49ers coach says rivals blockbuster trade felt like a gut punch

The Los Angeles Rams shocked the NFL world on Monday when they acquired two-time Defensive Player of the Year and seven-time All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett in a trade from the Cleveland Browns that sent three picks and Jared Verse back to the AFC North.
San Francisco 49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster was among those stunned by the news, and he explained later on Tuesday why he's not happy about the deal.
"I said to Kyle (Shanahan), it's kind of a little gut punch, at first," Foerster said. "You feel like, 'Oh gosh.' Then you know, I woke up really early this morning, earlier than usual. I came in and just walked tape. I mean, he's an outstanding football player, and he's going to be a challenge for us to take care of. We had to play him last year. You got to do the best you can. Everybody has good players, and he's a great player. It's good for them, helps them. It will be a good challenge for us."
Foerster went on to confirm that the trade forced him to watch Garrett tape the next day.
"I sure did," Foerster said. "I just wanted to remind myself because it feels like it kind of came out of left field... You're sitting there saying, 'Oh, wow. What about this?' Then you remember him, but now we have in division. We'll play all of the time. He made a couple plays, and then you're like, 'Let me go back and look at the tape and see what it really was.'

How Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs defended Tennessee fans on Barstool Sports show

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs came to the defense of Tennessee fans on a popular Barstool Sports show, disagreeing with the notion that Vols fans are unpleasant to deal with.
A WWE hall-of-famer known by his ring name Kane, most of Jacobs' conversation with "Mostly Sports" hosts Brandon Walker and Mark **** us focused on his wrestling career. But when Walker turned the conversation to his opinion of Tennessee fans, calling them “overtly obnoxious," Jacobs disagreed.
“No we’re not,” Jacobs said. “We’re very nice. Have you ever been to Alabama or Gainesville?”
Walker called back on his experience at Tennessee’s home football game against Ole Miss in 2021, when Lane Kiffin returned to Neyland Stadium as the Rebels’ coach after spurning Tennessee for Southern Cal in 2010 after just one with the Vols. Kiffin was infamously pelted in the leg by a yellow golf ball.
“And these are the fans you’re telling me aren’t obnoxious. The ones that were throwing golf **** ,” Walker said.

Real Madrid targeting another Liverpool star for this summer after Konate deal

Liverpool could find themselves fending off renewed interest from Real Madrid this summer, with reports in Spain suggesting Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as a leading target for the Spanish giants.
Mac Allister has been one of Liverpool’s most influential figures since arriving at Anfield, yet the past season proved far more challenging than the ******* le-winning campaign that preceded it. As Liverpool slipped away from the standards they set during their Premier League triumph, the Argentine midfielder endured a more difficult year alongside many of his team-mates.
According to Spanish news outlet El Desmarque, Real Madrid are preparing for a significant summer of recruitment and have identified Mac Allister as a player capable of strengthening their midfield. The report claims the midfielder is firmly on the club’s radar ahead of the transfer window.
For Liverpool supporters, it is another reminder of the stature Mac Allister has built since joining the club. His technical quality, intelligence in possession and ability to dictate the tempo of matches have made him one of the most respected midfielders in Europe.

‘It was a question of trust’ – Yildiz explains the decision that brought him to Juventus

Kenan Yildiz has opened up on the defining decision of his young career, choosing Juventus over Bayern Munich in 2022, revealing that it was the club’s genuine belief in his potential that ultimately proved the decisive factor.
Speaking to GQ, via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Turkey international and Serie A Rising Star award winner was candid about what drew him to Turin at a time when remaining at one of Europe’s most successful clubs might have seemed the safer option.
“When I chose Juventus it was not only a professional decision,” Yildiz said.
“It was also a question of trust. I felt that this team would give me a strong vision. The club really saw me, believed in my potential and offered me a path to grow step by step. For a young footballer, one of the most important things is that people believe in you not only when you play well, but throughout your entire journey of growth. Juventus gave me that feeling from the first day.”

