Kohl's is rolling out steep discounts for customers as it struggles to turn around its sales.
The department store chain revealed in its most recent earnings report that its comparable sales decreased 0.9% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, while recent Placer.ai data showed overall visits to Kohl's stores declined 1.4%.
Kohl's CEO Michael Bender said on the August earnings call that the company is "operating in a challenging macroeconomic environment" where customers are "experiencing persistent financial pressures from inflation in their everyday expenses, like gas and food."
Against this backdrop, Kohl's has taken several steps to make its merchandise more affordable. It introduced Deal Bar and Toy Towers in stores earlier this year, featuring products priced below $10. It also priced thousands of back-to-school items under $25 in July.
In its latest effort to win over price-conscious customers, Kohl's has made its annual Kohl's Deal Days savings event more generous this year.

Estes Express Lines is investing nearly $56 million to expand its cross-border and offshore freight network, including terminals, equipment and capacity serving Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
Alex Peebles, senior director of offshore and international at Estes, said the privately held, family-owned carrier is taking a longer view of the freight market rather than allowing current conditions to dictate its investment strategy.
"We're really looking at all of these investments from a long-term horizon and viewpoint perspective and one that's going to help accommodate growth and capacity into all the offshore international markets that we service," Peebles told FreightWaves.
Estes, which is celebrating its 95th anniversary this year, is North America's largest privately held less-than-truckload (LTL) freight transportation provider. The company operates a network of over 300 terminals and service centers across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Alaska, Hawaii with coverage extending to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean
Peebles said the company's ownership structure gives it flexibility to move quickly when real estate and equipment opportunities arise.

Before signing off on an auto loan, crunch the numbers to ensure you can afford your new set of wheels.
To find how much you'll spend on interest, use an auto loan calculator, work it out yourself or talk to a lender.
Factors including car specifics, the economy, your credit history and overall financial health determine your car loan interest rate.
To avoid paying too much in interest, shop around for the right loan and save up ahead of purchase.
With so many online auto calculators available, car buyers may not give that much thought to how to calculate interest on a car loan. You don't need to be a math whiz: You just multiply the loan balance by your interest rate and divide it by the number of months you have left on your loan term.

United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) CEO Scott Kirby told CNBC he wants to expand United's presence at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, returning to the congested airport through a new partnership with JetBlue Airways, American's former partner, as early as next year.
Kirby said he is also preparing for how artificial intelligence will change the airline industry. CNBC reported that Kirby, who was fired by American Airlines a decade ago when he served as its president, has floated megamerger ideas with both Delta and American over the past year but has so far been rebuffed, with antitrust experts skeptical the combinations could happen. He said he remains uninterested in acquiring a smaller carrier. United currently ranks as the second most profitable U.S. airline behind Delta, with American a "distant third."
United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:UAL) has a concrete opportunity to strengthen its position at JFK through its partnership with JetBlue. Re-entering one of the country's most valuable and slot-constrained airports would give United incremental access to a market where it has struggled to compete. The partnership could also weaken American's competitive position by pulling JetBlue away from its previous relationship with American.
United also has the financial strength to pursue an ambitious growth strategy. The airline ranks as the second-most profitable U.S. carrier behind Delta, giving CEO Scott Kirby greater flexibility to invest in network expansion, technology, and other long-term opportunities. That financial position gives United more room to pursue transformative moves without relying solely on defensive strategies.
Kirby's comments on M&A also suggest that United wants to pursue scale selectively rather than chase every available acquisition. He has expressed little interest in buying a smaller carrier while discussing the possibility of much larger combinations with Delta or American. That approach could help United focus its capital and management resources on deals that could materially strengthen its competitive position.

Citigroup is expected to secure Chinese regulatory clearance for its fully owned brokerage operation in mainland China as early as this month, with plans to recruit several dozen employees for the business in the coming months, according to Reuters.
Sources told Reuters that the final approval may come around the period of Chinese President Xi Jinping's scheduled trip to Washington for talks with US President Donald Trump in late September.
Reuters said the prospect of approval this month had not been previously disclosed.
Citi declined to comment.
The US lender, already active in China through corporate, institutional and related banking services, applied in late 2021 for a licence to establish a fully owned mainland brokerage arm as part of a broader effort to deepen its operations in the country.

