Maja Chwalinska made French Open history on Thursday as the world number 114 became the first qualifier in the professional era to reach the Roland Garros final, where she will take on Mirra Andreeva.
The Pole downed Diana Shnaider 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 in the last four to join Russian 19-year-old Andreeva, a straight-sets winner over Marta Kostyuk, in Saturday's **** le-decider.
Should she best Andreeva in the final, Chwalinska will become just the second woman to come through qualifying and win a Grand Slam final in any major since the Open era began, after Emma Raducanu's **** le run at the US Open in 2021.
The 24-year-old said her run in the French capital was "like a dream", moments after beating 25th seed Shnaider, who a day before eliminated world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
"I don't know what's going on, I just, I dunno what to say. I'm sorry, I'm just very happy," she added to raucous applause on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Former Bournemouth midfielder and development team coach Mark Moseley believes it would be a "huge blow" if Andoni Iraola takes ***** istants Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper with him to Liverpool.
Both coaches have played a key role in the Cherries' progress in recent times, with the club achieving their best-ever top-flight finish this season and will play Europa League football next term.
Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Moseley said: "It would be a huge blow for Bournemouth. Iraola is the front of it all, but there's so many good people behind it.
"I know Tommy and Coops well and what fantastic characters they are, but also what fantastic coaches they are. They've had a very, very big impact in the success at Bournemouth and I would think that Iraola would want to keep that together. They're trusted members, have proved themselves time and time again this season and what valuable roles they have.
"If they do go, and it's all speculation at the moment, what I can say is the way Bournemouth have recruited, look at some of the players that have left this football club this year and the show has managed to go on due to their due diligence. They're always a step ahead and ready for this sort of thing.

"There is no better feeling than playing for the country. When I was six or seven years old, there was no IPL. The biggest dream for any cricketer was to play for India. Later, when I got another opportunity in One-day cricket, I did pretty well again."
While admitting that being out of the national side can be disappointing, Krunal said he tries not to focus too much on selection and instead reminds himself why he started playing cricket.
"I don't think too much about selection now. Of course, I am human and there is disappointment at times. But, you have to remind yourself why you started playing cricket. I have immense love for the sport, and that's what keeps me going."
Asked whether he still believes he can return to the Indian team, Krunal made it clear that the hope remains alive.

Former Wrexham left-back Neil Taylor believes the Red Dragons can "consolidate" and challenge for promotion in the Championship next season.
Phil Parkinson's men finished seventh in the second tier last term - missing out on a play-off spot on the final day of the regular season.
But Taylor feels Wrexham will once again be near the top end of the Championship table in 2026-27.
"It might have come too fast if they did get promoted this year," Taylor told BBC Sport Wales.
"I think they need a year in the Championship to consolidate, be in around it, sort out the Kop Stand, make it a bit bigger commercially, sign a few more Championship players and then have a good at it.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese have an intense rivalry dating back to their college days and are arguably the WNBA’s two biggest brands. Reese and the Dream are off to a fantastic 6-2 start to the season, while the Fever and Clark are treading water with a 4-4 record.
The two teams are set to face one another for the first time in the 2026 campaign on Thursday in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup. However, one day ahead of the game, Clark was listed on Indiana’s injury report.
Clark’s showing up on the injury report ahead of the biggest game thus far in Indiana’s young season caused quite the stir on social media.
“She better stay this game out or she gonna get locked up by Rhy, Lish and Jordan!!” one fan posted on X, referring to Atlanta’s league-best defense.
“Guaranteed offensive meat for the Dream! Love it,” someone else added.
