Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin had a solid rookie season where he showed his ability to shoot the three-pointer better than anyone, except the Nets' coaching staff, anticipated coming into last year. Since then, Brooklyn has been hoping to see more from Demin besides his long-range shooting and he looked like he was ready to do that in the summer league, but some around the league are waiting to see it during the regular season.
HoopsHype put out its list of the projected top-27 shooting guards for the upcoming 2026-27 season and Demin did not make the list or the three players that missed the cut, putting him outside the top-30. For context, the three players that just missed the cut for HoopsHype were Shaedon Sharpe of the Portland Trail Blazers, Aaron Wiggins of the Atlanta Hawks, and Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors.
Demin, 20, is coming off an impressive showing during Brooklyn's summer circuit as he showed his ability to impact the game outside of his shooting ability, which was subpar compared to how he shot the ball last season. In five games played between the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, Demin averaged 21.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 ****** ists, and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 28.9% from behind the three-point line.
As of this writing, HoopsHype has put out its top-27 projected lists for the point guard and shooting guard spots heading into next season and thus far, Brooklyn's projected starting guards have not made the top-30. Demin seems to be set as the shooting guard while Mikel Brown Jr. will likely be the starting point guard ****** uming that he plays well in camp and the preseason.
With the Nets expected to be one of the worst teams in the league next season, it makes sense to see many around the league doubt how many of the players can step up to beat the odds in an improved Easter Conference. However, it's important to note that this list is a projection so Demin has every chance to come into camp and be the best version of himself that hopefully places him in the top-27 by the time next season is over.

The Portland Trail Blazers will be without Shaedon Sharpe for a significant portion of the 2026-27 campaign.
Sharpe sustained a torn meniscus in his knee, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. He is now expected to miss six months recovering. Based on that timeline, barring any setbacks, Sharpe should be able to take the court again in late February or early March.
Specifics of the injury, including when Sharpe injured his knee, are not yet known.
Sharpe averaged a career-high 20.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last season, his fourth in the league after the Trail Blazers selected him with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He signed a four-year, $90 million extension with the team last fall that will keep him with the franchise through 2030.
This post will be updated with more information shortly.

The Portland Trail Blazers have seemingly decided that having too many guards isn't actually a problem.
Ja Morant, Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson are all expected to enter training camp on Micah Nori's roster, with Portland reportedly believing it can make the overcrowded group work.
That's certainly one way to handle it.
But if the Blazers are committed to keeping Henderson despite acquiring another ball-dominant point guard in Morant, then it's time to prove they remain equally committed to his future.
Henderson is eligible to sign a rookie-scale extension until Oct. 19, the day before the 2026-27 regular season begins. If the two sides don't reach an agreement, he'll make $13.6 million in the final year of his rookie contract before entering restricted free agency next summer.

We're just a little more than 48 hours before the official start of NBA free agency (although let's be honest, teams have got a lot of their roster-building work done already, including things yet to officially happen). The rumors are flying fast. Here are some of the latest around the NBA.
At least seven teams have stepped up with interest in trading for Brown — the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta Hawks and LA Clippers — reports Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. He also confirms previous reporting that Houston is not in the mix.
Portland comes up a lot in rumors, but they will not put All-Star Deni Avdija in a trade (which also was true around the Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors), and to this point have not been willing to put Toumani Camara or Donovan Clingan in the deal, but it likely would take one or both (and more) to get the deal done, Scotto reports. He adds Portland wants to put Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson in the deal.
He also says that talks with the Hornets have cooled and the Clippers were always a long shot.
It's been difficult to tell exactly how serious the Clippers are about trading Kawhi Leonard, if at all. Reportedly, owner Steve Ballmer doesn't want to trade him, but if contract extension talks stall out — as they are rumored to be doing — then a trade may be in play.