Tigers ride home-run barrage to beat Rays in opener

St. Petersburg, Fla. – These games just keep getting harder and harder to fathom.
The Tigers slugged five home runs Monday night. They scored more runs than they had since April 16. They had leads of 6-0, 8-2 and 10-5.
And they had to hold on for dear life. Will Vest, after some heroic work to get out of the eighth inning with a lead, closed out the ninth inning and the Tigers beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 10-9, in the first of three games at Tropicana Field.
The win snapped a four-game losing.
The Tigers, almost literally, walked the Rays back into the game. Three of the eight walks issued came in a bizarre eighth inning and all three scored.

Report: £56m Chelsea star ready to leave with multiple clubs interested

Marc Cucurella’s Chelsea future has entered a significant period of uncertainty, with The Athletic reporting that multiple clubs have made contact with people working on behalf of the Spain international regarding a potential summer move.
The situation is delicate rather than advanced, but the direction is clear. Cucurella, who signed a new Chelsea contract last summer, is understood to be open to leaving Stamford Bridge after a disappointing campaign in which the club finished 10th in the Premier League.
According to The Athletic, sources briefed on the matter say Cucurella “is willing to leave Chelsea after a frustrating season”. Chelsea, for their part, are said to be relaxed because the defender has three years left on his deal. However, they “would not block his departure if an offer matched their valuation of the full-back.”
Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are all credited with interest, although each club’s situation appears different.
Barcelona sporting director Deco has reportedly been in contact with Cucurella’s camp, with both Deco and Hansi Flick considered admirers of the 27-year-old. Any move, however, appears dependent on a defensive departure at Camp Nou.

From Yeboahs shirt to scoring at 16

James Milner was just 16 and earning £70 a week as a YTS player when he broke into the first team at Leeds, six months after taking his GCSE exams.
On 10 November 2002, his dad Peter was in the away end at Upton Park when boss Terry Venables sent the youngster on for Jason Wilcox, now director of football at Manchester United, in the final minutes of a 4-3 win against West Ham.
It was a dream come true for Milner, who had grown up supporting the club and wore shirts with the names of Tony Yeboah and Tony Dorigo on the back.
Six weeks after the West Ham game, Milner - aged 16 years and 356 days - became the youngest Premier League goalscorer at that time when he scored in a 2-1 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
It was not enough to get the former Leeds season ticket-holder out of his post-match duties, however.

The 2025-26 NBA season was an eventful one for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won his second consecutive NBA MVP award and the Thunder made it all the way to the Western Conference finals before being bested by the San Antonio Spurs in seven games.
Ultimately though, the Thunder fell short of their goal of winning a championship, so Gilgeous-Alexander needed just one word to describe the season: Failure.
“It was a failure. I failed at my goal," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "I didn’t achieve what I wanted to achieve."

Pulisic finds form before World Cup as US beat Senegal 3-2

Christian Pulisic ended his goal drought and Folarin Balogun rifled in the winner as a much-improved United States beat Senegal 3-2 in a pre-World Cup friendly in Charlotte on Sunday.
The win -- and a slick first-half offensive performance powered by Pulisic and Ricardo Pepi, before multiple substitutions disrupted the game -- provided a welcome lift for coach Mauricio Pochettino's co-hosts.
The US had entered the clash with African powerhouse Senegal off the back of disappointing losses to Belgium and Portugal, and got the performance they needed to justify high expectations ahead of the World Cup in less than two weeks.
Sergino Dest opened the scoring, while Senegal's veteran ex-Liverpool forward Sadio Mane scored a brace in a disappointing loss for the Africa Cup of Nations finalists, which nonetheless exposed some enduring frailties in the US defense.
It was a dream start for the US, with a goal on six minutes that began with striker Pepi, making his first US start since 2024.

