high cost of living for Americans during the US-Israeli war on Iran that has spiked oil and gas prices.

WASHINGTON, Aug 27 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's administration has issued a memo for universities that seeks to restrict issuance of certain internship work ‌authorizations for international students as the federal government warned that colleges not complying with the regulations may lose certification ‌to enroll foreign students.
The federal memo dated August 24 said the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, which is part of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, has "observed a rise in Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorizations that appear to violate regulatory requirements which permit CPT only where the training is an integral part of an established curriculum."
"Failure to comply with SEVP regulations may result in an institution losing certification to enroll foreign students," the memo said.

WASHINGTON, Aug 25 (Reuters) - New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on Tuesday he did not support an upcoming event in his city featuring the leader ‌of the Hindu nationalist group that is the ideological parent of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata ‌Party (BJP).
Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), is scheduled to speak at a Manhattan event on Saturday, according to the event's website.
"I don't support the rally, but I don't know if the city has any jurisdiction on cancelling a private event," Mamdani, who is the first Muslim and Indian American mayor of New York City, said when asked if the event should be cancelled.
"The vision of India that I was taught ‌by my family and one that I grew up being very familiar with was of a pluralistic society of a secular Republic that believed in the belonging of each and every person who was from India. And it has been incredibly troubling to see the rise of a movement that is predicated on an exclusionary vision."

"At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshalled against an adversary," Bessent wrote in an opinion piece published in the Financial Times on Sunday.

Aug 4 (Reuters) - Recently listed U.S. shares of SK Hynix rose 5% after six brokerages started coverage of the South Korean chipmaker ‌with bullish ratings, citing its dominance in the booming AI memory ‌market and access to a broader global investor base.
The American Depositary Receipts of SK Hynix, whose primary listing is in Seoul, were last up at $150.08 on Tuesday. However, they are trading 16% below their July 10 listing price due to a recent pullback in semiconductor stocks.
The company had priced its ADRs at $149 for the secondary listing and ‌raised about $26.5 billion, aided by strong investor interest in AI-focused high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips.
Massive AI infrastructure spending has fueled demand for HBM chips, driving up prices and making memory manufacturers key beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence boom.

WASHINGTON, July 20 (Reuters) - Civil rights groups said they filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's administration on Monday over the government's attempt to restrict federal ‌childcare and family ******* istance funding.
The American Civil Liberties Union, the National Women's Law Center ‌and the National Center for Law and Economic Justice said in the lawsuit against the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that they sought correspondence between federal officials and pro-Trump right-wing online influencer Nick Shirley.
A viral video by Shirley in late 2025 was publicly amplified and credited by senior administration officials as the basis for the attempted funding restrictions.
The video alleged some childcare centers in Minnesota were fraudulent. News reports subsequently ‌said the claims were misleading and exaggerated.

WASHINGTON, July 1 (Reuters) - Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said on Wednesday he was shutting down his office's Conviction ‌Review Unit that looked into potential wrongful convictions, attributing the ‌decision to funding suspension by the Trump administration.
"Following the Trump Administration's refusal to renew federal grant funding that supported the program, my Office is suspending our Conviction Review Unit," Ellison said in a statement.
"Current budget constraints do not allow the program's costs to be absorbed without compromising other core responsibilities."
The unit ‌was formed in 2020 and started accepting applications to review cases in 2021. Ellison said it had received a $300,000 grant for its initial two years to fund the work of an attorney and the grant was renewed at $500,000 for a period of two more years.

WASHINGTON, June 24 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday it may never be known who was ‌at fault for a deadly strike on a girls' school in ‌Iran on February 28, the first day of the Iran war, that killed scores of children.
Reuters first reported in March that an initial internal U.S. military investigation showed U.S. forces were likely responsible for the fatal strike in Minab in southern Iran. The Pentagon has since elevated the probe but it has not acknowledged any preliminary findings.
"I ‌don't know that they are ever going to solve that problem," Trump told reporters.
"I don't know that they are ever going to solve that problem in terms of whose fault was it because there were missiles flying all over the place, and it's horrible what happened but there were missiles flying all over the place," he said.
