NRG Energy gained 6.4% and Constellation Energy rose 4.9% on September 4 while the S&P 500 fell 0.4%. The gains were consistent with the broader AI-power trade where data-center projects increasingly depend on generators that can add reliable capacity, navigate interconnection queues, and sign contracts before construction. NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) and Constellation Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:CEG) offer different versions of that opportunity.
NRG is advancing a Bring Your Own Power strategy with a hyperscaler for a 1.2-gigawatt combined-cycle gas project in Texas. It also brought a 415-megawatt facility into commercial operation and reported $1.03 billion of second-quarter free cash flow before growth investments. The bull case is speed: pairing contracted data-center load with dispatchable generation can bypass part of the grid bottleneck. The bear case is project execution, fuel exposure, financing, and the possibility that forecast load never materializes.
Insider Monkey counted 59 hedge funds holding NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) at June 30, down from 76 at March 31. Israel Englander's Millennium Management nevertheless disclosed 4,257,712 shares, 115% more than in Q1. The contrast between a falling fund count and one manager's larger position argues against treating institutional sentiment as uniform.
Constellation brings the largest U.S. nuclear fleet plus gas **** ets acquired with Calpine. It raised full-year adjusted operating EPS guidance to $11.50 to $12.50 and said it had signed another 920 megawatts of long-term power agreements. The bull case is scarce around-the-clock clean generation. The bear case includes plant outages, regulatory intervention, integration risk, and the danger of overpaying to expand capacity during a demand boom.
Seventy-three hedge funds held Constellation Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:CEG) in Q2, down from 79 in Q1. Philippe Laffont's Coatue Management disclosed 4,632,475 shares at quarter-end; the available profile did not show a usable sequential activity figure, so no motive or timing is inferred.

Retail investors flocked to ****** e Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX), better known as ****** eX, after its initial public offering (IPO) in June. However, some institutional investors also bought the artificial intelligence and ****** e stock. Billionaire Israel "Izzy" Englander was one of them.
Englander's Millennium Management loaded up on ****** eX in the second quarter of 2026. Notably, the hedge fund purchased over 17.6 million shares before ****** eX's first lockup expiration on Aug. 6. Many viewed this lockup expiration as a reason to avoid the stock, at least temporarily. Does Englander know something that most investors don't?
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
We don't know exactly when Englander bought shares of ****** eX. However, I'd wager that he began buying days after the ****** e technology company's record-setting IPO when its stock plunged more than 20%.
Initiating a stake in ****** eX in late June might seem like a questionable decision, given the downward pressure on the stock that many expected when insiders began selling their shares. In retrospect, Englander's decision to buy ****** eX could appear to be a poor one, with shares down a double-digit percentage since the end of Q2.

Cyprian Keyes GC owner-general manager David Frem was voted vice president of the National Golf Course Owners **** ociation in January and he will become president in January of 2028.
"It's exciting," Frem said. "Honestly, it's a little nerve-wracking. I mean there are 4,000 members. I've gotten so much out of the organization. I'm excited to be part of it and hopefully help grow the golf business.
Frem has already served as president of the New England Golf Course Owners **** ociation.
Walter Lankau, former owner of Stow Acres CC, was the only other New Englander to serve as president of the NCGOA, which is based in Charleston, S.C.
"It's kind of cool to do something that Walt did 20 years ago because he's always been someone I've looked up to," he said.

With France and Morocco set to square off in a highly anticipated World Cup quarterfinal at Foxborough's Boston Stadium, former U.S. Men's National Team standout and New England Revolution broadcaster Charlie Davies says the tournament has exceeded expectations both on and off the field.
Davies joined Boston 25 Thursday morning to discuss the 2026 World Cup's impact on New England, Team USA's future, and the star power that continues to captivate soccer fans around the globe.
"This World Cup has been sensational," Davies said. "People came to this country with a certain perception, and they've been blown away by how welcoming New Englanders have been."
The New Hampshire native said one of the biggest surprises has been how strongly soccer has resonated in a region long dominated by traditional sports powers like the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.
"Finally, the sport has cut through here, and people have given it a chance," Davies said. "I'm in heaven."

We just covered From Fired Researcher to $13.7 Billion King: How Leopold Aschenbrenner Broke the Hedge Fund World and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) ranks 5th on this list.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is a new addition to the 13F portfolio of Situational Awareness LP. The fund declared a new stake in the company in filings for the first quarter of 2026. This stake consists of PUT bets worth close to 5 million shares. In the hedge fund world, Leopold Aschenbrenner is not alone in betting against AMD. Other elite money managers like Ken Griffin, Israel Englander, Sander Gerber, and Dmitry Balyasny have also declared bearish bets against the chip company. Of the $10.3 billion in Q1 2026 revenue for AMD, the data center segment accounted for $5.8 billion. However, NVIDIA continues to capture an estimated 90% to 95% market share of high-end AI data center GPUs.

