The 6th edition of Bayern Munich's World Squad project recently ended, with the camp ending in a 2-1 defeat to Bayern's U-19s. The TLDR is Bayern chooses a squad of 23-26 U-19 players for a month long training camp, in which the children visit different countries, cultures and teams to play, working together to culminate in a final showdown against Bayern's U-19s. The players are either chosen from videos submissions the players themselves send of their best skills, outstanding players of the Global Academy or repeat members from last year's World Squad.
Heading the project since 2023 is former Bayern striker and icon Roy Makaay, who was joined by another former Bayern player Diego Contento in the coaching staff in 2024. Given Contento's role in the Global Academy, he is an important link between that project and the World Squad. Before the most recent edition of the project ended, the duo sat down with Bayern to discuss this year's plans. The club's official website has the transcript:

Roy Makaay: "I'm very proud I get to act as an FC Bayern brand ambassador and coach the World Squad for the fourth time. It's always a lot of fun, even though the weeks are very intense and challenging each time. After the four weeks, I always board the plane satisfied. For me, it has nothing to do with the results but above all with the players' development."

Bayern Munich's Global Academy continues to take shape, with various levels and entry station into the Bavarians' increasing youth movement developing. If one wishes to take a closer look at what the Global Academy is, this is the place to look. The TLDR is that, since 2023, Bayern invites a 18 U-18 players to a one year training camp that spans an entire season. These players, if they demonstrate enough talent, will get the chance to move up through the system. The next step for any outstanding Global Academy player is the Bayern World Squad.

For Aryan Bose, taking part in the FC Bayern World Squad this year marks another important step on his extraordinary journey. The attacking player comes from India but was born in Thailand and grew up there. It was through the FC Bayern Global Academy that he earned his place in the World Squad project. He is now part of the Class of '26 and is competing against talented players from all over the world at the highest level of youth football. In this interview, Aryan talks about the biggest differences between the Global Academy and the World Squad, the most memorable moments of his trip to South Korea, and what he is taking away from this experience for his personal and sporting development.

Thank you, Jeju – ******* o, Hong Kong! On the fourth day of the Audi Summer Tour, FC Bayern moved on from the South Korean island of Jeju to Hong Kong. Head coach Vincent Kompany's team received an enthusiastic welcome in the metropolis, where they'll stay until Friday and take part in the Audi Football Summit against Aston Villa (Friday, 14:00 CEST, live on FC Bayern TV PLUS) as well as training sessions, media appearances and partner events. fcbayern.com brings you an overview of the Wednesday on the Audi Summer Tour.
Following a training session at the hotel on Jeju in the morning, Bayern departed for Hong Kong. After the flight of around three hours, Luis Díaz and colleagues were already enthusiastically welcomed at the airport. Then at the team hotel, too, a large number of supporters cheered the German record champions, making it a very pleasant arrival.
In the evening, Bayern legends Giovane Elber and Roy Makaay visited one of the six FC Bayern Pop-Up Stores in Hong Kong. Since 31 July, fans have been able to purchase, among other things, the shirt with the specially made nameset for Hong Kong here, which the team will wear in the friendly against Aston Villa. Mascot Berni also paid the store a visit on Wednesday.

Most people know the general gist of Maycon Cardozo's rise through the ranks of Bayern Munich so far, but it is worth repeating how rapidly the pint sized magician has overcome every challenge thus far. Picked as part of the 2024 Bayern World Squad edition, the Brazilian impressed the likes of Roy Makaay and his fellow World Squad coaches so much that they unanimously agreed to recommend Bayern to sign the youngster from the Sports Thai Bavaria Academy in Thailand. He duly joined the U17s in January 2025, moved up to the U-19s in the summer, made it to the U-23s by January 2026 and made his first team debut under Vincent Kompany in March 2026 in a 4-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Now two 2026/27 preseason games are gone and Cardozo has passed his next challenge. Moved all over the pitch to unfamiliar positions, including on the right flank against Rottach-Egern, he nevertheless impressed. Nor are just his performances on the pitch impressive, multiple coaches have been impressed by the youngster's work ethic. Bildreports (as captured by iMiaSanMia) that Cardozo has an outside chance at a role with the first team for the 2026/27 season:

He is always motivated and focused, always thinking about the next ball. That's a great quality. With his attitude, he's a role model for our team."
Because of this commitment and performances, Cardozo will be included in the squad for the Asia tour, and could get game time in the friendlies there. After the tour, it will become clearer whether Cardozo has a realistic chance of playing a role for the first team this season.

It took Roy Makaay only 10.12 seconds to score for Bayern against Real Madrid on 7 March 2007. It remains the fastest goal in the history of the Champions League and is all the more remarkable because the Spanish team had kick-off that day. The ball was played to Roberto Carlos, who lost it against Hasan Salihamidžić. The Bayern midfielder then set Makaay away to beat Iker Casillas in the Madrid goal at the Allianz Arena. “It’s incredibly that my record still stands after so many years,” Makaay said on donating his boots. It’s been almost 20 years since Bayern won that second leg 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals.
Now 51 years old, the former striker returned to the scene of his historic moment last week to hand over the special items. “The boots I wore to score the goal are now where they belong, at the Allianz Arena and in the wonderful club museum,” Makaay said. As he stood there looking at his old footwear, he explained how it helps bring the past to life: “As soon as I look at them, I know what game it was. I’ll never forget the moment and atmosphere in the stadium that day.”

Makaay is now the head coach of the FC Bayern World Squad.
The footwear inside the Museum also carries more than just memories. The names Dani and Milou – his children – are stitched into each boot. It’s a detail that shows how close family and football are for Makaay and a reminder that big moments don’t just happen alone but are intertwined with the people who accompany you along the way.
