PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — JJ Williams leads Rhode Island FC with eight goals, and has been with the club since their start in 2024. According to Tom Bogert of The Athletic, Williams is closing in on a deal to join Heart of Midlothian F.C. in Scotland. Williams was not at Rhode Island's practice on Friday morning.
Regardless if Williams is with the team Saturday night against Monterey Bay or not, their main focus is getting a win. Morgan Weaver reports.

Philadelphia Union set to sign USMNT defender from Ligue 1 side originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The last offseason saw the Philadelphia Union dump several former players to other teams in the league, including their leading goalscorer from the prior season, Tai Baribo, to DC United; Jakob Glesnes to the LA Galaxy; and Kai Wagner to EFL Championship side Birmingham City. Simply put, some of the bigger names for the clubs all went in a single window.
This fleet of departures wasn't helped out at all after the team failed to make any meaningful signings in the transfer market, which could've been a key contributing factor in why the team went from the top team in the Eastern Conference last season to dead last heading into the World Cup break earlier in the Summer.
Just as the team appears to be getting itself together, chaining some crucial wins in the MLS and shooting up the table in a last-ditch playoff push, the front office has been busy adding to the roster, mainly their defense.
According to a recent report by The Athletic's Tom Bogert, Philadelphia is nearing a deal to bring Mark McKenzie back to Subaru Park, six years after his departure from the MLS, with the deal being close to $2.5 million.

New England Revolution nearing transfer move for Leeds Winger originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Revolution resumed their season on Wednesday night after the MLS's lengthy break for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, doing so in a goalless draw against Toronto FC. The Revolution failed to convert on their four shots on target, failing to make the most out of their 64 percent possession throughout the match.
This isn't something that is too uncommon for New England's offense as they sit in the middle of the pack for goals scored at the moment, but well below any other team in the upper half of the Eastern Conference table, where they sit nestled in at the fourth spot. But that could change in the coming days, as it's been reported that the Revolution is about to add some Premier League experience to its squad.
As reported by The Athletic's Tom Bogert, the Revolution are in the final stages of a move for Leeds United's Jack Harrison, with the fee for the move being undisclosed. Harrison spent last season split between the Premier League with the Peacocks and the Serie A with Fiorentina, playing a total of 35 matches, recording four goal involvements across the two leagues.
At the peak of his powers at Elland Road, Harrison was a constant threat on the offensive end of the pitch, recording 64 goal involvements, with 34 of those coming from his foot to the back of the net, all over a five-season stretch.

USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino strongly believes they are not yet among the top contenders for this year’s World Cup.
The Stars and Stripes opened their campaign with convincing wins against Paraguay (4-1) and Australia (2-0) before narrowly losing to Turkey (3-2) in the group stage finale. As a result, they’ve drawn Bosnia and Herzegovina, who were third in Group B, as their first knockout opponents.
“First of all, I don’t believe that we are the favorites. We see in the last few days how difficult it is for all teams. I understand that maybe because we host the World Cup and we are here, but I think we have full respect for Bosnia,” Pochettino told reporters via Tom Bogert of The Athletic.
To Pochettino’s point, the USA have lost their past 10 matches against European sides. Ironically, their last win against a European nation came in a 2021 friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
