FC Cincinnati got off to a great start in the 2026 Leagues Cup, defeating CF Pachuca 3-1 in the first of three group-stage games Aug. 4 at TQL Stadium.
Cincinnati earned three big points to start the tournament. Evander, Pavel Bucha and Kenji Mboma Dem scored for Cincinnati, who rallied from behind again after allowing a goal in the eighth minute of the game.
"We want to go for this tournament and this championship, and go ahead and try to win it this year," said Gerardo Valenzuela. "So every win matters because there are only four teams in MLS make it out."
Here's what we learned from the win:
Cincinnati used a rotated lineup similar to what they did in the Concacaf Champions Cup in February and March.

FC Cincinnati (6-5-6) returns to competition on Saturday, July 30, facing off against the San Jose Earthquakes (10-3-4) at TQL Stadium. The competition gives FCC a chance to bounce back from a tough and controversial loss at the Columbus Crew a week prior. However, the club will be tested against an Earthquake team that is tied for the most points in the Western Conference.
During the week of practice leading up to Saturday's contest, much of the conversation at Cincinnati's Mercy Health Training Center was still surrounding what happened at Columbus. But the team is also ready to move forward onto San Jose, the beginning of a four-game home stretch that goes until Aug. 15.

Midfielder Gerardo Valenzuela already received a red card for "violent conduct" against Columbus, as he first tackled Crew midfielder Taha Habroune to the ground before engaging in a verbal altercation between both Crew and FCC team members. But on Thursday, July, 30, FCC head coach Pat Noonan revealed that Valenzuela would be suspended an additional MLS game (he was already suspended for the San Jose contest) and receive fines.
FCC forward Ayoub Jabbari, ***** istant coach Kenny Arena, and several Columbus Crew players were also fined.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Pavel Bucha scored two goals Wednesday night to help FC Cincinnati beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-3.
Evander Da Silva Ferreira — known simply as “Evander” — added a goal and an **** ist for Cincinnati and Kevin Denkey also scored a goal. Roman Celentano had three saves for Cincinnati (6-5-5).
Evander scored on the counter-attack to give Cincinnati a 3-2 lead in the 36th minute. As the defense raced back to set up, Evander paused just outside the top of the penalty box and blasted a shot off the left post for his 10th goal this season.
The Whitecaps (10-3-2) played for the first time since before the World Cup break after their game at Chicago, which had originally been scheduled for Thursday, was postponed until Oct. 6 due to poor air quality in the area.
Bucha opened the scoring in the ninth minute and scored again in the 56th. Evander, from near the penalty spot, lofted a ball to the right post where a charging Bucha slammed home a first-touch finish to give Cincinnati a 4-2 lead in the 56th minute.
