I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty addicted to collecting passive dividend income. While I love working, nothing beats getting paid for work someone else did. With a yield of more than 10%, few passive-income investments pay as well as Ares Capital (NASDAQ: ARCC) -- it's almost 10 times higher than the S&P 500's current yield of 1.1%.
That monster yield is why I just bought even more shares of this business development company (BDC).
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
A dividend yield of 10% or more is usually a major red flag. However, that's not the case with Ares Capital. For starters, it's a BDC, which must distribute at least 90% of its taxable net income to shareholders in dividends to remain in compliance with IRS regulations. Given that payout requirement, it's going to have a high yield.
Further, where Ares Capital shines is in its ability to sustain and grow its dividend. It has maintained or raised its payout for 17 consecutive years. That's impressive for a BDC, as most of its peers have had at least one dividend reduction during that time frame. This durability is a testament to the company's strong underwriting, as its ******* ulative investments of more than $73 billion have a net realized loss of less than 0% since inception. That's a far better loss ratio than other BDCs (-1.1%) and even banks (-0.6%). By minimizing losses, Ares Capital has a long history of generating earnings that more than covered its dividend.

Our **** ysts just identified a stock with the potential to be the next Nvidia. Tell us how you invest and we'll show you why it's our #1 pick. Tap here.
Here's a rather, um, fun diary entry from the annals of our AI-addled market: South Korea memory chip maker SK Hynix posted a 557% increase in operating profit for its most recent quarter on Wednesday. But rather than sending the once-hot stock to the moon, the print led to a mass sell-off that dragged South Korea's Kospi down with it.
SK Hynix said revenue rose to about $55 billion, up 257% from the same quarter a year prior. Net profits skyrocketed about 1,242%. Still, those eye-popping numbers weren't enough for investors addicted to four-digit growth in the chip sector.
South Korea-listed SK Hynix shares fell about 10% on Wednesday, and are down nearly 50% over the last month. The company's U.S.-listed ADRs, which first started trading on the Nasdaq on July 10, are down about 22%. When the East Coast wakes up, it's set to be a rout.
In other words, SK Hynix grew like that and still missed **** yst expectations. **** ysts penciled in about $44 billion in operating profit. SK Hynix delivered $41.6 billion — real money, just not enough to satisfy a market pricing in miracles.

The game against York was a perfect start to the 2026/2027 season. Class weather, a regiment of the red and white army and a strong display on the pitch. As one of the many that travelled, it turned out to be a great day and really got me looking forward to the games to come.
Despite being on the wrong end of the result during our clash with Liverpool, there were still lots of positives to take and it didn't dampen my mood.
In fairness, that was mainly due to the magnificence of Enzo Le Fée. Is it possible to be addicted to watching a footballer play? If so, I think I am. How on earth did we have him in the Championship?
Seeing the Lads in action just brings me so much joy — as I am sure it does to us all, and I simply can't wait for the start of the season and especially the first home game against Fulham. Hopefully some more bright sunshine, seeing some new signings in action and the Stadium of Light in full voice.
After knee surgery in April, I missed out on attending the last few games of the 2025/2026 season.

Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian warned the SEC about second-year starting quarterback Arch Manning on Thursday, July 23.
"I think right now he's a very dangerous player," Sarkisian said at SEC Media Days. "Because he learned a lot from last season."

Manning, who entered last season with extremely lofty expectations thanks to being the latest quarterback from the prestigious Manning family, had a rollercoaster season with the Longhorns, struggling early before hitting his stride in Texas' final eight games.
The former five-star recruit and No. 1 overall player nationally out of high school finished the year with 3,163 passing yards and 26 touchdowns to seven interceptions, along with 399 rushing yards and 10 scores. Nineteen of his 36 total touchdowns came in Texas' final six games.

Monday night’s USMNT catastrophe against Belgium completely erased and potentially overshadowed everything Mauricio Pochettino’s plucky side was able to accomplish at this World Cup. There’s no need to be hyperbolic and say it was all for naught because collecting the second-ever knockout stage victory in the program’s history is nothing to scoff at. It must be said, though, that the elements will rarely, if ever, be lined up in such an advantageous manner for Team USA to make that long-awaited run deeper into the tournament.
This team’s impact on how soccer is viewed in America won’t be known for a long time. And there are reasons to be optimistic that a solid foundation was built for future success. It’s just really, really tough to think of anything except how Christian Pulisic & Co. got bodied out there in Seattle.
Some good news—at least in terms of visibility—can be gleaned from master tastemaker Colin Cowherd devoting a solid chunk of time to the USMNT’s failure on his show today. The bad news is that he’s not exactly saying great things.
“When pressure was applied last night we folded like wet cardboard,” Cowherd surmised. “Pulisic looked pedestrian. Last night against Belgium’s top players he was just a guy.”
Actually, it was worst than just a guy. It was a guy addicted to giving the ball away. Now, some of that can be attributed to his health and it’s not right to be too hard on a player physically unable to perform. Cowherd, taking the correct stance that the best ability is availability, pointed out this has been a problem with the USMNT’s top star.

With quarterback Brendan Sorsby intending to apply for the NFL's supplemental draft, some are watching and waiting to see whether the NFL will welcome him to the ranks of professional football.
Two key questions have arisen, from the NFL's perspective. First, will the league accept Sorsby into the supplemental draft? Second, will Commissioner Roger Goodell impose a suspension on Sorsby for underage (and thus illegal) gambling and/or for betting on Indiana games while he was on the Indiana roster (but not playing)?
The Terrelle Pryor precedent has caused some in league circles to believe the league will try to simulate the NCAA's punishment — basically, no football at all in 2026. In 2011, the league placed a five-game suspension on former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, mirroring the suspension that was imposed on Pryor by the NCAA.
Then there's the case of Kayshon Boutte. Earlier this year, he wrote an article for the Players' Tribune regarding his gambling addiction while in college.
"I'd wake up early in the morning, and the first thing I'd do was bet," Boutte wrote. "I'd stay up late and bet. All day. All night. I had insomnia, so if I woke up in the middle of the night, phone next to the bed, I'd bet. Any little money I had, it was going straight to FanDuel. . . . I knew I was addicted."

Landmark trial begins over claims Meta and YouTube intentionally addicted kids

The world's largest social media companies have been accused of creating "addiction machines" as a landmark trial began in California examining the mental health effects of Instagram and YouTube.
In his opening argument before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Carolyn B. Kuhl and a jury, Mark Lanier argued that his client, plaintiff "K.G.M.," suffered from mental health issues as a result of her social media addiction.
"These companies built machines designed to addict the brains of children, and they did it on

Megan Feller smoked pot several times a day and couldn’t eat, sleep or function without it. But at the time, she didn't see the need to reach out for help.
“I didn’t think cannabis was a big deal,” the 24-year-old said. “It was really socially accepted.”
This attitude is common. As more states legalize marijuana, use has become more normalized and products have become more potent. But fewer of those who are addicted seek help for it.
Pot use among young adults reached historic levels in recent years, according to a federally supported survey. Daily use even outpaced daily drinking, with nea