Michael Burry made his name betting against a market everyone else trusted. This time, the market pushed back harder than usual, and the damage showed up across nearly every corner of his bearish portfolio.
August turned into one of the roughest months yet for his bearish AI positions, even as he kept adding to them rather than backing away. The stretch offers a real test of how long conviction can hold up against a genuinely strong earnings season.
Most of the stocks Burry was bearish on advanced during August, led by sharp gains in Palantir, Nvidia, and Micron. The month highlighted a real risk for AI skeptics: valuation concerns can look extreme for a long time before momentum and earnings growth actually break. August gave little evidence that a break is imminent.
Palantir was by far the biggest problem. The stock surged 51.4% in August, even as Burry maintained out-of-the-money put options with a $100 strike expiring December 2026 and a $50 strike expiring June 2027, according to Yahoo Finance.

Ford Motor (NYSE:F), the global light-vehicle and truck maker with Ford and Lincoln brands, closed at $14.14, up 2.17%. Wednesday's session followed reports that August U.S. sales fell 10.3%. Investors will be closely watching pickup production and demand next.
Trading volume reached 51.7 million shares, coming in roughly 3.1% above its three-month average of 50.2 million shares.
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) closed at 7,667, up 0.47%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) finished at 26,218, up 0.45%. Among automobile manufacturers, General Motors (NYSE:GM) closed at $84.88, down 0.88%, and Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) ended at $5.27, down 1.50%, highlighting softer trading in auto peers during the session.
Ford reported August U.S. sales fell 10.3%, marking an eighth straight month of year-over-year declines. Investors were encouraged, however, after the automaker said its production of the large, highly profitable "Super Duty" trucks last month reached a 20-year high. At the same time, the output of F-150 pickups reached its highest point in two years, reports CNBC. Ford was significantly affected by supplier issues due to its large aluminum bodies and other components following an aluminum plant fire late last year.
August electric vehicle (EV) sales were down nearly 80%, while hybrid sales were down 20%. Ford stock is nearly 20% off its 2026 highs, reached after the company announced the formation of Ford Energy in May. That came after it repurposed some EV ******* ets as part of a pivot to tap into demand for energy storage. That helped investors shrug off the plunging EV and hybrid sales.

EHang Holdings (NASDAQ:EH) reported mixed second-quarter results on Tuesday, delivering a stronger-than-expected earnings performance but falling short of revenue forecasts as regulatory caution weighed on China's low-altitude aviation industry.
The market reaction was muted, with EHang shares edging just 0.58% higher in pre-market trading following the announcement.
Adjusted earnings per share came in at RMB0.38, comfortably ahead of ****** ysts' estimate for a loss of RMB0.72 per share. Revenue, however, reached RMB77.9 million, missing the consensus forecast of RMB132.96 million and falling 31.3% from RMB113.3 million in the second quarter of 2025.
Sequentially, the picture was considerably stronger, with revenue rising 203.5% from RMB25.7 million in the first quarter of 2026.
EHang delivered 36 electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft during the quarter. That represented a decline from 52 units in the corresponding period last year but a substantial improvement from just four aircraft delivered during the first quarter.

In 1983, Social Security was weeks from insolvency; Congress raised the retirement age to 67, taxed benefits, and not one check bounced.
A rumored 23% benefit cut requires no vote because Social Security legally cannot borrow, meaning checks automatically shrink if Congress misses the deadline.
Orman urges listeners to downsize, extend car life, and save aggressively now, treating any future Social Security check as a bonus, not a foundation.

Suze Orman opened a recent segment of her Women & Money podcast by reaching back to the last time Social Security stared down insolvency. Her words on that 1983 crisis: "Social Security was weeks, not 6 years away from not being able to pay full benefits. Congress fixed it. They raised the retirement age. That's when it went from 65 to 67, everybody. They taxed some benefits. They moved money around. And it was ugly. It was late, but they did it and not one check bounced."

Live cattle futures have lost momentum after reaching summer highs, but the decline should not be confused with a sudden increase in the nation's cattle supply. The recent weakness reflects softer cash trade, slower seasonal beef demand and technical selling. In the long term, the fundamental balance remains tight.
As of August 18, October live cattle futures were near $219 per hundredweight, down roughly $11 from the early-August high. Cash cattle also traded $2 to $3 lower during the second week of August. Packers had covered much of their near-term inventory, while beef demand entered the slower period between the Fourth of July and Labor Day. Those conditions reduced the need for packers to bid aggressively for market-ready cattle.