6 Chet Holmgren landing spots after Thunder stars Game 7 disappearance

The Oklahoma City Thunder weren't good enough. It came down to Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, but eventually the Thunder's bid to repeat as champions was ended by the San Antonio Spurs.
It's back to the drawing board.
With San Antonio destined to be an obstacle for a long time, OKC will undoubtedly look for ways to improve in the offseason to stack up better. And they have an embarrassment of **** ets to do so in short order, be it players or picks.
One such player is Chet Holmgren, the former No. 2 overall pick who completely disappeared in a four-point performance Saturday. At just 24 years old, he's still young enough to be an attractive trade chip and potential centerpiece of a deal for OKC to land another star to pair with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
These are the best landing spots for Holmgren in such a deal:

Cricket is a team game: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reveals fathers lesson on missed centuries

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been the undisputed breakout star of IPL 2026. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals sensation currently leads the Orange Cap race with 680 runs in 15 matches and has lit up the tournament with a series of record-shattering performances. Yet, despite his remarkable season, he has narrowly missed out on what many believe would have been well-deserved centuries.

Twice this season, Sooryavanshi found himself in the nineties, only to fall short because of his unwavering commitment to the team's cause. Rather than slowing down to secure personal milestones, the teenager continued to play his natural attacking game, putting the team's needs ahead of individual records.

Explaining his mindset on JioStar, Sooryavanshi revealed the lesson his father taught him from a young age.

"Since childhood, my father has always told me that if you score a hundred, a double hundred, or even a triple hundred, but the team does not win because of it, then those runs hold no value. They may only be for your personal record, but they do not benefit the team,'' Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said.
131385642
"Cricket, in the end, is a team game. So, if I score 80 instead of a hundred and my team wins, and if we still do not win despite me scoring a century, then that 80 means more to me than the hundred," he added.

"The longer my team stays in the tournament and the deeper we go into the playoffs and finals, the more chances I will get to score hundreds and achieve whatever records I want to break. So, it benefits both me personally and the team as well,'' Vaibhav concluded.

His selfless approach was on full display during the IPL 2026 Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting on a breathtaking 97 off just 28 **** , Sooryavanshi was only one boundary away from breaking Chris Gayle's record for the fastest century in IPL history. Instead of playing it safe and taking a single, he attempted an audacious upper-cut off Praful Hinge. Spotting a fielder late, he tried to adjust the shot but mistimed it, eventually getting caught at deep third man on the 29th ball.

Earlier in the season against Lucknow Super Giants, he produced another sensational innings, smashing 93 off just 38 deliveries. The left-hander tore apart the LSG attack with seven fours and ten towering sixes at a staggering strike rate of 244.73, guiding Rajasthan Royals to a dominant victory before falling short of a century once again.

What channel is Pirates vs. Twins on today? Time, TV schedule, live stream to watch MLB Friday baseball game

What channel is Pirates vs. Twins on today? Time, TV schedule, live stream to watch MLB Friday baseball game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Coming off four-game series against division opponents, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins will face off Friday night to open a weekend set.
The game marks the season debut for Pirates starter Jared Jones, who will make his first start since Sept. 27, 2024 after completing his rehab from elbow surgery. Still just 24 years old, the right-hander had a promising rookie season two years ago before sitting out all of 2025.
He rejoins a Pirates team that has been playing solid baseball but can't catch a break in the standings, as the NL Central remains the lone division in baseball with every team boasting a winning record.
The same cannot be said about the AL Central, where the Twins sit in the middle of the pack alongside the resurgent White Sox with everyone looking up at the Guardians. Minnesota has shaken off its April malaise with a strong May and will send arguably its most effective starter to the mound Friday in Taj Bradley, who is 5-1 with a 2.77 ERA and has allowed just 42 hits in 52 innings while striking out 59.

