President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday evening temporarily allowing the use of red-dyed diesel on public roads and deferring the federal excise tax on that fuel through the end of the year, a move aimed at lowering costs for truckers and farmers facing record-high diesel prices.
Red-dyed diesel is chemically the same product as standard highway diesel, but carries a red dye to mark it as off-road fuel — meaning it is not subject to the 24.4-cent-per-gallon federal excise tax that applies to diesel sold at the pump for road use, such as for tractors and heavy machinery. Using it in highway vehicles has been illegal, carrying penalties for tax evasion, according to CNBC.
According to the White House, the order instructs the Treasury Secretary to hold off on collecting federal excise taxes on highway use of dyed diesel between October 5 and December 31, 2026, and to do so without charging interest or imposing penalties. The Treasury is also directed to direct the Internal Revenue Service not to impose penalties for on-road use of dyed diesel during that period. The order further instructs officials to explore pathways, including legislation, to eliminate the deferred tax obligations entirely.
The White House projected that a trucker who tops off an 18-wheeler's tank with 250 gallons stands to save over $100 on a single fill-up, provided the trucker's state suspends its own diesel tax as well. On top of the federal levy, each state levies its own diesel excise tax, and those state-level taxes average out to 35.5 cents per gallon, according to CNN.
The order also directs the Secretary of Agriculture to coordinate with agricultural cooperatives and rural fuel distributors to ensure adequate dyed diesel distribution in high-demand areas, and the Secretary of Transportation to engage with state governments and industry stakeholders. The White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs was directed to encourage states to adopt corresponding policies.

FleetCor and CEO Ronald Clarke agreed to a $100 million payment resolving Federal Trade Commission litigation. The settlement follows years of court action over hidden charges involving commercial fuel cards. Harm reached tens of thousands among small-business customers seeking lower operating costs. Regulators say promised savings disappeared beneath undisclosed billing practices.
Federal regulators accused FleetCor, which now operates as Corpay, of imposing unauthorized fees totaling hundreds of millions. Investigators found improper late penalties despite timely remittance or company barriers that prevented payment. Officials cited misleading claims about gas savings, fraud controls, plus card-related expenses. Those practices harmed operators across the United States, according to a 2019 complaint.
Regulators found FleetCor often waited several billing cycles before adding many charges. Delayed timing made extra costs harder for customers to notice. Invoices omitted fee disclosures, pushing account holders toward separate management reports. Even those documents obscured some amounts among unrelated details or excluded them entirely.
"FleetCor deceived its small business customers by promising fuel savings that never materialized," Christopher Mufarrige said. He directs FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. Agency officials also criticized hidden and unauthorized charges. Settlement terms channel restitution toward harmed account holders.
In 2023, one federal district court granted summary judgment to the FTC on every count. Its ruling found hidden charges and false representations involving savings, fees, plus fraud-control features. Permanent injunction terms barred FleetCor from billing without informed consent alongside clear disclosures. That order also prohibited deceptive fuel-card claims or hiding material information behind hyperlinks.

A federal judge who blocked the most controversial aspect of President Donald Trump's executive order aimed at restricting mail-in ballots -- namely, employing the Postal Service as the primary enforcer of mail-voter eligibility -- has now lifted that decision following the Supreme Court's ruling Monday that legal challenges are premature.
The move means there are no longer legal holds on any aspect of Trump's March 2026 mail-in ballot executive order and that the administration is free to move forward, for now, with its implementation without caveats.
Trump's executive order directs the Department of Homeland Security to build a federal citizenship list and give it to the states; the Department of Justice to target state officials who give ballots to noncitizens; and the USPS to direct states to abide by certain mail-ballot design and tracking requirements.
Patrick T. Fallon/AFP via Getty Images, FILE - PHOTO: An election worker processes mail-in ballots at the Los Angeles County Ballot Processing Center during California's state primary election in the City of Industry, Calif., on June 2, 2026.
Most critically, the order would require states to provide a list of registered eligible voters to USPS for verification and mandate that postal workers only deliver ballots to persons on the list.

