LYNDHURST — A year of maturity made a difference Saturday evening for the Lakeside Dragons. Playing freshmen and sophomores last year led to some growth in a 14-7 victory over Lutheran East.
The Dragons defense held Lutheran East to just seven points by staying on their ****** ignments and not freelancing, said Lakeside football coach Terry Henton.
"We talked all summer about putting in the work," Henton said of the team earning a chance to play winning football.
He said as long as they play as a team they have a chance.
"Everybody [on defense] is on a chain," Henton said. "You can't go any where alone."

The Georgia Bulldogs are predicted to close the deal on one of their top remaining recruiting targets in the class of 2027. Georgia is projected to land a commitment from four-star safety recruit Seth Williams, per Benjamin Wolk of 247Sports.
Georgia is predicted to beat out the Clemson Tigers for the elite safety prospect. Georgia and Clemson are Williams' final two schools. Both programs will find out soon enough with Williams announcing his commitment on Friday, July 31.
Williams plays high school football for Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia. The Peach State star is the No. 19 safety prospect in the country and the No. 19 recruit in Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is the No. 409 recruit in the country, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart would love to keep Williams home. Georgia has only one defensive back commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, so the Dawgs are looking to add more. Georgia has 19 total commitments in the 2027 cycle including one from four-star safety Adryan Cole. Georgia has America's No. 12 recruiting class.
Clemson is not quite as desperate for defensive back commitments as Georgia. The Tigers have five commitments in the secondary. Clemson has made Williams a priority. Clemson has invested a lot of time and resources into recruiting Williams, but it appears that may not be enough. Clemson and coach Dabo Swinney have the No. 13 recruiting class in the country. The Tigers have 25 commitments.

Caitlin Clark will have more than one opportunity to connect with basketball fans during the 2026 WNBA All-Star weekend in Chicago. The Indiana Fever star was selected for her third consecutive WNBA All-Star Game after another outstanding start to the season. Clark entered the break averaging 20.7 points, 7.8 ***** ists and 3.9 rebounds per game, placing her sixth in the league in scoring and second in ***** ists.
Although Clark reportedly declined an invitation to participate in the WNBA 3-Point Contest, she will not be staying out of the spotlight until the All-Star Game. The Georgia Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers are competing to land a commitment from four-star safety recruit Seth Williams. Williams, who is a member of the class of 2027, was originally set to announce his commitment on July 3. However, Williams changed his mind and still has not announced his commitment.
Williams plans to make a decision prior to the start of his senior season. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety begins his senior season with Lakeside High School (Atlanta, Georgia) on August 21. The four-star decommitted from Clemson in April 2026. He only took official visits to Georgia and Clemson this summer as he approached his original commitment.
Georgia and Clemson have both been recruiting Williams hard. Now, all that is left is for Williams to make a decision.
"It is not really days going back-and-forth anymore," Williams said in an interview with DawgNation. "One week it might be Georgia. The next week it might be Clemson. But really for me it is more so about not keeping it personal, but knowing what I am going to do before I will go tell somebody that I am going to Clemson or Georgia."
Williams is a player worth fighting over. He is the No. 25 safety prospect in the country and the No. 22 recruit in Georgia.

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — Aki Iwai shot an 8-under 63 for a two-stroke lead on Thursday in the first round of the Evian Championship, the fourth women's golf major of the season, as top-ranked Nelly Korda struggled.
The 24th-ranked Iwai had eight birdies and no dropped shots in the sun-splashed lakeside town that three weeks ago hosted the G7 summit of world leaders.
Japan's Iwai made birdies at three of the last four holes, including the par-5 18th, and led by two shots from Perrine Delacour, whose 6-under 65 included an eagle at the par-5 15th and a pair of bogeys toward the end of her round.
A group of five players with 5-under 66s included the winner of the Women's PGA Championship two weeks ago, Haeran Ryu, and world No. 5 Charley Hull, who started the week as a guest in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.
Hull had two early bogeys before making the turn at level par, then came home in just 31 shots capped by an eagle at the par-5 18th. Also on 5 under were Mao Saigo, Maja Stark and Jin Hee Im.
