As Oak Grove football defensive lineman Deven Robertson celebrated a sack late in the second quarter against Hattiesburg, his crimson-colored, Oklahoma Sooner-branded gloves provided a pop of color that was a contrast to Oak Grove's all black uniforms.
The Oklahoma commit and the rest of the Warriors' defense were dominant in Oak Grove's 36-20 win over Hattiesburg on Sept. 12.
"We've got a good defense," Oak Grove coach Drew Causey said. "We've got guys over there that are really, really good."
The Warriors (2-1) held Hattiesburg (1-2) to 287 yards of total offense and forced two fumbles, one of which they returned 35 yards for a touchdown.
"The defense came and we played as a group," Robertson said. "We weren't selfish, we all came and played as one and played with effort."

Southern Miss football will have a lot of new faces to start the 2026 season.
The Golden Eagles host Alcorn State (1-0) on Sept. 5 (4 p.m. CT, ESPN+) at Renasant Stadium.
The Golden Eagles finished 7-6 in 2025, but most of the team's contributors from last year are gone. Coach Blake Anderson and his staff spent the offseason adding over 70 new scholarship players to the team, so Week 1 will give fans their first look at the revamped roster.
Southern Miss has opened the season against an FCS opponent nine times since the subdivision was established in 1978 and has a perfect record in those games. The program's most recent season opener against an FCS school was against Alcorn State in 2023, a game it won 40-14.
The Hattiesburg American will provide updates from the game. Follow along.

Southern Miss baseball picked up its fourth transfer commitment since the season ended, landing former Florida and Northwest Florida State College catcher and outfielder Brock Clayton.
"See you in Hattiesburg," Clayton wrote June 17 on social media.
Clayton, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound redshirt sophomore, was originally committed to South Carolina, but reopened his recruitment on June 12, one day after the Gamecocks hired former Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall to take over the program.
After redshirt season at Florida, Clayton transferred to Northwest Florida State College, a junior college in Niceville, Florida. There, the lefty played in 49 games and had a batting average of .353. He hit nine home runs, 42 RBIs and stole eight bases.
On April 18 against Gulf Coast State College, Clayton went 4-for-4, hit two home runs, drove in six runs and stole two bases.

It's a season of firsts for Troy baseball, some more inauspicious than others. First appearance in super regionals. First College World Series appearance. And on a broader scale, first 30-loss team to make the College World Series.
Troy competed in the brutal Sun Belt, headlined by Hattiesburg Regional hosts Southern Miss. Though the Golden Eagles were bounced without winning a game, the Trojans were able to survive Gainesville by way of 26 runs over two games against the Gators to make it out of the loser's bracket and get to supers. From there, they drubbed Little Rock by a combined score of 19-4 as super regional hosts.

Then, in the College World Series, they were edged out in their first ever CWS game by West Virginia before taking it to Ole Miss 12-8. So who is this Troy team hitting the cover off the ball, looking like it's having more fun than anyone in Omaha? From Jimmy Janicki to Jabe Boroff to Zach Crotchfelt, it's a team brimming with personality.
By now, CWS fans have likely heard it mentioned that Troy, which hosted a super regional for the first time ever this year, is in Alabama. But where exactly is it? Here's what to know of the last team representing The Yellowhammer State in Omaha.
