GREEN BAY, WI — Notre Dame football linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (left ACL) did not participate in pregame warmups with his position group on Sunday night at Lambeau Field.
The third-year linebacker, who had been listed as questionable at the start of Wisconsin week, wore sunglasses and sweatpants as he tossed a football to his fellow linebackers along with Notre Dame graduate ****** istants.
Considered a potential high-round NFL Draft pick as soon as next spring, Viliamu-Asa suffered his second career ACL tear to his left knee in the Senior Day win over Syracuse last Nov. 22.
Homecoming: An emotional Green Bay homecoming ahead for Notre Dame's James Flanigan
With "KVA" apparently sidelined, Notre Dame figures to lean more heavily on the three-man linebacker rotation of Drayk Bowen, Jaiden Ausberry and Jaylen Sneed along with sophomore Madden Faraimo.

What SEC's lawsuit against LSU means for Lane Kiffin, former NFL players and more originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The SEC is not backing down when it comes to former NFL players returning to play college football. On Thursday, the conference filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama against both LSU and Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin.
According to On3 Sports, the lawsuit specifically names LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry, the school's president Wade Rousse, as well as head coach Lane Kiffin. The lawsuit comes just days before LSU is set to take on the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night to open the 2026 season.
The move is an immediate escalation of the battle that has been brewing between the SEC and LSU and Lane Kiffin. Kiffin and LSU recently signed former NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae'Quan Wright last week, which resulted in the conference passing a rule barring former professional athletes from returning to play college football.
Let's take a look at the new lawsuit and what it means for LSU and Kiffin.

Despite the Cincinnati Bengals preseason kicking off against the Detroit Lions this week, it wasn't the only news Joe Burrow found his name in.
Burrow was recently mentioned in Jayden Daniels' statement regarding drama about the use of his jersey number.
The attorney for Daniels released a statement to LSU that it can no longer use his name, image, and likeness, according to a letter sent to Tigers athletic director Verge Ausberry.
"The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU's decision to give Jayden's number to another player," the statement from Daniels' spokesperson said. "Jayden and his family had every reason to believe that his number would remain a meaningful part of his LSU legacy and would be honored and protected in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the university."
Sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett is officially rocking number 5 this season, and this is the first time an LSU player has worn that jersey number since Daniels was drafted by the Commanders.

SOUTH BEND —Brian Jean-Mary minces no words when it comes to what he wants to see out of his Notre Dame football linebackers.
That includes fourth-year man Jaiden Ausberry, who trailed only team captain Drayk Bowen with 437 total defensive snaps among Irish linebackers in 2025, but whose 17.2% missed-tackle rate led the group.
"He knows as much as we do the things that he has to get better at," Jean-Mary said of Ausberry during the spring. "He's got all the experience and is super, super talented. You know the athleticism is there. With him, it's just taking his game to the next level as a blitzer and making more plays on the ball in coverage."
With Bowen and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa held out during the spring as they recovered from hip and ACL surgeries, respectively, Ausberry and fifth-year man Jaylen Sneed enjoyed the lion's share of snaps as they built a working relationship with the well-traveled Jean-Mary.
"He's kind of taken the mantle as the vocal leader in the room playing predominantly at the middle linebacker spot, which is new for him," Jean-Mary said of Ausberry. "But I think he's embraced it and loved the challenge. He knows that's just going to make him better once the fall comes around and we're a little bit healthier."

Since taking over as LSU's athletics director in November 2025, Verge Ausberry has become a key voice as the school navigates the ever-changing college sports landscape. But he also made clear his desire for clarity with regard to rules and structure.
Throughout the NIL era, there have been comparisons between the college game and the pros. Not only can athletes earn money through their name, image and likeness, but the transfer portal has created a sense of "free agency" and player movement.

To Ausberry, though, there are differences because of how staffs are built. But as college athletics navigates so many changes, he stressed the need for clarity. In the meantime, he said LSU will continue to work within the parameters in place, using Will Wade's roster construction as an example.
"College athletics is in a different realm," Ausberry said on In The Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu. "Professionals are set up for it. You have the **** ytics, you have the **** ysts, you have all those people. That's all they do. Player personnel, they're watching guys in college, they're watching guys on other teams. They do that every day. That's all new to us here in this system we're in. And then, we're just trying to figure out from the NCAA, what's the rules? We'll live by the rules. Right now, there's really no rules and we don't know them. So that's the hard part for us, trying to figure out what we do and how we remain competitive.
