There was a lot to like about Hibernian's performance last week in North Macedonia.
Playing on a difficult surface in a hot and stifling atmosphere, they rarely looked in trouble and, when Shkendija did press late on, the defence stood strong.
The tie could easily have gone the other way, but the discipline and spirit shown by everyone on the pitch were a joy to behold.
Scottish clubs have often struggled after returning from a demanding European trip, but Hibs got the job done against Partick Thistle to maintain their pursuit of League Cup silverware.
Now it is on to another European encounter, where Gent await in Belgium.

Shkendija will aim to make a fast start in intense heat on Thursday, says head coach Artim Pollozhani, as the North Macedonian side look to wipe out Hibernian's first-leg advantage.
David Gray's men take a narrow 2-1 Conference League qualifying lead with them to Skopje and travel buoyed by a late victory at Rangers on Sunday.
"Hibs start the game with an advantage so we want to score early," says the Shkendija boss. "One goal and we will equalise and then try to close the game in 90 minutes.
"The psychological part will be very important. We want to be in the next round, we want to repeat the success of last season in Europe."
Shkendija qualified for the Conference League last term and made it through the league phase before being dumped out by Turkish side Samsunspor in the first knockout round.

The United States Men’s National Team continues to advance at the 2026 World Cup, having taken down Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 by a 2-0 margin. The tournament field continues to narrow, and the opponents grow more daunting, with Belgium hoping to spoil the co-hosts’ party and advance to the quarterfinal. The European program is looking to improve on a third-place finish in 2018, which would be quite the welcome surprise well after a golden generation. Seattle, Washington’s Lumen Field – a 72,000-seat multi-purpose stadium with a temporary stitched natural grass surface – hosts the fixture.
This is the eighth all-time meeting between the two nations, with the USMNT carrying a 1-6-0 record and falling in the most recent match, a friendly defeat (2-5) in March. Ranked 10th internationally by FIFA, Belgium reached the World Cup by finishing atop UEFA’s Group J of qualifying with a 5-0-3 record, besting Wales, North Macedonia, Kazakhstan, and Liechtenstein. At the current competition, the Red Devils claimed Group G with draws against Egypt (1-1) and Iran (0-0) and a victory over New Zealand (5-1) before requiring extra time and a fortuitous penalty to top Senegal (3-2) in the Round of 32.
Rudi Garcia was appointed to lead the program in January 2025, his first international gig after leading a variety of club sides including Lille, Roma, Marseille, Lyon, Al Nassr, and Napoli. The 62-year-old Frenchman believes that his squad is “very driven” and “aiming high” with the capacity to “achieve great things.” He has praised the “oldies” in his group, defending them against treatment as “has-beens.”
Garcia named a 26-player roster for the World Cup. The Belgian Pro League is home to three of the call-ups, while seven talents are on the books of Premier League clubs, five compete in Ligue 1, and five can be found in Serie A. Notable absences include Michy Batshuayi, Loïs Openda, Matz Sels, and Malick Fofana.

Amanda Anisimova's bid to banish memories of the worst Wimbledon final defeat in more than a century began with a comfortable straight-sets victory.
The American's maiden grand slam final quickly turned from a dream into a nightmare last year when she was thrashed 6-0, 6-0 by Iga Swiatek inside an hour.
Having become only the third woman ever to lose a major final without winning a game, and the first at Wimbledon since 1911, her return to SW19 started with a 6-3, 6-2 success over North Macedonian qualifier Lina Gjorcheska.
The sixth seed, 24, will face compatriot Sofia Kenin in the second round after she defeated Croatian Petra Marcinko 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Clara Tauson's quest to emulate last year's career-best run was ended by a 6-3, 6-3 loss to two-time grand slam semi-finalist Maria Sakkari.

Michael Saylor's Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) has been the inspiration behind many companies picking up a crypto treasury model.
One such firm was Brera Holdings. Founded in 2022, it began as an owner of small football clubs across Italy, North Macedonia, Mozambique, and Mongolia.
After its public debut in 2023, it joined the hundreds of firms racing to stockpile crypto tokens in imitation of Michael Saylor's Strategy, which surged after pivoting to bitcoin accumulation in 2020.
Abu Dhabi-based Pulsar Group in September 2025 sponsored a $300 million private placement to convert Nasdaq-listed Brera Holdings into a solana treasury, with backing from Cathie Wood's ARK Invest, the Solana Foundation and crypto venture firm RockawayX. It was rebranded as Solmate (SLMT).
Then, in October 2025, Ark took 11.5% stake in the company.
