SEOUL, Aug 15 (Reuters) - South Korean President Lee Jae Myung called on Saturday for talks with North ‌Korea to pursue peaceful coexistence, saying Seoul would seek ‌safeguards to prevent conflict and noting the need to replace the peninsula's armistice with a "peace regime".
In a speech marking the anniversary of Korea's liberation from ******* anese colonial rule, Lee said the two Koreas should hold a sit-down for coexistence.
He urged dialogue between North ‌Korea and concerned parties ⁠to end the 1950-53 Korean War, which was stopped by a ceasefire, not a peace ⁠treaty, and said discussions could also explore effective measures to curb Pyongyang's nuclear capabilities.
Lee said Seoul would take preemptive and sustained steps to ease tensions and build layered safeguards to contain escalation.
Lee's ‌call largely builds on his pledge last year to respect North Korea's system and seek peaceful coexistence with Pyongyang.

LIV Golf 1.0 — the era of big talk and bigger paychecks — is over. Whatever comes next for the breakaway tour, cut loose by Saudi Arabian funding and now on the hunt for outside investment, the days of "Golf But Louder" are done.
Without a doubt, LIV fundamentally changed the structure of men's professional golf, forcing the PGA Tour into reworking its entire structure, schedule and financial model. LIV altered the professional arcs of some of the game's greatest players, gave others the opportunity to destroy their own reputations, and provided a pathway back to prominence for the once-lost Anthony Kim. LIV also brought the concept of sportswashing into the mainstream of the American sports conversation, forcing sports fans to decide just how much politics they were willing to accept with their sports.
That's a ****** of an impact in just a few short years, but that also leads into another LIV lesson: the impossibility of competing with the established American sports framework. Even a league funded by bottomless oil wealth ultimately couldn't compete with a vulnerable legacy organization.
So what does that mean? Competing with the PGA Tour is a lost cause for LIV, so coexistence is now the only path forward. And if LIV is going to survive and thrive in the years to come, version 2.0 will need to learn from the mistakes of its predecessor. And oh, are there plenty of lessons to learn.
LIV Golf fired off the tee in 2021 with swagger, attitude and arrogance, largely mirroring the personality of firebrand Greg Norman. Longtime PGA Tour antagonists like Norman and Phil Mickelson spoke openly (and in court filings) of wanting to upend the Tour's entire business model, torching the very house in which they'd grown wealthy. That didn't sit well with Tour traditionalists, and the badass playacting came off as more silly than intimidating. You're smacking a little white ball around a field, gentlemen. Let's not pretend this is armed combat.

FC Bayern is lighting up its Allianz Arena in the colours of Disability Pride Month, which is taking place for the first time in Munich, from 21-23:00 CEST on Friday. Red represents physical disabilities, yellow stands for cognitive disabilities, white signifies invisible disabilities, blue symbolises mental illnesses, green represents sensory disabilities and black is in memory of people who died due to discrimination. It’s a visible sign of respect, self-determination and an inclusive society. Together with the state capital of Munich, the German champions are sending out a clear signal: people with disabilities are, of course, an integral part of society – including in sport and in the stadium.
“FC Bayern stands for diversity and does a lot to raise awareness of the lives of people with disabilities,” explained disability officer Kim Krämer. “The club has been carrying out various inclusion-focused projects for many years. The fact that FC Bayern and the City of Munich are now sending out a visible sign in Disability Pride Month is another step on the road towards a natural coexistence. The illumination of the Allianz Arena is a strong signal that everyone belongs at FC Bayern, and that they can get involved and help to shape the club – regardless of disability.”
FC Bayern is constantly working on making the Allianz Arena and its general offerings as accessible as possible, in consultation with the fans. For example, there are now 324 wheelchair ******* es in the stadium, as well as commentary for the blind, a delivery service to the seats, live subtitles for people with hearing impairment and the presentation of the line-ups in sign language for men’s, women’s and basketball matches on the website. Information in simple language also makes it easier for people to find their way around. The club is continuously optimising its digital offerings to enable as many people as possible to access them independently.

France star Kylian Mbappé on Monday condemned a Paraguayan senator over racist remarks she made following Paraguay’s loss to France in the round of 16 at the World Cup.
Mbappé called Celeste Amarilla, a senator from Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, a “despicable woman” who was “unworthy” of serving in Paraguay's Congress.
“Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup,” Mbappé wrote on X.
Amarilla posted a series of racist comments on X after Mbappé converted the winning penalty in France’s victory over Paraguay on Saturday, mocking the French captain’s origins, upbringing, education and appearance. France advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face Morocco on Thursday.
The Paraguayan government released a statement Monday afternoon condemning Amarilla’s remarks as “contrary to the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity that our country promotes.” It added that the senator’s comments do not represent either the Paraguayan government or the Paraguayan people.

A special highlight this year: 'QUEERPASS Bayern' is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The fan club members look forward to welcoming everyone who joins them at the CSD from 12:00 CEST onwards to send a joint message of diversity, tolerance and respectful coexistence. The meeting point is from 11.15 by the float with start number 123 in Block E on Erhardtstraße, on the corner of Zweibrückenstraße. This year, the walking group will be accompanied by two FCB vehicles, including one with its own DJ booth. Mascots Berni and Mia will also be joining in once again.
For the first time, in collaboration with ‘QUEERPASS Bayern’, ‘Red against Racism’ will also be present throughout the day with its own information stand, to create a **** e for discussion about diversity in sport.