Ian Happ leads Cubs to dominant win over Pirates to snap 10-game losing skid

The Chicago Cubs’ losing skid is finally over.
The Cubs, after dropping 10 straight and 14 of their last 16, rolled to a dominant 10-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Wednesday night. It marked the team’s first win since May 15, and ended the team’s longest losing streak since 2022.
And, despite the brutal stretch of baseball, the Cubs still hold a 30-26 record and are in second in the NL Central standings. The Milwaukee Brewers still lead that division, which doesn’t have a team below .500.
After jumping out to a 3-0 lead early, the Cubs dropped six runs in the seventh inning alone to blow the game wide open. Ian Happ got things started with a three-run homer to right, which put the Cubs back in the lead again, and then Michael Conforto followed with a two-run shot of his own. Michael Busch hit an RBI single to wrap the inning and put the Cubs up by six, which was more than enough to give them the win.
Happ also had a two-run single in the first inning. He’s now reached base in 40 straight games in Pittsburgh.

Deebo Samuel prediction should lead to ex-49ers star ending up with NFC contender

Deebo Samuel prediction should lead to ex-49ers star ending up with NFC contender originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is in a much different part of his career than many would have expected him to be in just a few years ago. During certain parts of his time with the 49ers, Samuel was viewed as one of the better wide receivers in the NFL.
He was also used as a running back, showing he had the opportunity to impact the game in multiple ways on offense. While Samuel is still a decent player in some regards, he definitely isn't what he once was, and showed that with the Washington Commanders.
Now a free agent, despite him not being what he once was, there's still reason to believe that he can bring some value to a contending team, especially ones that don't have an elite wide receiver corps. That includes the Green Bay Packers, a team the former 49ers star was recently linked to.
“Samuel can be utilized in a number of roles lining up all over the field and offering value as a potential backfield option. This will bring out the best of LaFleur’s offensive creativity and give Love a much-needed weapon in the 2026 season,” Nick Halden wrote.

Report: Patriots-Eagles A.J. Brown Trade Is Almost A Done Deal

Report: Patriots-Eagles A.J. Brown Trade Is 'Almost A Done Deal' originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots have been linked to A.J. Brown all offseason, and while many experts expect him to be a Patriot, nothing is confirmed yet.
Over the course of the last week, insiders have started to report that the Eagles and Patriots do not have an agreement in place, and that the Eagles will entertain more offers for the star receiver. It is pretty much a guarantee that Brown will be traded post-June 1, but where is unclear. The Patriots seem to be the favorite, but there is seemingly more doubt now than before.
However, Jason McCourty reported on Tuesday that Brown joining the Patriots is "almost a done deal." This should be great news for Patriots fans patiently awaiting the arrival of Brown.
“All the people on the inside that they know continue to echo the same sentiment that it’s almost a done deal that he’s gonna be a New England Patriot,” McCourty said on "Up & Adams" on Tuesday.

Supreme Court wont intervene in discrimination suit led by Black ex-head coach Flores against NFL

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to intervene in a discrimination lawsuit led by former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores against the NFL, allowing the case to proceed toward trial.
The justices rebuffed an appeal from the league, which wanted the case handled through its arbitration process rather than open court in New York. Justice Brett Kavanaugh dissented from the decision not to hear the case.
Flores, who's Black, sued the league and three teams in February 2022, alleging the league was “rife with racism” regarding its hiring practices when it comes to Black coaches. He was later joined in the lawsuit by fellow Black coaches Steve Wilks and Ray Horton.
Flores, who was fired by the Dolphins shortly before the suit was filed, is now the Minnesota Vikings' defensive coordinator.
The NFL has argued Flores should go through arbitration rather than the legal system, but lower courts have sided with the plaintiffs. The league said it respected the Supreme Court decision, which allows lower-court rulings to stay in place, but is "fully prepared to defend ourselves as this matter proceeds.”

“While They Hatin On Us”: Deion Sanders Jr Takes Aim at Haters by Flaunting 5000 Acre Ranch

Deion Sanders and his family have been subject to public scrutiny on various occasions. Coach Prime has received backlash for his disappointing performance with the Colorado Buffaloes. His sons, Shedeur and Shilo, also received criticism after transitioning to the NFL. Shilo, despite signing as a UDFA with the Buccaneers, was waived last year following a pre-season altercation.
However, Coach Prime’s eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., who is also known as Bucky, clapped back at the haters and trolls with a post on social media.
