Bayer Leverkusen are parting ways with coach Kasper Hjulmand and Carles Martínez Novell is to take his place, German news reports said on Thursday.
The Bild paper, Kicker sports magazine and Sky TV said that Leverkusen have reached an agreement with Spaniard Novell who was last in charge at French Ligue 1 club Toulouse.
He is said to receive a contract until 2028. There has been no official confirmation so far.
Hjulmand's exit has been expected for weeks. The Dane took over from Erik ten Hag early in the season but the team finished only sixth and missed a place in the Champions league.
Novell would be the next Spanish coach at the club. Xabi Alonso was in charge 2022-2025, leading them to the 2024 German league and Cup double with a first unbeaten Bundesliga season in league history.
