WASHINGTON, July 20 (Reuters) - Civil rights groups said they filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's administration on Monday over the government's attempt to restrict federal childcare and family ******* istance funding.
The American Civil Liberties Union, the National Women's Law Center and the National Center for Law and Economic Justice said in the lawsuit against the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that they sought correspondence between federal officials and pro-Trump right-wing online influencer Nick Shirley.
A viral video by Shirley in late 2025 was publicly amplified and credited by senior administration officials as the basis for the attempted funding restrictions.
The video alleged some childcare centers in Minnesota were fraudulent. News reports subsequently said the claims were misleading and exaggerated.

A California couple is suing a luxury country club daycare center after they say their 23-month-old son suffered a traumatic brain injury when an employee swung him through her legs, tossed him several feet into the air and failed to catch him, according to a lawsuit.
Matthew Kittle, Elena Kittle and their minor son, identified in the complaint only as C.K., filed the lawsuit against The Bay Clubs Company, LLC in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The lawsuit paints a disturbing picture of what the Kittle family says happened March 17, inside The Clubhouse at Bay Club El Segundo, a 14,000-square-foot childcare center advertised as a place for children to participate in supervised play and organized activities.

A California family is suing a fitness club after video appeared to show a childcare worker throwing and dropping their son. According to the lawsuit, the toddler suffered a traumatic brain injury and vision issues as a result. As women’s cricket continues its rapid professional growth and offers longer-term career opportunities, an increasing number of players are opting to start families while remaining active in the sport. Recognising this shift, the ICC has developed the guidelines as part of its wider focus on player welfare and the advancement of the women’s game.
Player health and wellbeing remain key priorities within the ICC’s strategy for women’s cricket. The governing body has also expanded its women’s health initiatives through its 100% Cricket movement, which seeks to improve education, encourage awareness and promote open discussions around health-related topics in cricketing environments.
The newly launched guidelines are designed to ***** ist Member Boards in creating their own pregnancy and return-to-play policies that align with local laws while prioritising player welfare. They provide practical recommendations covering both physical and mental aspects of recovery and reintegration into the sport.
Central to the framework is a six-stage model known as the "6 Rs" — Ready, Review, Restore, Recondition, Return and Refine. The process covers the period immediately after childbirth, medical ***** sments, wellbeing reviews, progressive training plans, cricket-specific preparation, a return to competition and ongoing monitoring once players re-enter the professional setup.
