For around 15 hours, immigration detention officers kept Raúl Suárez Herrero confined in a cage slightly larger than a phone booth, where he feared snakes and endured mosquitoes in the middle of Florida swampland, the former detainee alleged.
Suárez, 59, told José Díaz-Balart in an interview for Noticias Telemundo’s “Ahora 360” that he was forced into the cage, measuring 7 feet, 9 inches high and 4 feet, 3 inches square, for praying out loud for an ill young man at “Alligator Alcatraz,” an ICE detention site.
“I feel like I was in ****** ,” Suárez later told NBC News in a phone interview from Mexico, where he was deported.
Suárez spoke days after a Department of Homeland Security watchdog confirmed the use of the phone booth-sized cages at the now-shuttered Florida detention camp in a Sept. 11 report.
“The use of such restrictive ****** es is highly unconventional and does not align with standards for humane treatment,” the report said.

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford met his wife, Ally McBeal actress Calista Flockhart, in 2002.
The couple got engaged in 2009 and tied the knot over a year later. Ford, who is a dad to four children from his two previous marriages, also adopted Flockhart's son, Liam.
They've been supporting each other's careers over the years, with color-coordinated red carpet appearances and sweet shoutouts in acceptance speeches.
Back in 2002, Harrison Ford wasn't on Calista Flockhart's radar. "I remember loving him on Mosquito Coast, but I really didn't think about him," the actress said of Ford at the time. But that all changed after they met at the 59th Golden Globes with a meet-cute straight out of a '90s rom-com. Ford officially caught Flockhart's attention when he accidentally spilled wine on her dress mid-conversation. The comical moment apparently sealed the deal for Flockhart, and the two began dating from that point on.
"I'm in love. Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love, and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life," Ford said in a 2003 interview, a year after meeting Flockhart. "I was not surprised that I was able to fall in love, and I wasn't surprised that I did."

Two workers at Germany's Frankfurt airport who caught malaria from a mosquito thought to have arrived on a plane have died, the city's health authority said this week.
Airport officials had earlier said one employee had perished, with six workers infected.
The Robert Koch Institute said an imported Anopheles mosquito carried over by an aircraft was the likely cause.
The other four infected employees were hospitalized and receiving treatment, said an airport spokesman.
Traps have been installed at the airport and mosquitoes captured will be ******* yzed in a laboratory to determine their species and origin, BBC News reported.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — Miyu Yamashita opened a five-stroke lead Friday in the CPKC Women's Open as players again fought mosquitos on the tree-lined course tucked in a bend in the North Saskatchewan River.
A stroke ahead Thursday after an opening 8-under 62, the 4-foot-11 Yamashita shot 64 in the afternoon to get to 14 under at Royal Mayfair.
"I'm really happy," Yamashita said through a translator. "With two rounds to go, I just want to focus on my game and keep playing like this."
The 25-year-old ***** anese player won the Meijer LPGA Classic in June after taking the Women's British Open and Maybank Championship last year.
"Rather than focus on the score, I'm thinking about how I can make birdies," the 2025 LPGA rookie of the year said.

UFC Freedom 250, staged on Sunday night on the South Lawn of the White House, was mostly an impressive show. The main event, which pitted the second-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Ilia Topuria—the German-born lightweight champion who represents Georgia—against American underdog Justin Gaethje, lived up to its billing. Military personnel on hand chanted “USA! USA! USA!” Gaethje, 37, bloodied Topuria’s face and delivered a wicked knee to his ribs. Meanwhile Topuria, 29, continued to connect on his punches. But after the fourth of five rounds, Topuria’s corner stopped the fight, producing a storybook ending to an event that has roused widespread discussion about the appropriateness of using White House grounds for bloodsport.
The American, in the last stage of his career, prevailed against a younger fighter, in his prime, at the White House, in a celebration of the country’s 250th anniversary. “Hey, I’m from America,” said Gaethje afterwards, a ****** le belt draped over his shoulder. “250 years ago, we were way bigger than 6-to-1 [under]dogs.” UFC commentator Joe Rogan, the popular podcaster who has been calling bouts since 2002, called Gaethje’s victory “one of the great upsets” and “one of the greatest fights” in the history of the sport.
The main event wasn’t the only highlight. President Donald Trump, a longtime fight fan and friend of UFC president and CEO Dana White, sat cageside the day the U.S. and Iran reached an agreement, to be signed on Friday, to end the war that started Feb. 28. Trump saw exciting action in each fight that night. All seven, in fact, ended in a knockout or technical knockout, the first time all fights on a main card ended in knockouts in the nearly 33-year history of the UFC.
On a day that the Weather Channel forecast “rain, 30 mph winds and mosquitos on the White House lawn,” the weather broke the UFC’s way. After a 30-minute delay, the card went forward uninterrupted. The United States Marine Band played catchy live tunes, putting its spin on ditties like “The Boys Are Back In Town” and “YMCA.” Military heroes and first responders from all over the country accompanied fighters to the Octagon.
The White House backdrop, fighters walking out of the Oval Office and down the West Wing for their introductions, the shots of the Washington monument, the massive crowd watching the fight together on the Ellipse, the fireworks: it all made for a compelling sports production.

Forecasters with The Weather Channel warned of rain, wind, and mosquitoes on the South Lawn of the White House Sunday as crowds planned to pack the makeshift arena for President Donald Trump’s birthday UFC fights.
More than 4,000 spectators were expected for UFC Freedom 250, with an additional 85,000-plus people expected for the viewing party at the nearby Ellipse.
But The Weather Channel painted a “chaotic” weather scene for the fights that are scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. E.T.
“UFC Freedom 250 is facing a chaotic weather setup on the White House South Lawn, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and wind gusts up to 34 mph threatening to delay the outdoor fights,” The Weather Channel posted to X.

Here in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s mosquito fleet renders Trump blockade futile

You can hear them before you see them, a distant sputter of engines carrying across the seemingly empty waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
Then, out of the haze, they appear. Speedboats – dozens at first, then hundreds – bouncing over the swell, each carrying no more than two or three men, their faces wrapped in scarves against the spray.
For the next two hours, they stream past at a relentless pace, churning across the narrowest stretch of the strait where our boat bobs on the waves.