President Donald Trump signed a memo Thursday directing federal agencies to dramatically ramp up commercial rocket activity, setting a target of at least 1,000 launches and re-entries annually by 2030, according to Reuters.
Last year's total sat at 178 launches — already 10 times the 2013 figure. Reaching 1,000 would mean roughly a fivefold jump from current levels.
The memo directs agencies to look at federal land for new launch and re-entry sites, and calls for a new federal re-entry site to be identified within 90 days. Officials are also told to expedite permitting, speed up environmental reviews and secure adequate wireless spectrum for launches, per Reuters.

The digital payments giant sent a fortune back to its owners, yet the stock fell far behind the market. Here is the accounting of what that cash really bought.
PayPal (PYPL) operates the digital wallet and payment network millions use for everything from online shopping to splitting a dinner bill. But while its service is familiar, its stock, trading around $59.78, has been a source of frustration, sitting about 34% below its two-year high. Against that backdrop, the company has executed one of the largest capital returns in the market. Over the last five years, it handed back nearly $26 billion to shareholders, a figure equal to 51% of its entire current value. The company paid owners a fortune while the stock lagged; was holding worth it, and is it now?
A $26 Billion Payout Fueled Almost Entirely by Buybacks
The cash return machine is powered by the fees PayPal collects on its large payment volume, generating a free cash flow yield of 12.6%. The company then directs that cash back to its owners. The method, however, has been overwhelmingly one-sided. Of the total returned over five years, a huge $26 billion came from share repurchases, with just $252 million paid out as dividends.
This buyback-heavy strategy is designed to shrink the share count and boost earnings per share. It is a vote of confidence from management, using company cash to buy its own stock. But for the individual investor, the real measure is total return, which accounts for both price movement and dividends.

Cristiano Ronaldo posted two photos to his personal Instagram account this week captioned simply "My toys," and unlike most athlete garage flexes, the hardware in the frame actually holds up to scrutiny. The images, viewed directly on his verified account, show him perched on the fender of a low red Ferrari inside what looks less like a garage and more like a boutique dealership: polished stone walls, gallery-style track lighting, glass panels overlooking greenery, and cars parked on what appear to be rotating display turntables. It's built to be looked at, so let's actually look at it.
View the original "My toys" post on Cristiano Ronaldo's Instagram
Strip away the sunglasses-and-white-shirt theater and the hardware tells its own story. In the foreground of both shots sits a low, wide Ferrari with a sharply creased nose, integrated splitter, and shield badge consistent with the styling language of Maranello's hybrid hypercar flagship. Parked nose to tail with it is a second Ferrari that has no windshield at all, a dead giveaway for the Monza SP1 or SP2, Ferrari's "Icona" series barchetta. Ferrari's own spec sheet credits the Monza with 810 metric horsepower from a V12 borrowed directly from the 812 Superfast, and a "virtual wind shield" aero channel that redirects airflow over the driver's head instead of putting glass in front of their face.
Wedged in front of both Ferraris is a deep maroon Bugatti wearing the brand's oval "EB" badge and the round quad headlamps that mark it as one of the Veyron-generation cars rather than the sharper-edged Chiron that replaced it in 2016. ******* uming it's the roofless Grand Sport Vitesse the exposed targa panel suggests, that's the variant Bugatti's own press materials credit with a 408.84 km/h (254 mph) top speed set with the roof removed, a record for an open-top production car that stood specifically because Bugatti engineered the Vitesse's structure to stay rigid at that speed without a fixed roof tying the chassis together.
Further back, a black coupe wearing a towering, strut-mounted rear wing lines up with the unmistakable silhouette of a McLaren Senna, the track-focused hypercar McLaren built in a limited run of 500 examples, each hand-assembled over roughly 300 hours. McLaren's own figures put the Senna at 789 horsepower from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, a 335 km/h (208 mph) top speed, and a 2.8-second run to 62 mph, with that enormous wing doing real aerodynamic work rather than just looking angry. A handful of other cars are visible deeper in the frame, including a pale, low-slung shape and a boxier silhouette, but neither is clear enough in the photos to identify with confidence.