Consensus takes the multiple down by nearly a third in two years, and what a holder actually earns depends on what the market keeps paying.
Autodesk (ADSK) stock trades at about $251.66, down 12.3% over the past twelve months. On the last twelve months of adjusted earnings that is still about 25.7 times earnings. The forward multiples cut that hard, and most of the cutting is already visible in the company's own numbers.
Where That Multiple Goes If The Earnings Arrive
On the earnings **** ysts expect for fiscal 2027, today's price is about 19.6 times earnings; on the earnings expected for fiscal 2028, that same price is about 17.6 times. That is a 31% lower multiple than the trailing figure, as consensus earnings grow into the price. One caveat: the trailing multiple sits on normalized net income with stock-based compensation added back, meant to land near the **** yst-consensus basis rather than match it, so part of the fall is basis, not earnings, and for an acquisition-heavy company that part can be most of it.

If you've been feeling apprehensive about the stock market lately, you're in the majority. Around three-quarters of American investors said they were concerned about a market downturn in 2026, according to a July survey by MarketWise.
Pessimism about the future of the market isn't unusual: Even in the most bullish runs, fears of a market crash are present. But what is unusual about the current bull run is the historic valuation extreme it's approaching -- one seen only once in the last 150 years.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings (CAPE) ratio, which divides the price of an index, such as the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), by its average inflation-adjusted earnings over the last 10 years, has climbed to a startling level. By one calculation, the CAPE ratio currently sits at roughly 41.4 -- only a few points below the all-time high reached in the dot-com era.
A high CAPE ratio usually indicates that stocks are very expensive, at least by historical standards. For context, the CAPE ratio has averaged about 16 to 17 over the last century and a half, and it has crossed the 30 marker only a handful of times, most notably during the Roaring '20s (i.e., just before the Great Depression) and the tech bubble of the late '90s.

Emerald Wealth Partners, an independent ***** et and wealth management firm based in Zurich, released its Q2 2026 investor letter for the "Focused Equity Strategy." A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The Strategy reported a 0.8% gross return for the second quarter of 2026. Equity markets rallied after the first quarter's Iran shock faded and oil prices reversed their spike, but the advance remained narrow and concentrated in cyclical semiconductor and memory stocks benefiting from supply constraints. The letter warned that investors were treating peak-cycle earnings as durable, while FOMO, IPO demand, and a US cyclically adjusted P/E ratio near 40 pointed to late-cycle market behavior. Long-term fundamentals are currently undervalued by the market, leading to underperformance in the strategy, notably due to the portfolio's avoidance of low-quality momentum-driven semiconductor stocks, which boosted the benchmark this quarter. It remains focused on enterprise infrastructure, digital platforms, custom silicon, and networking businesses that hold customer relationships, workflow data, distribution, and efficiency advantages, which could allow them to monetize AI rather than be displaced by it. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for its key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Emerald Wealth Partners Focused Equity Strategy highlighted ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML). ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML), a lithography solutions provider for the development, production, marketing, sales, upgrading, and servicing of advanced semiconductor equipment systems, contributed 156 bps to the strategy's performance during the quarter. On August 4, 2026, ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML) closed at $1,711.89 per share. One-month return of ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML) was -3.21% and its shares gained 147.76% over the past 52 weeks. ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML) has a market capitalization of $648.21 billion.
Emerald Wealth Partners Focused Equity Strategy stated the following regarding ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"ASML Holding N.V. (NASDAQ:ASML) rose 51.0%, adding 156 bps benefitting from the euphoria surrounding the semiconductor sector. Its monopoly in advanced lithography remains one of the most durable competitive positions we own. Each new generation of its machines allows chipmakers to pack more transistors into less silicon. This steady improvement in efficiency — better performance per watt, easier thermal management, a lower cost per unit of compute — is what underpins further advances in AI, and every other application where efficient chips matter."

Mercedes-Benz (MBG.DE) reported decent results on Tuesday, highlighting strength in its core business, but continuing weakness in China. The report comes as the German automaker's US business is under threat of a ban due to ownership stakes by Chinese companies.
In the second quarter, Mercedes reported passenger car revenue of 22.99 billion euros ($26.18 billion), down 5% compared to a year ago, with adjusted EBIT coming in at 909 million euros ($1.035 billion), down 26% year over year.
But its adjusted return on sales (similar to EBIT margin) in the car unit fell slightly to 4% from a year earlier, beating **** yst expectations per Bloomberg.
Mercedes stock trading in Germany pulled higher.
But the good news in its operations comes at a tricky time for Stuttgart-based Mercedes.