Elite money managers have argued that Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) is fighting an uphill battle against an entrenched ecosystem. The true moat for NVIDIA is not just the hardware, but the proprietary CUDA software ecosystem, which has millions of software developers locked in. Enterprise clients are proving hesitant to rewrite their entire software stacks to migrate to the open-source ROCm platform offered by AMD. Short-sellers calculate that AMD is being valued as an equal AI peer to NVIDIA, when it is actually collecting the residual overflow demand from hyperscalers who cannot secure enough NVIDIA allocation.
While we acknowledge the potential of AMD as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. We just covered From Fired Researcher to $13.7 Billion King: How Leopold Aschenbrenner Broke the Hedge Fund World and Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) ranks 3rd on this list.
Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) is a new addition to the 13F portfolio of Situational Awareness LP. The fund declared a new stake in the company in filings for the first quarter of 2026. This stake consists of PUT bets worth close to 7 million shares. The firm offers products and services that address enterprise information technology environments worldwide. Cloud services account for the largest share in the revenue mix for the company. In recent months, Oracle has started building data centers within AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. It is also partnering with OpenAI on a $300 billion Stargate AI project. The contract backlog of the company has reached close to half a trillion dollars.

Apart from Leopold Aschenbrenner, other prominent fund managers with bearish bets on Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL) include Ken Griffin, Israel Englander, D.E. Shaw, Chris Rokos, and Sander Gerber, among others. The bear case for the stock revolves around converting the massive contract backlog into recognized revenue. This would require building physical data centers, like the proposed Stargate AI cluster, that do not yet exist. Bearish money managers are betting that the market has prematurely priced in this $553 billion backlog as immediate earnings, completely ignoring the intense execution risk, supply-chain delays for cooling turbines, and power-grid connectivity bottlenecks that could push actual revenue recognition.
While we acknowledge the potential of ORCL as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

We just covered From Fired Researcher to $13.7 Billion King: How Leopold Aschenbrenner Broke the Hedge Fund World and Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) ranks 4th on this list.
Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) is a new addition to the 13F portfolio of Situational Awareness LP. The fund declared a new stake in the company in filings for the first quarter of 2026. This stake consists of PUT bets worth close to 3 million shares. Previously, Leopold Aschenbrenner had bought a stake in this chip giant in the third quarter of 2025. This position consisted of PUT bets worth 230,000 shares and was sold off completely by the next quarter. In addition to Leopold Aschenbrenner, other elite money managers with bearish bets on Broadcom include Ken Griffin, Israel Englander, Sander Gerber, Matthew Hulsizer, and D.E. Shaw. The bet against Broadcom aligns with a broader bet against semis that is a central theme of the latest 13F filings by Leopold Aschenbrenner.
Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ:AVGO) does not sell general-purpose GPUs like NVIDIA. The AI growth of the firm is driven by designing custom AI accelerators and high-speed Ethernet networking for cloud giants. This business relies heavily on a concentrated base of six major hyperscaler customers, including Alphabet, Meta, and OpenAI, for AI revenues. Even though the AI-specific backlog sits at $73 billion, pushing AI-related revenue up to 44% of the total sales mix, short-sellers have pointed out that cloud customers are using Broadcom as a stepping stone while they build out internal engineering teams to design their own proprietary custom silicon.
While we acknowledge the potential of AVGO as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.

We just covered From Fired Researcher to $13.7 Billion King: How Leopold Aschenbrenner Broke the Hedge Fund World and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) ranks 2nd on this list.
NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a new addition to the 13F portfolio of Situational Awareness LP. The fund declared a new stake in the company in filings for the first quarter of 2026. This stake consists of PUT bets worth close to 9 million shares. Previously, Leopold Aschenbrenner had bought a stake in this chip giant in the third quarter of 2025. This position consisted of PUT bets worth 1.6 million shares and was sold off completely by the next quarter. Back then, this bearish bet represented over 7% of the 13F portfolio of the fund. The latest one is the second-largest position and represents over 11% of the portfolio. Leopold Aschenbrenner is not the only hedge fund manager betting against the chip giant.
Prominent names like Michael Burry, Ken Griffin, Israel Englander, and Sander Gerber also hold PUT options on NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), per latest filings. There is concern among some in the hedge fund universe that as AI shifts from training models to running autonomous agents, the required hardware changes. Complex sequential logic execution favors high-performance CPUs. While NVIDIA commands an estimated 90% to 95% market share in AI training GPUs, it has virtually no market share in the traditional x86 enterprise data center CPU market, which is dominated by AMD and Intel. Bearish investors are betting that NVIDIA GPU demand will face a structural ceiling as compute requirements diversify.
While we acknowledge the potential of NVDA as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. If you're looking for an extremely undervalued AI stock that also stands to benefit significantly from Trump-era tariffs and the onshoring trend, see our free report on the best short-term AI stock.