Marc-André ter Stegen is set to undergo a medical in Amsterdam before completing a season-long loan move to Ajax, with The Athletic reporting that the 34-year-old left Barcelona's pre-season camp in the United Kingdom on Thursday after the club gave him the green light to travel to the Netherlands. He will not feature in the Blaugrana's friendly against Birmingham City on July 31.
The Athletic first reported on July 3 that Ajax and Barcelona had reached a verbal agreement in principle over the loan, which would cover the entire 2026-27 season. What should have been a routine exit then stalled for the best part of a month over tax complications arising from the legal frameworks in Spain and the Netherlands – specifically, how the additional fiscal charges generated by paying a salary across two jurisdictions would be distributed between the parties.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen directs his teammates during a match for FC Barcelona.
Barcelona sources described the situation as considerably more complicated than initially anticipated, while those close to Ter Stegen's camp said the delays stemmed from a determination to structure the deal correctly rather than rush it through. Those issues were resolved on Thursday, clearing the path for him to fly to Amsterdam. As Ter Stegen himself acknowledged briefly at Birmingham Airport before boarding, the process was not quite finished: he still needs to complete his medical, finalise documentation and sign all relevant agreements before Ajax can formally announce the transfer.
The financial structure of the loan has been the defining complication throughout. Barcelona will continue to pay around 90 per cent of Ter Stegen's wages – a figure that could dip slightly depending on his involvement and achievements at Ajax, but only marginally. That is a consequence of the contract extension he signed in 2023, which was back-loaded with deferred salary payments and runs until 2028, leaving the Catalans carrying the bulk of his remuneration regardless of where he plays.

Synopsys (NASDAQ:SNPS) is preparing to discontinue a suite of semiconductor manufacturing process control software as the company redirects investment towards higher-margin artificial intelligence design technologies, according to six sources familiar with the plans.
Sources said the US chip design software company informed more than 10 semiconductor manufacturers during April and May that several manufacturing **** ytics products had reached "end of life." Customers reportedly include Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Kioxia Holdings and Qorvo.
Under the move, Synopsys will stop developing new versions of the affected software while continuing to meet existing maintenance and contractual support commitments.
The software being phased out includes the Equipment Engineering System (EES) and Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) platforms. These applications are used within semiconductor fabrication plants to monitor production equipment, identify faults and help prevent manufacturing defects before they affect production yields.
According to two of the sources, the software plays a central role in monitoring fabrication processes across advanced chip manufacturing facilities.

St. Joseph's dominance in the Michigan Girls High School Flag Football League starts at the youth level.
St. Joseph's youth league now has 102 girls, enough for all-girls teams and divisions. When Lainie Dorow started playing in fifth grade, she was the only girl on her team. Then she was one of four. Now, dozens of younger girls hope to one day lead a team to a state ******* le – or even back-to-back championships, like she did Sunday, June 7.
Dorow went 18-for-32 passing for 223 yards, three touchdowns, two 2-point conversions and one interception. She also returned an interception 33 yards for a score on defense to help the Bears beat Gibraltar Carlson, 28-12 and repeat as state champions at Ford Field.
THE FIRST ******* LE: St. Joseph Bears crowned inaugural Michigan Girls High School flag football champions
"We've got girls at 5, 6 and 7 years old learning how to play quarterback, run routes and defend passes," said coach Matt Koch, who also directs the St. Joe Rocket and Flag Football program. "So our program doesn't start in ninth grade. Really, it starts in kindergarten in some cases, and we're not from a big area. It's been great seeing the kind of role models our girls have been for younger girls who try to emulate them. Girls in Berrien County love football and the opportunity to play."

Trump directs RFK Jr. to review childhood vaccine plan after hepatitis B pivot

President Donald Trump is all in on Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s plan to scrutinize the list of vaccines American children get.
Trump directed Kennedy on Friday to review the childhood vaccine schedule and potentially revise it to align with those of other developed countries, most of which recommend fewer shots.
The directive, in the form of an official presidential memo, was issued hours after federal vaccine advisers downgraded decades-old guidance urging newborn immunization against hepatitis B,
